I have this itch, and no matter what my doctor prescribes, nothing works. I love the idea of sandbox games, but most of them leave me feeling cold; it's hard to explain, but I feel like they're lacking. As an example of what I love, San Andreas. Start out as a lowly ex-thug with a heart of gold, work your way into owning your own casino, a mansion, a personal air strip, even a damn jetpack. By the end of the game, the stuff you have access to is staggering, and you're free to play around with it. A lot of games are lacking in that; the stuff you have at the beginning is pretty much the stuff you have at the end, it just gets more powerful; you never feel like you've earned anything except better guns or maybe more ways to punch things. Are there any other sandbox games that capture that almost Metroid-like sense of progression and by the end make you feel like you're king of the world?
