Whether you're roaming the city or camped out in the comfort of your living room, this week's new downloadable games invite you to virtually venture toward outer space for some wild intergalactic action. Mighty Milky Way for the Nintendo DSiWare™ service sends players on a planet-hopping mission filled with intrigue and adventure. Meanwhile, on the WiiWare™ service, MDK™2 features a trio of unlikely heroes who must join forces to protect Earth from a sinister alien threat. For fresh hand-held fun without the interstellar obstacles, a new retro-styled platformer and an irreverent picture-based game also make their Nintendo DSiWare debut this week.

I am seriously considering buying a wii just for MDK2. The upcoming price drop is part of it, but I also want to encourage the digital download re-release of comic sci-fi games from around the turn of the millennium (BG&E, MDK2, G:CK, ANOX, etc.) And there's a handful of wii titles I've been interested in playing eventually, so it might finally be time to pick up a cheap wii, and even cheaper used copies of wii games. Oh yeah, it'll be nice to have a livingroom SCUMMVM player, too!
(Sure the price is going to go lower, but if I wait until the next console is announced, I'll probably end up never buying one)
So Im sitting in the Wii Shop, waiting to pull the trigger on MDK2. In my head, its a DREAM on the wii. Sniping with the Wiimote. Switching weapons with Max using the Wiimote and Nunchuck. AIMING with Max with them.
But I decided to find a review too, since I still have a working Dreamcast and MDK2, just to be sure its not a disasterous port. But I cant find any reviews.
Anyone try it yet, or do I just close my eyes and buy it and hope?
I may just "vote with my wallet" anyways in hopes of MDK3.

All of those (if you're referring to Aqua Nox) are available on GoG for $6 ($10 for BG&E, which is also on Steam).
I love Steam and GOG, but I also like the idea of porting old PC games to the more popular console platforms too. And neither of them have Anachronox yet
The big thing that's scaring me is the fact I realized the WiiWare game size limit is WAY smaller than the Dreamcast disc.
So I feel like things just HAD to be cut...

Don't question it, just do it! Pull the trigger. Do it now, or you'll forever regret it. Live on the edge. Swim with the Dolphins. Swing with the monkeys. Wrestle a tiger. Buy this game!
supposedly motion control works great; graphically, wii version is missing some special effects, like the character has no shadow. And the Audio quality took a hit due to compression.
I couldn't resist -- I had to buy it. From what I remember, and keep in mind I haven't played the game in a long time, it looks almost identical. The game is SUPER fun to play using the Wii Remote + Nunchuk. Also, the game is WAY easier, since you can actually choose a difficulty. I remember the Dreamcast version being way too difficult to the point that it became no fun.
Actually, I think I may go as far as to say that it looks better than the Dreamcast version. This version seems to run at 60fps.
The soundtrack is amazing, so as long as thats in tact, Im gold.
I hesitated because i was really excited about the motion controls and aiming with the Wiimote, and realized I hadnt read ANYTHING even confirming motion controls. I suddenly became worried that it was a quick port that didnt even use the IR.
So, so excited. The XBox is going to get a long, well deserved rest while I battle through this again.

So I bought it. Overall, very glad I did - but MAN did it suffer from that size limitation. Like, a ton.
- I played the DC one and the WiiWare one almost back to back. The graphics on the Wii are way, way worse. Textures are dull, the character models are incredibly blocky and using the sniper scope - no lie - at times I couldnt figure out what the aliens heads were. It made headshots hard. No problem on the Dreamcast. The enemies are so blocky with such little detail it was hard to see the green triangle with the two black dots was the head and eyes.
-The sound is awful. Like, easily the worst sound in a game in forever. It is compressed to shit, and every voice is incredibly tinny. The beautiful, thumping, exciting beats of Jesper Kyd sound like they're coming from a small iPhone speaker. This was corrected by using the MDK2 Dreamcast disc in my computer and playing the soundtrack from there
BUT! The controls are a dream. Perfectly tailored for the Wii. It was so much fun and so easy to fly around, snipe and strafe. It was a blast.
So overall - its a great game. The controls on the Wii are perfect. Everything else on the Dreamcast is better (but the controls on the DC - moving with the ABXY buttons! - is the WORST). Most of the action takes place zoomed out, running around, where bad graphics wont bother you. There's enough fun and good humor in here to make it an absolute steal for $10 with these controls.
Dual analog controls, with no file size restriction, for XBLA would be the dream scenario though.

I'm fine with the graphic hit. It runs at 60 fps and the controls are perfect. I do wish they could have kept the full length music tracks but it's a small nitpick.
I don't know if I would want to play it with dual-analogs now that I've had a taste for this version. Of course, I could always play MDK2 Armageddon on PS2 if it really bothered me.
From what I've heard, the extras on the DS version are lame, but the port itself is good. So basically, it comes down to do you want to play the cheaper version on your TV or have a slightly more expensive portable version?
DS version for sure. The updated translation is great (though I wish they'd left the opening lines alone), and using the touchscreen for menu selection and navigation is perfect.

Man, I really wish I had more space on my Wii. There's a whole bunch of stuff I'd love to get but I'd have to put on an SD card to make use of it.
Why not just use the SD card? Ever since they made it so you can play off of the card, I haven't kept a single game on the Wii's dashboard.
Yeah, I might put FF III on the front page for instant access, but everything else can wait the two seconds it takes to load. Just get a high quality, fast 2GB SD card and move everything over.
