I like the fact that you can't pause, in a weird way. It's like you're walking through a hostile environment in real life, and you don't have a pause in real life. That's why time still goes on when you're looking into your backpack and changing weapons. It is harsh, but it feel "realistic". But it's all in flavour of the game, that simply wants to teach you that you're fighting for your life here.
Make a mistake when fighting an enemy -> you die
Looking in your backpack while in a dangerous spot -> you die
But yes, if the game wasn't so damn addictive, you wouldn't be holding your pee way longer than you should
Just be very careful when putting your controller down when you want to go to the toilet. I've heard many stories of people accidentally Meat Cleavering Stockpile Thomas because their controller fell on the floor
Little question : Can you cast Poison Cloud and Death Cloud at the same time on an enemy? I want to tackle Selen Vinland Black Phantom, and I was thinking : can't I cast Poison and Death Cloud at the same time so that her health goes down more quickly? Especially with Death Cloud, because healing would be limited then.
Yes poison and death cloud will stack. Though it is a pain to catch her with both as much as she loves spamming AMF. Not sure if she has the cleanse miracle but I seem to remember using dots on her with out her curing. Though probly the most important thing about fighting her is getting to dry ground where you can dodge her unblockable blade and keeping the preasure on as long as you save some stamina to evade.
As for the guards of latria. Not sure what all weapons this will work with. Playing a mage I found getting up close and personal with them easier than having a mage duel with them. Using a falchion I was able to stager them with two hand stance weak blows. Makes them into chumps.
My Royalty used to R2 heavy attack the Mind Flayers from behind with a +4 Dragon Longsword, which pretty much one shot them.
My Temple Knight runs up behind them and starts a heavy attack with the Meat Cleaver, it's so slow that they usually end up turning around just in time to have the huge blade come down right on their head... which also one shots them. For the BP Mind Flayers, they have a little bit of health left, but I just time it to hit them as they get back up to finish them off.
I finally beat Phalanx after a few days of constantly dying in 1-1. I didn't have any fire so it took me a long time to finish. I think I might play through 1-1 until I get enough souls to use all the equipment I have. I lost something like 5000 souls after I opened the gate to the boss, so when I finally beat him I think I ended up with around 2000 instead of the 7000 I could have had.
I probably died about 100 times, which seems kind of high, but I'm having fun still.

I find it fairly astounding that after that many times through 1-1 you didn't end up with any Turpentine? For that matter, I'm pretty sure there's some placed on a body shortly after the dragon bridge, so you should've gotten at least 2 or 3. As it is, those bastards with the flaming daggers drop it fairly often, and if you had to keep going through the first shortcut you would've had to kill a ton of them.

There are also dudes who drop firebombs, although they are not as good as turpentine.
When I first got to Phalanx I had two flasks of turpentine. I was killed in the attempts in which I used them.
I used the fire bombs as I played through the level because I didn't know the boss would be weak to fire.
Since I lost all of my souls I didn't feel like trying to grind for them to buy firebombs, so I just fought and killed him without fire.
The boss door is right where you start, and when I did it, there were huge numbers of "use fire on this enemy" messages. Wait, are you playing offline? Don't do that.
I do play online, but I had no idea what those messages were referring to. I didn't know that portcullis opened up to the boss fight until it happened.
3-3 difficulty can really depend on who invades you. I think that the NPC is harder than most players in NG+. The invader I fought on my first NG was probably a dude trying to help his friends. He really didn't put up too big of a fight. Granted, you can get the dudes looking to invade for the boss fight, but it isn't so bad.
Bah, got flamelurker down to about 25% health then he jumps all over the damn place and I couldn't really keep up having a safe distance and hitting him with soul rays. Thinking I should go back to soul arrow so I don't have to use spice as often.
Yo doods, I'm looking to get my World 1 WT up so's I can murder the Executioner Miralda and steal her armor for my female knight. Any tips on doing so? I've already killed the 1-1, 1-2, and dragon bosses. Will killing invading BPs up my WT, or is there another way to do it?

Killing the 1-1 and 1-2 bosses should be enough to get you to pure white world tendency.
Have you died in body form in world 1? If you have then you might need to kill the 1-3 boss. Make sure you're always in soul form when in world 1.
There are rumors that killing BPs will help very slighty, but I wouldn't put any trust in that. Check out the unofficial wiki from the OP for info on what changes world tendency (and how much).

One option, strange as it might be and assuming you can get to 1-3, would be to get world 1 to PBWT, then kill BP Miralda, do not go back to the Nexus, make your way all the way into 1-3 and kill the primeval demon there. *Then* go back to the Nexus and come back to 1-3, you should then be in WWT, if you then beat the boss of 1-3, you'd be in PWWT.
Killing a named BP and killing a primeval demon are both +3 to WT, so if you kill them both before going back to the Nexus, you end up at +2 from PBWT (which is -4) and then killing the boss puts you to +3 for PWWT.

Killing invading black phantoms helps a lot, for both world and character tendency.

'course you can only engage BP invaders as in body form and if you lose you'll take a hit to your WT. It's a bit of a risk unless you're well prepared for PVP since a good amount of the time the invader will be PVP spec'd.

When you are in soul form, does helping a player in body form kill a boss net you white tendency in any way?
When should I start trying to figure out the world tendency/character tendency stuff? Because I've read a little about it, and it really seems confusing as hell. Maybe once I see it in action it will make more sense to me.

Sooner the better, really. I never toyed with it until that Black Tendency weekend they did for Halloween, and now I love it.
It's also the only way to Platinum the game, as there are several items you can only get in Pure Black/White. Black Tendency helps with farming crafting materials and souls as well.

No, because you're in their world at that point.
Are you sure?
I'm pretty sure it helps a little. Or maybe that's just with Character Tendency...I forget.
I've been away from this game for a while playing other things so I'm little foggy on all the details.

Yeah, sorry, I meant invading BPs not the named ones and was only talking about world, not character tendency. I agree that it's not worth it unless you're really into PVP.
I've played through the game 3 times now and due to a deleted save file (don't drink and game..the square is too close to the x) I'm doing a NG run offline to completely control world and character tendency for the plat.
Invading is... too. much. fun. I think I spent 3 hours tonight doing it. I spent 30 min waiting for someone to invade me in 1-4 and no one came. So I got frustrated and started invading. Ending the night with 250K from juicy juicy blue phantoms. One dude would keep disconnecting every time he started to lose. It was pretty blatant because he would run forward, stop, and then leave the world.
Honesty though. Meat Cleaver is the most broken weapon for PvP. If you hold it in two hands and do a roll attack, you are invincible for the entire time (minus the half second between rolls).
I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.

Yup, that's my problem, killed those bosses but I've died in body form in there, so I'm not at PWWT. I guess I can kill the 1-3 boss, but that level is hard as fuck, so I was trying to get Miralda's white armor before having to deal with that. Ah well.
In other news, I beat 4-2 last night, finally. I farmed the reapers for a bit, got back to body form, and just blew through that level. The boss was probably the easiest I've faced, just took it slow and steady and he never laid a finger on me. Now it's off to 4-3 and 3-2....

Argh on my 3rd cycle I cleared 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3 without dying and was on the verge of killing Allant. He pulled off a God's Wrath and I didn't have space to run from it, but I survived thanks to Second Chance. Then he casts another immediately and I try to run past him but I couldn't run out of range, so my no-death streak in the 3rd cycle was broken.
And of COURSE I had to lose that 200+k bloodstain by rolling and falling to my death while trying to dodge a Fat Official's Flame Toss.
Just played it online for the first time today. Became a blue phantom in 4-1 a bunch. Saw some host with a leather shield which was weird. I guess he was roleplaying since anyone still SL~35 must be an alt. But he also nearly got killed by a trap that killed me on my first time as a blue phantom where the arrows come from behind.
One time I made it right before the boss and the session ended as we were engaging that skeleton. Finally I joined a guy and we made it to the boss and I felt really useless since the only thing I was hurting him with was my pissant fire spray spell. At least I distracted him some. My first time through I want to control my WT towards white so I'll stay in phantom form and I'll be more natural in NGplus.

You don't need to run from god's wrath. Hitting him with just about anything including magic, arrows, or melee will cancel it. Sometimes it takes me two hits but only when I just graze him for very low damage.

So walking into the monk boss with 80 magic, ring of magical sharpness, monks headwrap, kriss blade, and setting off a firestorm right away is the ticket. Only had to hit it twice to kill the BP. I was really surprised he survived the first blast for 700dmg. Stupid Vit stackers! :P

Yay. Also, I just really want to say I wasn't expecting just how much fun and how many souls I would get being a blue phantom.
