Yes. I know this. Know Your Rule was like that. You started off in the European belt division and eventually moved up to WWE champ. You could leapfrog IC though, which was stupid.

But that's a "Franchise" mode of sorts. You keep records and stats and what-not. It lasts for years and years and years. They did it numerous times over the various games and every time it had the same fucking problem. The storylines get recycled so much that you get tired of playing them. I can't remember the number of times in HCTP that I got the lowcarder beats me for the world title storyline. It's repetative.

That's not what they were going for with 2010. They wanted a Story Mode. And it works pretty well, in my opinion.

The other stuff is pretty cool, though. I created an entrance video for my CAW. It's okay. You can only add clips from a single match, though.

I figured there would be a stipulation like that. Does it just keep playing the random clips or can you put in stuff inbetween/mix up the colors, speed, etc?

And we can use custom music, right?

You can cut up clips, move them around, change the speed in areas, apply animations and filters, add graphics, add sounds, add effects like freeze frames and multi-frames, add transitions, change camera angles, and more. It's pretty robust, but not perfect. It also allows for a pretty long video, though I don't know the total. I made about a 20 second clip and only took up a small bit of the memory bar.

And yes, you can use any playlists you have on your 360.
The issue I have with the aeriel is that you can't start out with your back to the ring. Meaning no moonsault type maneuvers.

One of the taunts, I believe, has your guy jump around backwards so he's facing away from the ring. It's the second move in my dive finisher.

My main complaint with diving finishers is they're really hard to set up. The AI in this game gets up way too quick whenever you climb the turnbuckle or start to climb the cage. I never can get them to do that pass out animation from previous games when you know they'll stay down from a bit, so I assume it's no longer in the game. As soon as you start to climb, boom, second wind.

I thought the diving moves are easier to pull off this year than ever before. I really liked what they did with the converting ground ones to standing. Like, my flying elbow drop becomes a back elbow smash if the guy stands up.

Do you know what number of taunt that is, Sir? I looked everywhere for it and didn't see it.

Btw, a great set up to my diving finisher is my signature turnbuckle move. I'll pull the name later, but basically it's I throw the guy out of the corner, hop up to the top rope and moonsault them. It leaves them laying on the ground and I can run to a turnbuckle with the F up for a finisher.

Edit: Another gripe I just remembered. THERE'S NO FUCKING RANDOM BUTTON ON THE WRESTLER SELECT SCREEN. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!!!!!!!!!!

Well I wasn't saying laziness in rehashing stories was good. I remember Warzone, (i think it was warzone) took me forever to finally work up to the WWE championship, won it but then it was just a cast of defending the belt at following events with no story or build up. But I at least expect a good chunk of storylines, more than 15 matches anyway, 15 matches is like one decent grudge/rivalry. Might just go with Ninja Gaiden 2.

They stay down for diving moves, they just have to be hurt enough, first.

BTW, if anyone feels getting a finisher is too fast, you can change the speed the momentum bar fills in the options.

I like how reversals are harder this year.

On the quick look I noticed some new reversal animations, and how people will actually fight out of submissions now. Is there actually a good number of these, or do they start repeating pretty quickly?

There's a decent number, but it still gets repetitive. Not nearly as bad as some of the past games in that regard, though. Plus, finishers often have unique counters to them again.

There's a lot in this game. I haven't even touched "Career mode" yet. Barely made my one CAW.

As for diving moves, I guess it depends on who you're wrestling? Kane wouldn't stay down for a second, but most everyone else manages to be pretty easy to wear down. Plus, you can still hit ground moves even when they're in that "guard" position with one knee on the ground, trying to get up.

I haven't messed with the XBL downloads yet.

However, I must admit I am an idiot. I completely missed the Career mode. After finishing both Orton and Edge's storylines last night, I delved into Career mode. Before that, PRO TIP: Save before Wrestlemania on Orton's storyline. There's two different unlocks at the end of the match, so you can just load and do the match twice.

Anyways, as for Career mode. I started with my CaS, Justin Sane, Luchador! He's a cruiserweight. So the game tossed me into the Cruiserweight division. The division consists of 4 contenders, yourself and the champion. The champion is hidden from view. So how do you move up? You have to accumulate stars. Like a 5 star match, for example. In this case, I needed 12 stars. You get to select your opponent and the match type, but the match types, except for singles were all ???? out for me. I put on 3 5 star matches. I have no idea how it calculated the number of stars, but I guess I did good enough to earn them. I then faced off for the #1 Contendership in a Ladder match. Pretty cool. After winning that, the champion was revealed to me and ladder match was unlocked in the match type selection list. We fought at a PPV over the title. After winning, I was the new cruiserweight champion! Woo! It gave me the option of picking either the US or IC division next. That's when I went to bed.

Now some of the cool stuff is that it tracks things like wins and losses, all pretty standard, but the stat tracking gets really deep. Things like the number of pin attempts/succeeds. Same thing for submissions. Weapons used. Times jumping off the top rope. All kinds of stats are tracked. Time fighting in the ring and time fighting out of the ring is another one. It's pretty cool. The exp system applies, of course. There's also achievements-in-game for doing certain things in matches. They're "medals" and one for example is called Mucho Lucha and it involves doing 6 top rope moves in a single match. I don't know if these mean anything or not, but I'm guessing they don't.

I've been only playing Career mode so far. I started on the US Championship path, and have now completed it, the IC, and the ECW. I'm currently on the Cruiserweight path. It's cool because it'll remember at least the last title you won and introduce you as the so and so champ in the next path. I'm going to max out my CAW before sending him to RtW. I think he's around an 85 overall now.

So for anyone that is on the fence on this game, download the 09 demo, cause as far as in ring gameplay, it's almost identical.

I'm not really digging the way finishers are set up now. For those unfamiliar, you can either build up your finisher slowly through time, or you can built up enough momentum to get a 'signature' move. If you do the signature move, that puts you in finisher mode. I say 'mode' cause it doesn't seem to be a one time thing as the previous games. I know I have finishers reverse and still have enough time to set them up and do it again. Not sure if you can do multiple ones. '

I was playing with Edge, one of the optional goals in a match is to do your finisher on the other three competitors. Wouldn't be to hard except Edge's signature move requires you to catch your opponents of the rope, and couple with that with the fucking hit detection being piss poor(seriously, try hitting someone twice in a row when in a four man match) makes it frustrating.,

Also, how do you avoid being thrown off in the royal rumble? Is it just mashing buttons?

The community part does look cool though. There's some wait time as the system downloads the wrestlers, but meh, I prefer that than looking at gamefaqs and following their directions.

I have no idea how to store finishers. I saw HBK in a match with Fx3 next to his little hud once and was like "HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!" It might be a wrestler perk ability.

Grappling is easy. The right stick is for all your grappling needs. A quick flick in any direction is a quick grapple. Stuff like arm bars and elbows to the back of the head. Simple shit, really. This works both front and back. Strong grapples are a flick of the stick plus RB/R1 (depending on system). They get you into a strong grapple. From the strong grapple, you can flick the stick again for a strong move, press X/[] button for a strike attack, or click in the stick for a submission move.

Everyone has 8 quick grapple moves, 16 strong grapple moves, 4 strong grapple striking attacks, and 4 strong submission moves.
There's an achievement for hitting all 16 of your strong grapple moves in a single match.
