Long story short, due to a pilonidal abcess (really, don't GIS it. DON'T), I will almost certainly have lower back surgery tomorrow.

This will mean upward of 10 hours a day on the couch for a few weeks.

I need books, DVDs of asian guys kicking the shit out of each other, and videogames. Help me PA, you're my only hope.

I've access to a wii, ds, ps2, and if we can get it fixed, a 360.

I have Guitar hero controllers for the Wii, and will get Rock Band 2 if it actually gets released this friday, but it will be weeks before I can play it. The same goes for excessive waggle, suggest by all means, but its just not possible for a while.

Here's a list of the sort of things I own:

Platformers: Have the Mario series downloaded, also got Braid recently. I'm open to platformers in a big way. Also have New SMB.

1st/3rd person shooters: Not as big on them as I used to be. Have the Punisher, Rogue Trooper, Metroid Prime Series and Red Steel. I don't hate Red Steel, I think it's ok, so am open to the sequel. Call of Duty 4 was fun, but you'd have to convince me on Modern Warfare 2.

Side on/top down shooters: I love Contra 3 and merely like Contra Rebirth. I am open to Contra 4. I enjoy R-type games I've dowloaded on Wii, but bullet hell is just not my thing.

Fighting 1 on 1: I have Soul Calibur 2. I don't know if I need any more in that series. Downloaded SF2 and Super SF2 on wii, and MVC2 on 360. I used to like SF back in the day. I also enjoy my copy of Virtua Fighter 4, but am a little bewildered, mostly because I'm not a fan of picking one fighter and learning them to the point of mastery. I'm open to Tekken, but have never owned a copy.

Fighting brawler: GOD HAND was the game I got when this happened last year and was totally worth the effort. I hear the updates of Final Fight and Altered Beast are both shitpiles. I also enjoyed Viewtiful Joe, and Madworld.

open world: Enjoyed GTA:SA, got bored with GTA4. Enjoyed Prototype recently too.

RPG: I love Mass Effect. I do not love Final Fantasy. I do not enjoy being forced to grind levels befpre being able to progress. I enjoy the 2 Paper Mario Games, but got sick of Mario RPG.

Strategy (Very loose definition here): Starcraft (the only PC game I can play) and Civilization Revolution are agreeable, and the only games of these types I've ever really wanted to sit down and play.

I need to wrap this up, so just to say that I enjoyed No More Heroes, Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, and Killer 7. I also open to puzzlers.

You'll have to forgive typing etc, am a little woozy, but help picking a couple of decent games to order or download will help with the crushing boredom of the coming weeks.

So, who wants to recommend a game for me?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm in Ireland, so PAL games are the necessity, and I have no way of playing PC games. I thought I mentioned this before , but I'm taking lots of painkillers.

I've got one of those (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT GIS) and I've been keeping it drained (DO NOT GIS) so mine is ok... but eventually it's going to drive me to surgery as well. I'm just putting it off.

New RPG's out now... Risen for PC. Decent, and pretty... brutal combat system though. If you're still down when Dragon Age comes out, you can grab that for PC or the 360.

Scribblenauts for the DS will keep you entertained for days (I promise).

Little King's Story for the Wii is a pikmin-esque game where you direct the little king to recruit villagers to use their talents to unlock areas of the game world with their special skills. As you unlock more areas you unlock more jobs for the citizens of your town... which gives them more skills that you can use to unlock more areas etc.

If your 360 gets fixed and you haven't played them: Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie. Also SMB:Galaxy.

Edit: Additional Question - You mention having New SMB (assuming Wii) but Rock Band 2 isn't out? Where are you from?

If you liked God Hand and Viewtiful Joe and haven't already gotten around to them, Devil May Cry 1, 3, and 4 are absolute musts. Especially 3. The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai on XBLA is also a fantastic sidescrolling brawler in the same style. Bayonetta is the next big release of this type, but it got pushed back into next year. Definitely worth picking up if you've got free time around then. Of course, Ninja Gaiden: Black is still on Live Marketplace. Watching. Waiting. And Ninja Gaiden 2 is worth a playthrough if you like Black, despite some wonky balance issues.

Uh, obligatory Ico and Shadow of the Colossus reminder. And Psychonauts, on Live Marketplace and Steam. And Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. And The Orange Box, if not everything from Valve.

If you're looking for recommendations of this, I'd recommend

    Big trouble in little china
    Drunken master 1&2
    kung fu hustle
    Shaolin soccer
    A better tomorrow 1&2
    Hard boiled
    Crouching tiger, hidden dragon

For beat 'em ups, maybe devil may cry 4? Maybe ninja gaiden 2, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who needs to relax. :P

If you like platformer's Super Mario Galaxy is a must if you don't already have it, De Blob and Klonoa are great fun as well. Iv'e also heard good things about Wario Land though i haven't played it myself.

As for ds platformers Henry Hatsworth is a puzzle/platformer hybrid well worth your time even with its occasionally shoddy level design, i've also heard good things about the sonic rush series but again i haven't played them myself.

As for 360 platformers, N+ is absolutely fantastic and Bionic commando rearmed is definitely worth a look, although that game tends to be fairly polarizing so be forewarned.

Edit: Also for the 360, Mirrors Edge is fantastic although it tends very polarizing so again, be forewarned.

I have all those movies apart from Chocolate. These movies tend to be real cheap, so there's about 150 Kung fu/Hong Kong gunplay type movies in my closet. Which is nice.

Good suggestions so far, I completely forgot to mention that I have Devil May Cry 1-3. Fun games for sure, but I'm not sure if I need a fourth.

Ninja Gaiden Black and Super Mario Galaxy are in front of me somewhere, damn fine stuff.

I completely forgot about the team Ico games, oddly given I asked in Game if they were hiding in the second hand games only about 2 weeks ago. I'll look into that.

I treat everyone with kid gloves on this subject as I tire of hearing the word Gross.

Unless I'm very lucky tonight and the damn thing bursts, I'll be having my fifth surgery for this tomorrow. After the third operation, the guys I lived got pissed off that I was moving so slowly and started giving out that I must be playing this up. The conversation went like this:

Me:But guys, they cut a slice out of my lower back, stitched it up, stitched the skin down so it would heal back to the flesh and then attached a hard bandage the size of a toilet roll insert by running sutures under the wound itself so I cant move.

    Them: Bullshit

Me, raising the back of my Tshirt: really, look

Them: Don't show us that shit!

Me: Guys, you cant see the wound, there's the equivalent of a foot square band aid over the entire thing, I'm just showing you the size of the dressing.

Them, looking like the cliche of a woman on a chair when a mouse is seen: NOOOOOOO!

It's always funny when wannabe tough guys act like that. They couldn't handle seeing a giant band aid, but it stopped them talking shit.

Or at least it did, until one of them had to get surgery for the same issue. The guy had his abcess drained only (lucky for him, its not as painful as the excision) and was telling everybody how he was fine and all the nurses were impressed at how little painkillers he had to take etc.

Cue the other guy telling all and sundry how I'm a fucking pussy. I then explained the difference in procedures and he shut the fuck up fast.

Then the chap who had the operation called and said the painkillers and anaesthetics etc must have worn off a week after the op, and suddenly he was in a great deal of pain and then apologised.

Guess which one of these two I still actually speak to.

Get Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer for the DS. It's a remake of an SNES roguelike, pretty much a perfect game and one that you can play for the next year and still enjoy. Just approach it like an arcade rpg, see how far you can get, learn something, repeat, and you'll start to appreciate it. It's selling new in the US for $15, hopefully shouldn't be too much more in PAL countries.

First off, enough kung fu suggestions, I have every thing listed so far and you guys have good taste.
have ordered Fatl Contact with Wu Jing, Jackie Chan in City Hunter (it cracks me up and I didn't have my own copy) and The protector (I have to know), and the Wing Chun tv series with Yuen Biao. Ip Man is on preorder, altough at this stage, I just wonder why Donnie Yen doesn't just get it over with and play Bruce Lee?

Gameswise, I'm sold on scribblenauts. as soon as credit card clears, I'll order it.

I enjoyed the Batman demo, but I'm in no position to get the 360 fixed at the moment.

Shadow of the collosus is tempting, but I'm all excited because Final Fight 2 came out on euro Virtual Console today. I love Final Fight, but I sure as fuck wasn't forking out for a one player version.

The fights in The Victim are so good, I watch it once a month and made me a fan of Leung Kar Yan. Also features Sammo, in period movie, scaring superstitious lackeys by dressing as, wait for it, dracula. That's right, dracula. Fantastic.

I saw you mentioned you liked Street Fighter games back in the day. Go pick up part 4 if you can but definitely get a joystick.

Also, if your thinking about playing Shadow of Colossus do it. You won't be disappointed once you get sucked into it you won't be able to put it down.
