hmm . . i noticed that you have a list of people going on the trip . . . and you forgot to include me even though i said i bought tickets for my brother and myself about 2 months ago . . . but i'm sure that was just an oversight. i belive you replied with "woot woot!" well anyway if you could be so kind as to add me to the list of people who's coming that would be swell.

Sure, why not! Are you flying into LAX or Portland?

I have a prefrence to LAX since that just means more time on the rails. But if I can't find a ride there then Portland wins.

Wow! This sounds awesome! As soon as we have the money for it, my boyfriend and I'll be buying tickets to hop on. We're in San Francisco but I'm going to fw this on down to some friends of ours in LA to see if they'd like to join. I know I'm down for Munchkin in all of its many forms.

I definitely WANT to do this, since I planned on seeing my family in Cali right before going to PAX for my first time ever this year. Thing is, I'm not 100% sure yet if I'll be able to go. Getting the right amount of time off work at just the right time might be kinda hard. Plus I planned on taking the train home to North Dakota from Washington afterwards, and I don't know if I can handle two train rides so close to each other. I'll definitely letcha know when things become more concrete.

whaddya mean? That train ride is PERFECT!

The day after PAX (the 27th), you'd check out of your hotel and check your bags in at the train station. The train leaves Seattle at 4:45 PM, which then gives you most of the day to wander the city. See Pike's Place market, ride up to the Columbia Tower observation deck, you name it.

    Cost-wise, it's a $40-50 difference. Round-trip from LAX to Seattle and back is $178.
LAX to Seattle to Minot is $219
LAX to Seattle to Fargo is $229.

The cheapest airfare I could find is $449.

Hey all, I think i may be game for the trip via the rails. Got a couple issues though as i havent secured a hotel yet or figured out how im getting from PHX, AZ to LAX. TNTTrooper i see ur from AZ as well. It seems that you might be Gun-Ho on flying to LA but i was thinking of driving as i gotta bring my compy and i dont want to have to check luggage on that. If you're interested i may have a vehicle (reliable one at that too) that we could use to drive to LA. PM me if you're interested as i may even be down to split a hotel room or whatever accomidations i can find. Any one else from AZ let me know too and we'll get this sucker planned. The vehicle that im planning to take can seat 7 (Chrysler Town and Country).

Like some others, I made an accout just to post here. Drove to last years Pax but with it being Downtown this year there is no way I'm driving. Who puts street lights on corners? My boy toy and I live in Williams OR so we will be catching the train in Klamath Falls. We will both be bringing M:TG Decks. This is gonna be my first train ride. Sounds fun.

Driving is fine I just didn't consider it cause I don't wanna drive by myself all the way to LA. As far as hotel rooming goes I do have a spot for 1 person in the Crown Plaza just send me a PM if you want the info. Lindy your in I can either fill the extra nights with or figure something out.

RCars where you one of those guys I played Munchkin with last year for like 20 minutes in Sky Harbor last year cause the flight was delayed?

hey slacktron, I'm thinking of building a mini gaming computer for pax. Once I find a tiny case that supports full sized ATX motherboard and PSU in a mini computer case, I'll bring it with me to pax.

I just don't want to get one of those mini cases that comes with a nonstandard case.

Hey, forget about my mom going. Screw that.

I'm still a little confused on the alcohol issue. So is everyone planning on getting drunk in their private cabin car things, then stumbling out with everyone else, or are we, like, partying in each other's cabin room things? I know it was said earlier we can't drink our own alcohol in the public areas, and I'm sure train booze is expensive/gross.

We looked up times and such for the train from SF. Apparently we're to board around 10pm? Hope we don't miss out on much of the revelry. Also, the BF's name is Nick. Mine is Gabrielle. :D

We're getting those student discount cards 'cause 15% off fair and food is SO worth it.

I made an account here just to post on this thread... now that I'm here and its lookin like I'll be spending about 22 hours with y'all, I'm down for getting to know thread members a bit better.

Just wondering since this got brought up but what is the plan to get to and from the station and the hotel? I know airports have shuttles, taxis and stuff but depending on the price and how many people pool the money together a chauffeured car can end up being cheaper then the shuttle at least it was last year at the airport.

There are shuttles and taxis waiting for every train, but there's also a bus if you want it.

    Bus Fare: $1.25
To PAX: Catch the MT49 - University District
at 5th and South Jackson, get off at Pike St. and 6th Ave.

Back to Amtrak: Catch the ST545 - Seattle Express
at 5th & Pike, get off at 5th and South Jackson.

Man, I can't believe I happened to read this. What luck!

I've been thinking about cases lately as my current one is an all-steel water-cooled behemoth that's going to require a hand truck just to dislodge it from its current resting position.

I've been thinking that HTPC cases fall into the compact-but-full-size-mobo classification the best. I'm probably going to get something like a Lian Li v880. It's got three problems in that:
    1. It's expensive
    2. It's sorta heavy
    3. It doesn't have a window for shining lights

Last year, I brought an Antec Super LanBoy which, although a little bit larger than the Lian-Li, was lightweight, cheap, and had a window. Plus, Antec put a lot of attention to the layout of the case, so it was an easy build.

Wait, isn't this a thread about trains? Oops.

I'm going to have to catch my train on Friday because of stinkin' work on Thursday, so I'll have to miss out on the bulk of the supertrip. Bummer.
