Have anyone else experienced a bug where character sounds just completely disappear? My character's footsteps make no sound, nor does rolling. Every other sound is there, but my character is silent as a ninja. It's weird, and kinda breaks the immersion, since the game has some good armour clinking going on.
It's been like that for a few days now, and quitting/turning off the system doesn't help. It seems to be tied to my character.
Edit: And, no, I'm not in soul form or wearing the thief ring or anything like that.
Hrm, if you create a new character, are they noisy as a moose? Or are they super ninja as well?
Nope. Not your traditional multi-player component. You can't even really decide who you get to coop. And sometimes when you try to go coop you actually become the boss of someone's level.
I am absolutely LOVING this game but I really want to have my friend purchase the game and join me in dominating some invading black phantoms.
Lets say I was in body form and he was in soul form, standing in the same spot in our respective worlds... If he dropped down a blue stone, would I be able to pick him up at will or would there only be a chance that his blue marker show up?
I've read that other people in the thread have been hanging out with their buddies in game and talking on skype and I want to know how they managed!
The marker will show up, the question is whether you're in the same area to see it, and if someone else doesn't just grab the marker first.
I use the text chat feature on the PS3. I'd rather have voice support, which hopefully is a correct rumor for the next firmware, but text'll do for now. Once you've started a text chat, it's just pushing the PS button to go from the game to bringing up the chat in the XMB (also, a keyboard helps alot). From there, we coordinate whatever we have to, particularly what level we're meeting in, who's going to be alive or dead, and most importantly, where and when to put down the blue marker. Alot of times if you don't coordinate it well, it seems like someone else will come along and snatch people up at random, so it helps to find an out-of-the-way place to do your grouping.
Also of note, the live player can only summon people into areas that they have not completed yet; once you beat the boss for that leg when alive, the only way you'll be able to do it again in co-op would be as a blue phantom to a live person who hasn't done that stage yet.
Anyone know the exact conditions to have that door open on the left when you first enter 1-1? After killing 2 invading phantoms (yay still having grass and Warding active from my previous playthrough!) my world is fairly white; white enough for the dragons to be gone. But that door is still locked. And actually, with how many times I've played that world I can't believe I never noticed that giant area with tons of loot. Also a shame because I was able to pick off the crystal gecko with my bow but not able to go get it. :x
I was really nervous through there (even though it's 1-1) because I had over 100,000 souls from the end of my first game, which was over 150k by the time I reached Phalanx. Firebombs weren't *quite* as useful as I was hoping and I almost bought it a few times. In the end I was able to make back those 4 sucked soul levels and then some. Even relatively powered up you just never know when you might accidentally get your guard broken and take a nasty backstab.
I'd love to try for a relatively perfect run on this playthrough (using the guide extensively) but it seems overly complicated. I guess I will also have to play offline. I did read that the difference to NG+ is hefty, but after that first big spike it's a lot less. In other words, there's always NG++ I guess.
Kill a boss or two to open the door. Don't die in body form there. Don't kill Doran.
Also, I guess it's actually GOOD that I terrain killed PW Miralda as it means I didn't get a CT hit (I thought I should be getting +CT, but that's only for killing the BP version). FYI, load your game if you terrain kill an NPC, their loot should spawn at their spawn point (don't do this with Ostrava)
Biorr makes me think of Ghimli for some reason. Short and in heavy armor I guess.
I rerolled as a Knight last night, and after killing the Tower Knight, that door was open to me. It had never been open to me before (in my other game, or this one) but it opened right up and my WT was white but not that white. And the dragons were still there. I dunno.
So is it worth pursuing a +5 dragon weapon? I'm considering upgrading the dragon long sword since it's really good, but I might do the knight sword instead. But since they don't scale with stats, I don't know if they're worth spending chunks on in the long run. What say you?

And yeah, I wish the coop aspects of the game were a little easier to set up. I have tons and tons of materials I could potentially give people. Making the Nexus more like a town where people could meet, trade and team up would be really awesome.

Sounds like a good idea, but having something like that turns this single player game with co-op into a mini MMO.. then the developers would suddenly be responsible/accountable for keeping a beast like that stable and running fine..
Your 'dream' of this game is a lot more costly (upkeep) for a developer
Tower knight is kinda easy so people may not be accepting. Make sure you're also connected to the server (press select and try to write a message).
I dont know about that.... Before i killed the tower knight i was getting summoned within 2-5 minutes of planting my stone.... now i can sit there for 10+ minutes
So you HAVE helped someone kill a boss that you have already killed?
Yeah, I helped someone beat the Tower Knight last night so I could get my body back and I've already beat him in my world and helped lots of others beat him too. Same with all the other bosses.

Similar to what the post above mentioned, I help people kill Flamelurker all of the time, even though I've already killed him. Easy souls if you have the right combination of abilities.
Though he is a pain in the ass to fight solo without cheesing him.
Edit: I've been having difficulties with invading others' games. Seems that I can never use my stone. Am I missing something in the mechanics here?
Yeah, I'm currently standing outside Tower Knight's room, waiting for someone to accept. I've killed him a couple of times now, but he is, in my experience, one of the less "populated" bosses.

1. Hit up 1-3 stone and walk backwards, killing the two blue knights.
2-10. Repeat #1 until I have a goodly number of Half and Full Moon Herbs. Each knight drops 2-3 of each, so 10 runs should get me enough for a boss or two.
11. Kill Flamelurker, Unlocking the Special Blacksmith
12. Farm until I can make a Crushing +5 weapon, making a Crushing Axe / Halberd.
Not sure if I can take out the 2-3 boss, but I think it might be a good thing to try -- once I have my Crushing +5, that is.

Note that Blacksmith Ed is 'unlocked' as soon as you turn on his lift - nothing more required. He just won't perform any upgrades with Demon's Souls until you give him Flamelurker's. He can still do advanced weapon upgrades with the other stones Baldwin can't handle though.

Oh, sweet. Thanks.
Still, farming Greystone is easiest if you can start at 2-2 and go backwards.
I wonder if I should just skip the Crushing, go after the 4-1 boss, and try to make the Meat Cleaver instead.
As long as you can melee and you're tough enough the Adjudicator can't one-shot you he's one of the easiest bosses in the game. If you can use magic too, or have a weapon that does magic damage, it's even easier. The hard part at lower levels is getting to him. :P

<AtlusParker> Sorry I'm playing Pokemon and vomiting at the same time so I'm not following the conversation in a linear fashion.
Yeah the Adjudicator was kinda easy to melee down. He only has like two attacks and if you stay in close to his weakside, he pretty much never hits you.
For the guys who are finding a longer wait to help people at certain bosses, don't forget that if you've levelled up a good amount, you might be out of the range that the average player might be when they tackle that boss. I'd imagine most people do an area like 1-2 before they get too high in levels, so it might not be that fewer people are actively doing it, but that you're level gap is too big for you to help.

I can't find the 2-2 boss. I get to the end of the lava area, and the guide says to take a tunnel. But, the las tunnel I see just loops around, hits you with one of those exploding light traps, and drops you back on top of one of the other two, earlier tunnels. I see three on one side...is there another I'm not finding?
Am I supposed to walk further down the hall, through the lava? There's nowhere safe to stand on the sides, and no more islands to roll to. I tried equipping all the Brushwood gear and a flame resistance ring, but my health still disappears too fast.
Do you have to give Ed the soul every game, or is that option always unlocked once you give it to him the first time through?
Just spent a lil time here at work to drum up what I call a "Soul Level Planner".
Takes in starting stats (determines soul level from those), and "stat weights", values 0 - 5. If you want to level a particular stat quick, place a 5. Not level it at all? Enter a 0.
Another box contains your desired soul level, and the outputted primary and secondary stats if you stick with the "path" that you have chosen (again, via the "stat weights"). Output includes final stat values (obviously), HP, MP, Equip/Carry weight, magic/faith slots etc.
Works pretty good.
In order to get those secondary stats, I took the data from the wiki and found the curve fit which was most appropriate. Often, the (1 - r^2) value was well under 0.00001.
Anyway, if this interests anyone, send me a PM with a desired email address and I'll get it out to you.
Oh yea, it's a *.xlsx file, so I'm pretty sure you need Office 2007 or better.
Finished 1-1 again with Royal this time. Didn't like my Knight. Really enjoying the Royal's versatility and his Magic is pretty good. I had 10,000 souls at the end of level one, and now I'm farming the Red Eye Knight for 2000 souls a pop in 1-1. Got the Purple Dragon Shield or whatever it's called too. No dragons were to be found, which rules.
Where do people usually go from 1-1? I mean, do they just go 1-2 through 1-4 and then go to stage 2 after that?
Yes, there's an ambush by a guy with a picaxe. If you keep going straight instead of turning to the left (like you're naturally going to do) you'll find the next part of the level.

Can't. Can't enter 1-3 without killing a X-3 boss from another map.

And yes, Ed needs the soul every playthrough.
I think I'm already past that, the pickaxe guy is earlier in the level. I'm stuck in the lava area with all the bearbugs, at the very end.
And that sucks. I guess the soul's not used for anything else...

In addition to what KiTA said, people generally do 1-1 and then the other levels in whatever order they want. Like he said, the only restriction is you can't get past 1-2 until you've beaten a boss in the third level of any of the other stages, but before that you can go wherever you feel like.
EDIT: Oh, and Maneater down, whoo. My Royal was level 71 and went through him like butter.

After a request to do so, I have posted my Soul Level Planner to GoogleDocs just now. It can be found here. It's a lil slower than using Excel straight up, but will work with anyone with a web browser. No login, no nothing.
Also, I removed all of the functions that we're supported by older versions of Excel, and it is now saved as a *.xls (Excel 97+ required) for those who are interested. Just send me a PM with email address and I am more than happy to send it to you.
Edit: Wow, you all are quick. I was just playing with it on GoogleDocs, and no less than 3 other people showed up. Ok, a quick rundown on how to use it:
Spoiler'd for length
Only type in the yellow cells!
1) Input current stats
2) Input 'Stat Weights', an integer from 0 to 5
-Stat weights are how many points you want to add per X level ups
-The higher the value, the more points per X levels
-If the value is 0, no points will be added
-The value of 'X levels' is shown right beneath the weights
3) Input your desired soul level. Everything else is calculated for you.
I'll have to check back later for directions. Sometimes I'm horrible at overlooking obvious doors and paths. Like missing every single shortcut and hidden item in the first level...
You don't use the dragons' souls for anything? Weird.
Reynolds if you're good at falling you can always just take the right path. There was a video of it a couple pages ago. But yeah those tunnels are confusing. I think the route to the boss was the furthest door in the lava pool. In other words, if you are facing the doors (the lava at your back) the one furthest to the right.

No problem. I was just aiming to make myself something to help me plan out where my points were going to go; Weapon requirements,MP totals, etc... and a way to see how much XP I needed per lvl without going back to nexus >< That was really annoying.
