Eh, I don't mind. though, Trus, are you going to make a thread for it or no? If you're not, I ask that you make a playlist on those sites and link 'em (if possible, if not your LP link will forever be the first video).
I plan to make a thread, I'm just looking for feedback on the video.

Your text isn't quite noticeable enough on the video I think. Are you able to use a different backdrop color on the text? I don't think black works on a game that is mostly comprised of dull colors. Try a mid-tone red or blue.
I'm on the fifth stage, yet I already am ending up with over 100 images in this update. And I'm still a bit over half way through processing the images.
Should I split updates in half rather then have utterly huge updates?

Is that 100 images just taken, 100 images that you plan on using?
When I did the Diablo LP, I decided to cut up screenshots that had one focus point that didn't need the entire screen. At the very least, it cuts down on the update's file size (but still doesn't save work being done; actually makes more).
Splitting an update in two isn't bad. But if you're having to do it every stage you might want to consider changing what gets shown and what doesn't. Like if there's dialog, it'll save space to just type it out.

I tried not to go past 100 at a time, so I think that's a good boundary to keep in mind.

I tried not to go past 100 at a time, so I think that's a good boundary to keep in mind.
Despite this, take many many screenshots - Most of the screens I've taken for EO2 don't actually get uploaded anywhere, they're either reference for text to be written or I just don't like them and don't put 'em to use.

I should be able to, I think I encoded and subbed in the wrong order so it should be an easy fix, unsub the original uncompressed file, encoded it, then sub the encoded video.
Personally, I think that 50 screenshots makes for a good update length. Much more and it can drag on, less and it's just too short.
Also what I did was just record my play on a video, and then take screenshots from that, as opposed to taking them while playing. If you can do that it makes grabbing exact screens a lot easier, especially action scenes so you don't miss stuff because you couldn't hit the button at the right time.

It depends on the content of the screenshots. If you're getting a slideshow of any sort of action, it's fine to have more than 50. But if most of your screens are comprised of some sort of reading, it can get drag-ass.

Well, dialog isn't much of an issue with me. I'm largely paraphrasing a translation of a Japanese game. :P
The main issue is that, well, I don't quite know what I could cut. I'm playing a turn based SRPG. The images I show consist of showing the units attacks, and at the beginning of each turn a screenshot of the map. Also character data and stuff. It all feels pretty vital.
Maybe I should just get used to big updates, the game's exited the "beginning tutorial" stages, so now things are getting more complex, but I doubt they'll get much more

The only way I can think of doing an SRPG screenshot wise is to have a sort of "DAY 3" then "DAY 26" approach, as in not showing every move but how the field evolves over leaps of time.
100 images is a lot for an update. I tried to keep it between 50-60 for FFVII. However I'd prefer more images rather than stopping randomly in the middle of a section. Like, Temple of the Ancients got to almost 80 images because it wouldn't have made sense to just end the update in the middle of it.
It looks pretty much structured like I how I did mine, so I approve. But I'm wrong about like everything in the universe, so it's probably bad advice.
In more depth... (probably don't read this)
I had 30-50 per update of mine, with usually two updates per chapter (I'm not specifically familiar with W, but its chapters are probably still a bit less substantial), but I went with a more flow of battle thing than a turn-by-turn rundown of things (like, just a few screens for the average group of enemies, but I did at times worry I wasn't really properly portraying what was going on).
Also I mostly skipped out on actual battle shots (I just did videos), but the diversity of attacks is much more a draw in Super Robot Wars than Fire Emblem, so it makes sense to show every unit/unique attack in action at least once.
I don't think that was informative at all : ( What I'm trying to say is that my updates would have been extremely similar if I'd gone into the attack detail that you are, and I wouldn't recommend cutting that out.
Overall, I think that say your latest update might have been just a little long, but I hate reading in general so I'm not the best person to ask. And it's not like I actively object to the length.
I'd say though that I think splitting up a long update into two separate posts has some benefits even if you just post them at the same time. Like, maybe I only have time to read half, and if you split it up that way and give me a good and convenient halfway point to stop at, that's better for everyone!
That's kind of the philosophy I went with for my updates. Well, along with just getting tired of writing sometimes (I hate writing, too!). I don't know : (
I'm terrible at saying things, but basically what I'm trying to say is that I don't think there's anything wrong with the material you're using. As in, it's interesting and important and you're not just scraping at mundane stuff. But actual length might be a concern depending on the person (and I have no actual idea what a person would probably think about the issue). I'm not even sure which of these is actually being discussed or asked about sorry : (
Here is a much better quality version of my video on blip.tv; I wasn't able to change the subtitles on the original video so this video is stuck with the black outline, but I think the higher quality makes them stand out a lot more.
Is there an option to turn the in-game subtitles off? It's kind of a clusterfuck with everything happening on screen + the subtitles + your commentary.

I can, however the first video is probably going to be the worst for that since it is probably the most story heavy. I'm going to do another test recording tonight, I'll try it without subtitles.

I just want to say, blip has crazy high quality for streaming. I was able to see the pixelation of the game subtitles.
Hi i am new to this web site but i have found this forum thread and i would like to get my lets plays out there. i am a fan of Helloween and found this website through him.
I am about a year into using youtube to get my videos out so i have a ton of content for people to watch
I have some very good quality everything is done with almost every setting on high and the only problum that i can think of is in mass effect some of the sounds dont work all the time idk how to fix it.
There's a difference between your request and every LP link in the OP. I wonder if you can figure out what that difference is (I'm betting no based on that post..).
While it's cool you found us through another forumer, I'm not going to add your LP's to the list right away. I started this list as something for the community here. If someone watches your LP's and recommends them I'll add them to the appropriate place in the OP, but for now none of that is going to happen. Since you took the time to register here, you should spend some time on the forum - and not just this thread. Read the comic too.
Otherwise, this is (in essence) semi-site whoring as far as I'm concerned.
Paw's King's Quest 5 LP is pretty sweet, watching that now.
Yeah, that game stands as a poster-child for: realism =/= fun. And by realism I mean you can reach a puzzle and have missed your once chance to get the right item. The solutions are in no way realistic.
It's like, if you've played Phoenix Wright, you've probably thought at one point "Man, wouldn't it be bullshit if I went to the trial without picking up that hidden piece of evidence?"
As for my LP watching, I never thought I'd watch a second LP of a game which I've already seen, but Sir Ron Lionheart's LP of Kaizo Super Mario World was just as enjoyable as the SA one, and now I'm on to his Kaizo 2 LP. Also, I love it when his wife joins him, they're such a cute couple.

I know I didn't update the thread when I last said I would, but I'm here to note that I won't be updating it for possibly up to a week due to some RL circumstances. But keep dropping any links or info that needs updating, I'll get to it.
John Romero would, although the commentary would feature the words "Suck it down" every 10 seconds, with the rest of it being him saying how awesome he is.

Okay, I'm trying to get my next LP started, but I'm having some issues.
HyperCam 2 seems to only record every 100th frame of video for some reason, even though I have it set to record every frame. Audio recording is just fine.
Also, I purchased this headset to replace the one eaten by the dog. The audio quality is fine, but the microphone has a 30 ms or so delay to it. It wouldn't be so bad, but I can't figure out a way to work Windows 7 so that I hear the game and not my delayed voice in the mic. It throws me way off.

FYI for the OP, I did wind up abandoning Fear Effect.
The LP, at least. I just finished it on Hard, and the ending was pure awesome. Might be for the best. A screenshot LP for a game that dependent on cinematics and voice work would be pretty dull, but it also wound up taking too many videos per section. I wonder what the happy medium would be.
