If Oprah can't do this her credibility will be shot forever.
2012's already in an European country (sort of, hah), so Madrid probably won't get it
and Tokyo won't get it when neither North or South America have hosted the Summer Olympics in more than 16 years, while Asia just hosted one
I'm not saying frequency is the main thing that determines whether or not a country or region gets to host the Olympics, but I dunno I like the idea that it stays varied

You are also forgetting Spain itself hosted in no 17 years ago.
Also Atlanta hosted it in 96 which was not 16 years ago.

Other major geographic regions which have not hosted the Olympic games include the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Oceania (unless Australia is considered part of Oceania).
I am totally just copying wiki but I thought that was interesting also.
man you have no idea how much Singapore wants to host the Olympics
but the reality of it is that the entire island would just sink underwater if they a) built all the facilities needed to host them and b) have the volume of spectator and athlete traffic that's typical of the Olympics

Also in 1906 there were the Summer Olympic games held in Athens but that is no longer considered an olympic event and is now known as the 1906 Intercalated Games.
I like the idea of it being in singapore and they can catch boats to all of the outlying islands to compete.
That would be neato.
yeah but I'm pretty sure the Bird's Nest itself is larger than most of those outlying islands
not to mention PIRATES

I don't know that Singapore is really ready to have an Olympics
having severe proscriptions against littering when you want to have a mindblowingly large sporting event is kind of heh

A magician gives you a ring that, when worn, will let you see the world as it truly is.
However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.

now I love golf, I enjoy playing it and have a lot of respect for it as a sport
but it's got no business being an Olympic event
I don't understand your reasoning here.
What makes something have a business being an olympic event?

something being a sport doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be an Olympic event
for one thing, competitive golf relies heavily on the design of a golf course... you can't "standardise" the event as easily as you could, say, a soccer match, because while you could argue that a soccer pitch might use different grass and is left to the mercy of the weather, a soccer pitch is always exactly the same conditions for all players on the field at the same time, and the measurements for the pitch don't change from venue to venue
for golf, the game changes mightily depending on course design and course layout, and to choose one specific golf course as the "end all be all ULTIMATE GOLF MATCH-UP" doesn't seem particularly fair
course maintenance and course type changes as well, and you could say that you can create an "Olympic standard" golf course, but in that respect you're going to have to first sort out what "Olympic standard" even means
plus, since golf goes on all day because it has so many participants, weather and lighting conditions will change for each individual player as well... across 18 different holes in which specific weather conditions may be more advantageous or disadvantageous depending on the circumstances and course design

2016 - 1006 = 20
20 > 16
and yeah that's true Spain had them in 92, so Madrid is definitely out
nope
so the only viable options are Chicago and Rio
the BRIC countries have been favourites to host the Olympics since 2000, that's how China got 'em
Also hello Vivienne how are you today?

HULLO!
upset at Gmail, obviously
but work has kept me pretty busy this morning
London will be the first city ever to host the games three times.
Satans..... hints.....
Rio's got boobs and the beach, but Chicago has uhh
hot dogs with celery salt
and also a beach that is very cold most of the year
E: That London thing was a question at our pub quiz last week! Too bad we forgot to write in the country name.

Like they'd get through the layers and layers of security.
How cool would THAT be.
Like to see how Micheal Phelps is getting chased by pirates and then raped and pillaged.
Satans..... hints.....
reduced gravity would make for fantastic events
yeah there is really no way Singapore can host
even if they solved the space problem, Singaporeans are some racist motherfuckers let me tell you
not to mention their English is incomprehensible
instead of Beach Volleyball you have MOONDUST VOLLEYBALL
the idea of Olympic Golf

I agree with you on the first point, but things like shooting, archery and so on sort of put the second part to bed
Previous account
it ain't olympian

shooting is, ehhh
I guess it's steeped in tradition?
Golf is more olympian than equestrian
Imagine what a fucking show that would have been.
They would have to catch him. Plus, if they did, they would all smoke a bowl and be friends.
Oh hay, just me spacehog ruining the top of the page!
America is the current champion of Rugby Union at the Olympics.

They should bring back Olympic fishing.
And yet we don't care at all!
