PS3 Browser - Downloading PS2 Game Saves?

I have always noticed there are Saves for PS2 games on GameFAQs. I've kind of just brushed them off in the past and never thought twice about it - "It must be for an emulator on the computer, like an SNES save state but for the PS2."

Apparently they're the real deal. You download them, put them onto a USB drive, put the USB drive into your PS2, and you have save states from another person.

I have a PS3 now and it comes equipped with a web browser. Anyone know if I could download one of these files and just... I don't know, I guess run it, on the PS3?

It's a .cbs file, and I've never seen such a file type before.

Thanks in advance

I dunno, can you save PS2 games to the PS3's hard drive? If not, can you move files from the PS3 hard drive to PS2 memory cards?

As long as you stick the file in the right area of memory on the PS3, it should work.

Although, it might be the same as the PS1 saves on the PS2, where you needed a PS1 memory cart to save PS1 games played on the PS2. The format could be different for PS2 games saved on the PS3 HDD than PS2 games saved on the PS2 memory cart/HDD.

From what I read on the PS3, the way PS2 and PS1 saves are handled is that a virtual card is created inside the HDD, and that's where all the saves go.

So as long as you could direct the ps3 to save the file into one of those memory cards it should work.

Yep, that's how it works. I've already created a virtual memory card (oddly enough, you can only create 8MB ones).

I guess I'm just worried that somehow I'm going to fuck up this $600 PS3 that's brand-new for a game I don't play too much.

You guys think I should keep researching on other websites (since there aren't many PS3 owners to begin with) or that I'm just a dumbass for worrying it's going to ruin my PS3? I wouldn't be afraid at all if I were just plugging it into a REAL memory card. Then the only thing that could be corrupted is the memory card. I'm afraid of corrupting a bit more than just one memory card.. I'm afraid I might royally screw up the 60gb hard drive. :?

You can't break your PS3 by downloading a file and even if you somehow mess up the hard drive (which really sounds impossible with what you're doing) it's no big deal. You can even take the current one out and replace it with a new, bigger one if you want to -- nothing essential is on it.
