Swordcraft Story 2: 400% more bestiality

Swordcraft Story 2 is the second game in the GBA versions of the Summon Night series. Now the answer to the question that those of you who've gone through the first game will be asking is this: "Yes, there is more uncomfortable sexual innuendo here than you can shake a stick at."

Like the first game, you get your choice of main characters:

charagba_f01.jpg
Edgar...

charagba_f02.jpg
...or Aera (is that a bunny spear?), Craftknight apprentices in a small mountain village built atop a tomb of an unspeakably powerful and pissed off creature. Smart. Oh yeah, and you're charged with a Destiny and Special Powers yadda yadda. Here're some friends to help you out on your way.

charagba_f03.jpg
Exeld. Do not attempt to overclock him, his heatsink is broken. Absolutely 0% sense of humour.

charagba_f04.jpg
Loki. Demonic runt with a sword and poor attitude.

charagba_f06.jpg
Arno, androgynous 'child of the wind', whatever that means. I dont know why the crotch of that outfit is partially chewed out.

charagba_f05.jpg
...and Etna. DINAH. I mean Dinah.

Combat is... well it's a side-scrolling fight sequence.

With your Guardian Beast lending a hand.

And all your adventuring is done in your traditional JRPG SD top-down view, like so:

Weaponcrafting has been given a complete overhaul. Rather than just collecting ridiculous amounts of ingredients to craft weapons, you now have a base 'shapestone' to craft your weapon from, which gains strength as you continually reforge your weapon with stronger and more exotic materials and gain experience with the weapon through combat. Weapons can also be upgraded with additional materials and parts to give speacial attacks or status effects.

charagba_f12.jpg
Like in SS1, there's a 'dating' aspect to it where you go and visit friends at the end of each day. Spend some time with them and who know what will develop. :winky:

Any parting words, Blaire?

    So could your face.

Anyway, been meaning to check this out. Any major changes to the combat engine? As a long time veteran of the Tales series, it kind of bored me for the most part. High encounter rate and non-boss battles were pretty void of anything interesting going on made me sort of tune out about 2/3rds through the story (and yeah, I know there was more game after the main plot ended).

The combat is pretty much the same, with some balancing done. Knuckles dont make you completely invulnerable anymore, and axes arent intolerably slow. Special abilities are a nice addition (Arms Breaker just makes collecting all those special materials that much easier) and the sprites are slightly bigger, and more colourful. But if you didnt like the combat in the first game, then these changes arent likely to sway you.

Lesbians: Off the top of my head there's 4 female characters you can hit on/be hit on by, playing through as Aera. It is much less than the first game though, because you arent being sexually harassed by your own Guardian Beast all the time.

Seph: Nope, it's a standalone sequel set elsewhere in the same world.

Meh says I! I will continue to curse Namco for not localizing the TotW games then and hope for the actual Summon Night series (which is a set of SRPGs actually) to get localized. :fist shake:

I do like the combat in this one though, simply because the rewards are quite different and you could end up with usable weapon materials right away, rather than going 'Oh god, I need 1000 more water elements before I can make this spear!'. Your milage may vary.

Exceld is awesome, and once he gets to know you his sarcasm really starts to shine through. Loki's bent on being the strongest, and is unusually competetive, sometimes to the point of forgetting that he's supposed to help you, not insult you.

The thing with all the Beasts this time around is that none of them really like you to start off with (except Arno, but he's mostly just lost and confused), so there's an element of "earning respect through teamwork" in the storyline.

Oh, kickass. I loved the first game and lost a ton of time to it. It was extremely simplistic but for some reason the single-character Tales-like combat really attracted to me. Forging your own weapons only made it that much more awesome.

So has this been released already or what? If so that was pretty quick. But the first game wasn't especially big and this one likely isn't either.

I was actually drawn here by the Swordcraft Story 2 part, not the lesbian part.

I really like the Summon Night world. I was really hoping to pick up Summon Night 4 for localization here, as its pretty badass. It's more of a 2D action-adventure RPG, but it's really gorgeous looking. Dunno if it'll ever make it over here though :(
