The best trap is a 10 foot pit, where upon landing a trapdoor above the pit is released, dropping a Gelatious Cube onto the poor soul.

Panel 2 has a title for the trap; "the gullet".
I keep wanting there to be a title for panel 3 as well.

Oh man if I ever DM again I am definitely stealing it. The look on a player's face would just be priceless.

    Better than WoW comics?

Actually I don't care, I enjoy almost all of their comics regardless of topic

See, that was something I appreciated. Tycho liked D&D, Gabe didn't. So usually when it was referenced, there was additional humor available in it, even to people who didn't participate in that hobby (as it was self-abasing). Now though, they're getting into doing stuff that only interests actual D&D players. Which, granted, is well within their rights. It's just not my preference. ITT we sometimes state our own preferences.

I would just perception check 20 that shit. It's a trap. Telekinesis the gold off the top.

    What'd you roll?

    A 1.

You telekinesis yourself onto the gold.

One of my favorite parts of the D&D podcast was when I think... Wil Wheaton rolled a history check to see if he knew about the cave of something or other, and the dialogue went something like this:

"Have you heard of the Cave of (whatever it was)?"
"Um... Have I? Can I roll for that?"
    "Yeah, go ahead"
    "4. WHAT'S A CAVE?"

Also, I'm guessing the comic is related to the new Wizards of the Coast DM Hotline.
If you have a question about running 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons, whether it's a technical rules quandary, or would simply like to improve your DMing skills, here's your chance to speak directly with the folks at Wizards of the Coast! Expert DMs—including R&D's Mike Mearls and Rob Heinsoo—will be on hand to field your calls on the DM Hotline.

The DM Hotline takes place for just a few short days: October 8-11, between 2pm and 6pm PDT. If you're looking to improve you game, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with Wizards of the Coast DMs! Simply call toll-free (800) 878-3326.

Please note that at this time, the DM Hotline is only available for calls originating within the US and Canada.
