Well, it looks like all I really needed was a break. I've been avoiding Aion in favor of other games for a couple weeks now, and I'm finding that I'm actually somewhat eager to get back into the groove of Fire Temple groups and Abyss gang wars.

I am. To be honest, I'd even be interested in rifting over from Eltnen at some point just for the hell of it. Plus I've got a spy quest from Celestine, gotta harvest a poison sac or some shit over there.
Two big things happened recently that reinvigorated my interest in Aion - I hit 30, and I made about 840,000 kinah selling two lucky blue armor procs. Having the cash to do stupid things like buy enough Greater Wind Serums to farm aether in a reasonable timeframe and straight-up purchase all the physical crit manastones I can use has given me a whole other picture of what Aion gameplay can be.
Now I just need to figure out how to make 840,000 kinah per level without botting or RMT.

I didn't realize not even 2 months post release was "late in the game". I better start taking my comp with me to work so I can keep up with the 10% of people on my server above level 30.
It's only late in the game when the thread title already has to emphasize that, Yes, people still play, and no, the game hasn't completely dropped into oblivion.
I'm definitely glad I chose to play with a few real life friends that I know aren't quitters. Would have really sucked to be in a guild where everyone quit within 2 months.
The guilds are still active. Not like they were at launch, but they are by no means dead. And let's all remember that the last 5 weeks have been nothing short of horrific in terms of launch schedule, particularly for PS3 owners. Now that the worst of that is past I wouldn't be surprised to see some people trickle back in.
I'd be over 25 right now but I got derailed by Uncharted 2. That and I had to put in some time grinding up my gather skill to catch up to where my level was. I love this game but if I had to pick my biggest downside to it, it'd be grinding gathering. Definitely glad I laid down the 18K on my 100-199 hat that marks everything on the map for me. That was totally worth it when I was looking for a specific mineral in Eltnen.
Cleric Looking for a Rift Group, sure i can find groups in game, mthe reson im posting here, is i want to find people that want to go over to the other side and do some serious PVP, on the Fly. and not just to the First death.

Buy a Kisk( buy several), and Ive been over there, thru the Elten temple rift. ran along the left wall, past the Gorgons, and then Flew Across the Next Valley. By the Spider looking stucture, cought some Updrafts. and Landed on TOP of the Ridge Line, UP and Above where anyone or any Mob could Reach. Its at this Location, that i will drop My Kisks(2Hr). Place Kisks where they cannot be found and Destroyed.
Then the Players with me, do a local bind. and either go their own way and do thier own thing. or form small gang squads, do Kill the Asmos. As you die, repop and then try again. its a 2hr kisk. at the 1hr:50 timer I will repop at my Kisk and Place a "NEW" Kisk, rebind to the New Kisk at the same location. and Contiue the attack.
I expect that Many Asmos willl go crazy trying to Find the Kisk. The Up and Out of the way Location that i have tripped accross is Not Unique, but it is Hard to Get to Unless you know how to Glide, Float, and catch some Lift. the Asmos. cant get to it without going thru a Level 34 area. and then Flying across the southeren Valley.
On the other hand, we need to Look out for areas like this on Our side and Be ready to Investigate them should there be any Prolonged Asmo attacks.
With the Use of Ventrillo By the Other guilds, I expect the Few 3-5 man gank sqauds to become More like a Guild Raid and with the Times Posted on Sites like Aionology for the Rifts Locations/Timers, that although abyss is available at 25, Rift is availabe at 20.
Bots! Bot Killing should be a High Priority target, they are a Pain to us, they are a pain period, and we would kill them if we could. Find out where the Asmo Bots are frequenting, go there and Kill them. Several times, if you need a cleric to come, send me a in game whisper or tell, Ill drop what im doing to go with ya.
If you want to see whats it like on the asmo side. make a alt on a diff server, go there and try your broker thing there, and also find the comman location for asmo bots. The bot farmers do the same thing on multiple servers. any information you find, share with us here. then we can go and find them, and kill them.
Sure its not True PVP, since its a Bot, tho you might be killing it when it*wakes* up and starts to fight back and or run... then.. its game on. and if it auto rezs, free abyss points. kill it again. also be sure to find a nice hole in the wall and set up a kisk in a tree/rock/wall some place not obvious.

'Prior to G?2009 's opening 2 days from now, NCsoft has taken a lead by holding a press conference for their games. First up is their 2009 blockbuster MMORPG, Aion: The Tower of Eternity. NCsoft has announced that in the upcoming updates, several new features will be added, including:
1. Player housing system
2. Brand new underwater city/maps
3. Player mount system (the flying fishes seen in the skies can be used)
4. Some existing locations will be given a cosmetic makeover
5. New classes (see below)
6. More detailed environmental changes, like the 4 seasons

All I see in that video, is that they're making an effort to catch up with the other Western MMOs content-wise - taking a bit from all of them. Looks damn nice though.

The fact that they appeared to distance themselves from that wasn't lost on me, either. My guess is that they realized, just like Mythic did, is that there is no such thing as "a PvP game". There are only MMOs that include PvP. Focusing too much on either PvP or PvE results in a MMO, in some ways, that is poorer for it.

Just an opinion really, I'm sure there were many factors responsible for Warhammer's rapid decline (as an example), I was just pointing out that every game that has pushed the term "PvP game" in its marketing/community driven hype/official videos and podcasts/etc have failed because they chose to focus on that aspect within a role playing game instead of developing it as, well, a role playing game.
