The earliest game I remember playing came with my parents' first computer. It was in the DOS days, text only, no graphics.
I don't remember what it was called. You were on a mission to do something, and you start at a crossroads. There is a path to the right, and a path to the left. An old crone is standing nearby. You can:
1. Go Left
2. Go Right
3. Ask the crone which is the correct path
>>>> Ask the crone
The crone does not know.
>>>>Go Left

We quit and never played again. For some reason that memory has stuck with me forever. Anyone know what this "game" was? Was it beatable, or was it litterally just a loop forever?
I was in a pub the other night talking about old Sega games they should remake or rerelease.
It saddens me how many people still think this is called Alex The Kid.
Wow, I haven't thought about this in years, but half the kids at my school called Ninja Gaiden "Ninja the Gaiden."
Played this Famicon game as a kid that I loved, but didn't know what it was called because it was in Japanese. It was a 2 player overhead shooter, you ran around a jungle island shooting people, throwing grenades, and occasionally riding tanks and saving hostages. It was the greatest thing ever.
Years later, I tried looking up that game, and apparently its called Guevara, and the point of the game is that you're Che Guevara, and you're taking over Cuba.
And player 2 is Fidel Castro.
So yeah.
Holy crap! I played the english version of this game. It was called Guerrilla Warriors and their was no mention of Castro or Guevara. I always thought the island looked like Cuba though.
First game was Super Mario Bros. at age 5, I think. I watched my older brother play Legend of Zelda and Mario for a few years before I got the courage to start playing.
First games included Contra, Super Mario Bros. 3, Castlevania 3, TMNT The Arcade Game, Duck Hunt, and Pro Wrestling.
I never actually played Legend of Zelda, or any other Zelda game, until after I played through Ocarina of Time.
Super Mario Bros for NES for me. I beat that game almost on a daily basis as a kid. I remember my parents bought the system and we had Excite Bike and Rad Racer as well. I miss my Nintendo greatly.
Man I am pretty sure I played Star Raiders if it was on the Atari. It had a special controller and overlay thing you had to use right? I remember having no idea how to actually play it and just flew around until I ran into a enemy and they killed me.
Going along at lightspeed with the dots on the screen felt like the goddamn future though back then.

The first game I remember was pacman. We had a pizza hut about 30 minutes from our little town and thats what they had inside it. After that I used to play this fishing game on my cousins Atari all the time. I loved that game so much.
The first game I remember playing was Super Mario Bros. 3 round at my friends house. He had that and Jurassic Park for the NES, but I seem to remember Jurassic Park being a bit rubbish so we just played the shit out of mario. However, I didn't actually own a game until my 8th birthday when I got a Game boy with Kirby's Pinball Land.
It's probably just nostalgia as I haven't played it in years, but that game was Awesome.

The first game I remember playing was Asteroids on my Atari... I still love that game, and all games like it. When I found Maelstrom on the Macs at school I was in heaven. I have that XBox Live Arcade game... I forget the name... that has online play... but either their matchmaking is the worst -ever- or I just play at the wrong times.

Oh shit, probably something lame like "the Organ Trail" back when I was in kindagarden at school playing on one of the first generation colored Macs, or maybe it was snake... First console game I played would be the Mario/Duck-Hunt combo on NES.

On topic, first game was Duck Hunt around age 4. We just got an NES (1988) and I was afraid of the Gombas in SMB, opting to shoot a gun at the screen instead. I recall playing Bubble Bobble with my mom and Tecmo Bowl with my dad. Mom kept playing up to the SNES while my dad stopped around that time because of too many buttons in the football games.
The first I remember having at home was a monochrome game where you shot parachute troopers as a giant cannon. It was on the 486, I think. I think we later got Qbert. Then we got an Amiga and pimped it the hell out - we had four external floppy disk readers, so you could play street fighter without changing floppies before every match.
I think we also installed a harddrive and some other stuff. It was glorious.
