Dresden here. Just letting all of you who don't prowl the Aiononline.com website that a public test server has been launched, in which there is increased xp/ap/crafting gain, and higher loot drops.
This server also allows you to roll both asmo and elyos toons.
Nimisha and I will be rolling on the American server, asmo to begin with.
None of this is permanent, but if you want to tool around and try a new class/race, come and join us. It should be fun.
(Protip: to acess the servers, simply copy the contents of your "Aion" folder (should be in NCsoft) into a new folder "AionPTS", in the same folder that the original "Aion" Folder is residing. The launcher should detect it and list it along side the regular aion)
Have fun!
Edit: Also, you will be able to roll more than 8 (including your normal live server toons), but at the moment, this is bugged, and you cannot create more than 8 toons (including your normal live server toons) This is being worked on.
Yeah same. I didn't have any problem with my ncsoft account for as many games I have on it like City of Heroes, Guild Wars etc; until I had Aion.
I think it was a combination of their own lack of security (come on NCSoft, get with the Authenticator game. Seriously), and some jacked up crap going ton with the aion wiki and/or aion armory.
Wait... so it seems like a ton of the active Aion players had their accounts "hacked," phished or password guessed at some point? Did all of you have passwords guessable by a dictionary brute force?
Wait... so it seems like a ton of the active Aion players had their accounts "hacked," phished or password guessed at some point? Did all of you have passwords guessable by a dictionary brute force?
I sure didnt, mine was a word that makes no sense followed by a number combination. Be extremely hard to guess. I hadn't used the account for a couple months now, but i go to resub and my password no longer works.
This never happened till i got Aion either. Also the worst part is is they are asking for game activation codes from my games i have in the account, and i lost my guild wars box like 4 years ago in a move, i have no idea what my CD key code things are for that game. The only one i have on hand is my Aion one. I sent them that code and explained that i'd been playing Guild Wars since beta and i lost my boxes for it in a couple of moves over the years.
They also asked for the last 4 digits of the credit card i used to make my account, i used a throw away MAstercard gift card so i cant provide that either. I explained this to them as well.
What i could give them was all my address info and account info, birthday, and key code for Aion. And obviously the original e-mail address it was registered for is my e-mail. Hopefully this and my explaination is enough because i refuse to re-purchase this game again because i lost my account due to NC Soft having shitty account security. In fact if i lost my account i dont think i'd be inclined to buy an NC Soft product again for fear of losing my game account.
I'm on the other side of the coin: I've had two aion accounts since before release (both pre-order "beta" accounts) have been (more or less) continually active on them. I personally know four other people who play. Out of those six accounts that i have first-hand knowledge of, not a single one has ever had any security issues, has never been hijacked, and have never had the password changed without the owner's knowledge.
Having said that, I also know that we (collectively) have received over two dozen phishing emails that claim our passwords have been changed... just click here to resolve the issue! I have to hand it to the scammers though, the URL for the clickthrough is na-aiononline.com (the REAL site is na.aiononline.com) and it looks IDENTICAL to the official login page.
It's even possible that they caught a few people in the "scam" that accidentally logged in to their site without the email prompting because the URL is so blasted close to the real one.
Well, from what I can tell, the people who have had their accounts stole were inactive players. I haven't really heard of anyone taking active accounts.
I never click any "account e-mails" I get from any site/service/anything ever. MMO or otherwise. I am pretty damn secure in both my computer and in my passwords. I've never had my account hacked in any game, site, anything ever prior to the Aion issue.
From my perspective this is entirely NCSofts fault. I rarely used any sites like aion armory and when I did I never logged in. And any site I have an account for a game (say, wowhead), I always make sure my username/password is never the same as it is for my main game account.
So yeah. I really don't think this was a phishing thing. I think someone hacked the aion powerwiki that is hosted by ncsoft, or ncsofts site itself. You can log into your master account on the ncsoft website and it probably has piss poor security.
I know that when I got my accounts hacked, I couldn't find a trace of the keylogger that did it. Since there wasn't any, I figure it was a exploit in Flash that did it, since some of the older versions had holes that didn't require you to actually click or install anything, they'd just run in RAM and disappear when you restart.

Yeah, my account got yanked during one of the periods when I wasn't playing. I've never used an Aion site beyond the NCSoft site, and I have a pretty complicated password.
Thankfully they didn't do anything with my account before I caught it and got it corrected.
(Protip: to acess the servers, simply copy the contents of your "Aion" folder (should be in NCsoft) into a new folder "AionPTS", in the same folder that the original "Aion" Folder is residing. The launcher should detect it and list it along side the regular aion)
Wow, I spent a long time downloading it when I could have just done that.
Ah well.. I guess I'll try it out, even though I've already been an Asmo.
Well NC soft replied to my information, with the e-mail telling me "you are missing relative information please include this info" and then listed on the exact fucking info i sent them in the first e-mail.
God dammit. If they dont give me my account back i am never buying another NC soft game ever again period. It isn't my fault their account security is shit and i shouldn't have to lose hundreds of dollars worth of purchases and hundreds of hours of game progress because they cant get their shit together.
The test server exp and drop rates are INSANE. Exp is at around 4x, and drop rates... who knows, but they're really high. Asmo in legion TEAM YUSTIEL... any Yustiel people are welcome, just whisper Kaandy or Kanojo.
Seriously, I feel spoiled. I went from 1-9 in about 25 minutes without doing any quests at all on my mage.

It's fun isn't it? Its a nice feeling knowing that I will eventually get a drop that I want.... not just hope. I was talking with a few people that I grouped with, and they thought the higher drop rate mellowed alot of people out, since even if they didn't get the roll a particular time.... they will get it another.... so they don't mind waiting and running areas a few times just to help out a fellow toon because it is fairly easy.
I don't know, I like the test server, since it is actually fun. Hell, this is the first time that taking down minibosses has actually been of benefit. But it isn't an accurate representation of what the makers of Aion actually designed it to be.
NC Soft started dicking me around about me not having my Guild Wars game keys because i had lost the boxes a few years ago. Do i replied and told them i was going to file a report for internet fruad (I mean the log in name for the GW account was the bloody e-mail i was messaging them from.) and so they instantly reset my account passwords and sent me the new info about 20 mins after i sent my response.
That worked well. So, how many people are even active in Aion? There any hope of playing with anyone? And on what servers? I will be resubbing when i get home.
Make sure you change your password to something stupid complex and don't use the powerwiki or log into their main site (the aion site, not the account page).
That's all I can figure I lost my account from before.

I was thinking of dropping a month when 1.9 hits.
Yeah all i did was log off for a few months, i didnt even use any Aion web sites other than the main one. I changed my password, hopefully it helps me out. Also it seems that someone subscribed a month to my account in April which was not me. They also made an Asmo on another server.
I didn't get "hacked" till a month or two after I had canceled.
Too bad you didn't get the fun stuff I did when I got my account back though. :P Maybe NCSoft took the time to remove it this time? I dunno.
Well it looked like whoever subbed on my account didn't have it for very long. Less than a month before i reported it and got my account back. NC soft let me keep the remaining time, which is most of this month, and i added 2 months pre-paid ontop of it.
Also now i need to find people to play with. I am all by my lonesome and all the people i played with before are all gone it seems.

What server are you on, and what level?
Yustiel, but only level 19. I'd switch servers if i had people to at least chat with. I don't even have that right now. Also Yustiel seems a lot less populated than it was in the past.
I'm still playing on Yustiel, but very rarely on the weekends. My "prime" play time is tuesday through thursday evenings between 6 and 10PM.
Overall server population feels a lot lower these days. This last week was even lower for some reason. Perhaps the test server pulled people away. The double-XP weekends usually see a pretty significant bump in population though... and a corresponding bump in broker prices. (The manastones that I bought this last week for 6,000 kinah each usually sell for around 15,000 each during the 2x weekends.)
A word of warning to low level players: Eltnen has become the "main" PvP area in the game. If you are hoping to XP/quest/grind and are in Eltnen, you are extremely likely to be chain-ganked by roving groups of rifters. Oddly enough, the lower Abyss seems to be completely safe. In the past two weeks I've been killed over a dozen times in Eltnen, but have not even _seen_ a single enemy in the Abyss.
Looking forward to multiple 1-man instances, new item marking, and pets that tell you when someone from the other faction is close
It's easy to tell when someone from the other faction is close. Go to the chat window menu, Add Tab, and under "Combat - Others" check all five of the "Enemy's ______." Then move that tab somewhere off to the side of your screen or something. It's transparent which is nice, and when someone from the other faction is near and they use a buff or a potion or something it'll show up.

Yeah, but that doesn't really help. If they did anything that would show up on it, chances are they're already too close for it to do any good.

You could say the same about the pets, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.
I just want people to play with. The games areas i am in with my lvl 19 are all barren of other players. This sucks. I guess i need to find a more populated server.
