weird disk tray

So my dad's computer's disk tray will randomly open and close. I initially thought it maybe the button but I found out it does it every time it leaves standby mode, as well as intermittently through the day. So i figured it must have been software. i deleted the only CD burning programs he has in hopes that would do it, but it did not fix it. So any suggestions you may have would be much appreciated.

    Check that the data cable is plugged in all the way, or just go all out and replace it. DVD-burners are dirt cheap

    Might be a virus, many script kiddies really loved opening and closing CD drives back when someone discovered you could script Internet Explorer 6 to do it without any alerts or visible prompts. Ah, good times.
