I was also having trouble with the complete silence of the first level...and then all of a sudden there's someone singing? *shudder*
Ugh, I've now hit the point where I need to grind up three or four stats three to five points to properly use all the spells and items I have. I've been leveling up as little as possible, so I guess that was bound to catch up with me. I have God's Wrath, and I can't cast it...
Wow. 4-1 turns into liquid bullshit once those mantas start teaming up with the golden skeletons. Jesus.
Edit: Also: A bastard sword appears to have been a mistake to turn crushing. I should have held out for a Halberd. Ah well.
do wear a thief ring? if you don't you really should. the aggro range will be small enough that most of them won't attack you. also those are the easy gold skeletons, in 4-1. the ones in 4-2 are total assrape.
Just beat the 1-2 boss last night, and now helping others so I can farm him for SOULS! Simply because I am determined to get my dex up enough to use that bow and kill that damn dragon.
Huh. Second page'd? Looks like we really are in trouble.
And just to contribute something, there are much faster ways of farming than taking on the tower knight over and over. Kudos for the public-spirited approach, though.

<AtlusParker> Sorry I'm playing Pokemon and vomiting at the same time so I'm not following the conversation in a linear fashion.
Well, I don't get any souls from killing the tower knight because for some reason, when we get him to 1/10th of the health, I get booted back into my realm. So... that sucks?
That said, what's a good place to farm - and further, what are good stats to kill that dragon in 1-2, and how many souls does he give?
What is needed to walk through the lava and collect all the items in 2-2? I equipped the ring of fire resistance and the purple flame shield. That only worked until I lowered my guard to pick up an item.
I don't have the ability to cast magic, so any other suggestions or tips?

Hehe ..."for some reason". I believe that reason is people are greedy bastards and want you to help them without sharing their souls with you. They really should make it so you can't use the white stone during a boss battle.

So 3-1 boss...
NOT killing the Dreglings worshiping the boss is a good thing. They seem to find all the paralysis runes for me. Although my first try involved me stepping on one rune, getting hit, and running for cover just to step on another that I didn't remember, and getting killed...with 15000 souls. I proceeded to fall down and die before I recovered my souls out of stupidity. That's what I get for playing too late. Easy boss, though! Talk about a slow paced battle.
Any ways, the Tower is freaking CREEPY, but I am super happy I finally got a Black Eye Stone Time for some shenanigans tonight!

AFAIK the souls aren't even split, Blue Phantoms just earn 50% of what the Player does.

I'm pretty sure this is correct. I haven't noticed any difference in soul accumulation between having the assistance of a blue phantom and running a stage by myself. If it is a case of general internet bastardom, the game has obviously grown popular enough to attract that crowd of people, enough to cater to the demographic of greedy childish assholes.
Now, I may just be one of the unfortunate, but I've been booted out of each boss fight at least once. It's a shame that my only option at that point is to pray to some unholy video game god that the player who banished me gets spontaneously raped by a sea of glitchy, omnipotent cocks.
I was warned of a black phantom at the bottom of an elevator shaft. I walked over and saw 2 of them running towards me. I immediately ran back to the elevator and went back up. Somehow that led to the 2 of them dying and granting me 2.5k souls.
Also I can't think of a good way to warn people about the giant bugbear's exploding death (I lost my body that way ).
I don't know how accurate VGChatz.com is, but they're reporting Demon's Souls sold 105,752 copies in it's first week. Which is probably 90-95% of the initial print run knowing how hard it is to find and Atlus' tendency towards small runs.

Those are decent sales numbers if true. This is the hardest of hardcore titles exclusive to the machine with the smallest install base. Certainly shows up Valkyria Chronicles from last year (which only moved 33k in its first week).
Hopefully this encourages FROM Software to make a sequel or something in a similar vein to this one.

Like Dracil said, Tower Knight seems to be a bit buggy in co-op. Just a heads up, I've had alot of issues with the 4-1 boss as well. In fact, I don't think I've ever done it co-op without at least one person dropping out.
I took the cheesy way to kill the 1-2 dragon by:
Using poison cloud on him. Poison, sit back, re-apply, sit back, watch him die.
I want to say I got about 8k souls from the kill, as well as his demon's soul, which is good for 10k (sadly, it doesn't seem to have any spell/equipment uses). I could be wrong about the 8k though.
As for farming, one thing you can do at this point is go back to the 1-3 archstone, then backtrack. Thief Ring and walking should let you sneak up on those 2 blue knights, and you can easily dispatch them with backstabs. You'll also get a good amount of grasses from them, so you're killing 2 birds with one stone. Finish up the 3 archers by the knight, stop for the gecko upstairs, and even the 2 archers on the roof, and it's a pretty quick, painless run.
World 4 gives pretty good souls for their enemies, but until you're more comfortable with rolling skeletons and whatnot, it might be better to ease into that.
5-2 is probably the first time I've felt the game was poorly designed. That whole place was a chore to get through, and not because it places you in difficult situations, but because it limits player skill by arbitrarily restraining your abilities, by way of a shitty environment. I'm down for new game+, but I'm really not looking forward to revisiting that place ever again.
Otherwise, I'm totally hooked. Though my main regret is that I just sort of wrote off the story/character dialogue during the vast majority of my playtime. "Oh yeah, ancient evil, blah blah", I thought. As I've gotten further into the game I realize what a mistake that was, as it has some extremely cool and downright depressing situations, that actually make use of game mechanics.
The lone soldier who gradually loses his mind, for instance. When I entered the nexus and found an unknown soldier's soul where he had been, I did a mental double take when I realized what had happened.
Also, the whole Yurt scenario is extremely rad, though I'm half glad I spoiled it for myself, as I don't feel like ruining my game.

How do I make these crushing, lava, dragon weapons?
I want a dragon crushing lava Halberd + 20.
If only it worked that way, haha. You only get one, erm, adjective to add to a weapon. So a Crushing weapon, sure. A dragon one, sure. But not a crushing dragon.
The first two things you'll need is to unlock Blacksmith Ed in 2-1. Next, you'll need to give him the Demon's Soul of the 2-2 boss. Then you'll just need the raw materials (shards, chunks, purestones) to make those particular lines of weapons.
Lava is only a bow, if I recall. I don't think you can have any other weapon with the Lava designation. Flame-based melee weapons are usually designated as Dragon.

Actually, you only need to give him the 2-2 boss' Demon Soul if you want to imbue certain other major Demon Souls into special weapons. Just using Ores to modify weapon types (Dragonstone, Spiderstone, etc), the Blacksmith in 2-1 can do from the start of the game, once you can get to him anyway.

Oh yeah, odd note - even if you kill Vanguard in the Tutorial, he's still there on 4-1 and obviously has a tougher hide. Another soul from the fatty? Don't mind if I do!
I bought this game today even though I don't have a PS3, because once I get a PS3 I wanted to have this game to play.
I made a good decision, right?
I am remiss to admit the number of Atlus games I've purchased without the intent of playing them immediately is more than one (more than a few PS2 titles). They're notorious for falling off the face of the earth after the first week.

Yes - Atlus games have a very short shelf-life in stores. Finding them used is easier, but not necessarily always possible. And considering the amount of press and good reviews this game is getting, you made an exceptional choice.

Alright, due to popular demand (ok, a few people asked, and I'd rather do this than actually work today...) I totally started over on the whole "Soul Level Planner" thing.
It's now really easy to use. The idea is that you pick up a shield, say, and it requires 22 str, which you don't have. Put 22 in the "desired stats" field. It'l tell you what Slvl you have to be to use that item, and how much total XP it will take to get there. You can do this with just one, or all stats simultaneously. Stuff's highlighted to show what you aren't meeting yet. Also shows secondary stats of your desired stats; i.e. HP, MP, carry weight, equip weight, magic slots, etc. All of these equations / values were taken from the stats page of the wiki.
It also includes an upgrade chart to see which stones do what (incl stat bonuses, special damage types, and the +weapon_lvl to start that upgrade path)
Finally, it includes an upgrade tracker, which can hold what is required for the next upgrade, and what stones you have. This page also includes locations to find every stone type form the wiki. Yes, I typed all that crap in. Like I said, I'd rather do that than work today. I'm just not feeling motivated.
Those who have already sent me an email address, I'm resending this out in a few minutes to each of you individually.
Those who haven't, and want it, PM me an email address, and I'm more than happy to email it out to you.
If you'd rather just check it out online, it can be found up on google docs here.
Edit: Apparantly you can download it from GoogleDocs as well. Just to to the "File" menu, and "Download As"... Then pick whatever. Native is Excel (obviously).
So I heard this soulsucker spell can be used in PvP to steal soul levels. Is it easy to dodge? I know it costs a lot to cast, but I wonder how useful (or spiteful) it may be.

Here's a tip for those of you who can't find it at GameStop: go to Amazon. GS didn't order nearly enough, and sold out really quickly. Amazon wisely ordered a whole lot more.
