Could someone direct me to a good program for keeping my addons up to date? I tried the curse client but was not very happy with it. I guess I still miss the days of wowaceupdater. Any suggestions would really make my life easier.

The Curse client is your best option at this point. What don't you like about it? Overall it's a fairly decent package, and even when you have to update a dozen addons on patch days it doesn't take THAT long to update everything...

Mine shits itself when I plug USB devices into my laptop. To get it to work have to remove my docking station, restart the laptop, then run Curse client for updates, then plug the docking station (with my speakers, keyboard, etc) back in (which causes the client to crash), and play until I want to look for more updates.

I made a bug for this but it was pretty much ignored.

Is there any way to stop SBF from constantly reordering my buffs/debuffs? All three of my frames (long-term buffs, buffs, and debuffs) do this despite having no sort ordering set, and setting one doesn't seem to help. Is it because all three of them have filters?

Also UI gurus, how do I get my grid to look like this: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/1135/wowscrnshot032810005951.jpg

My grid looks like something out of 1950s Russia.
In the layout submenu, found in the options. It's not easy to find, IIRC, but keep looking.

    Are you sure that's grid?

If it is grid, he's got it heavily modified and I think there are probably 2 addons complementing it. One is likely gridmanabars but I've never tried to configure it to show horizontally.

Here's what I do with mine and it should get you started with how to go about customizing it. I use a resto druid so my guide is centered on hot management.

    Prerequisites to this guide:

    Install:

    1) Grid

    2) GridManaBars

    3) GridSideIndicators

    4) GridStatusHots

    /grid configure

    Frame

    >Advanced:
    >>Check Enable Center Text 2 Indicator
    >>Font: ABF
    >>Font Size: 10
    >>Frame Width: 30 (I prefer mine skinny)

    Layout:

    >Check Horizontal Groups (group 1 top row, etc)
    >Padding: 0
    >Spacing: 10 (default)
    >Scale: 1.5 (or to taste)

    >Left Side
    >>Buff: My Rejuvenation (or equivalent powerful hot)
    >Right Side
    >>Buff: My Wild Growth (or equivalent powerful hot)

    Status:

    Buff: Hot Count
Count Lifebloom as 1 HoT per stack
    Buff: My Lifebloom
Color (Fresh color) Changed to a cyan color, (no good reason).
    Color 2 (as-is: Yellow)
Color 3 Changed to orange (warning color for all hots)
    Buff: My Regrowth
Color (Fresh color) Changed to a Green-Yellow, like the Regrowth icon color.
    Color 2 (as-is: Yellow)
Color 3 Changed to orange (warning color for all hots)
    Buff: My Rejuvenation
Color (Fresh color) Changed to a purple color, like the Rejuv icon color.
    Color 2 (as-is: Yellow)
Color 3 Changed to orange (warning color for all hots)
    Buff: My Wild Growth
Color (Fresh color) Changed to a purple color, like the Rejuv icon color.
    Color 2 (as-is: Yellow)
Color 3 Changed to orange (warning color for all hots)
    Conclusion:

You can tinker with this further, and adapt it to any healer class, but always remember a few crucial principles when modifying Grid:

First, keep things simple. I use the same warning colors because I know based on positioning, which hot is which. I don't need to use 12 colors when 6 will suffice.

Also, I only use red for the aggro corner. As a healer, knowing who has agro means knowing who is likely to need heals in the immediate future. Ditto for Debuffs; why would I use three corners for debuffs and the second text line? Because I can cleanse only 50% of them - the other 2 types I have to heal through. The two types I can cleanse, I damn well better, because it is almost always more mana efficient to remove them than heal through them.

If a particular configuration tweak isn't going to definitely help keep people alive, it probably doesn't belong on your Grid.

    Greetings UI Thread!

This weekend I took it upon myself to re-do my UI. I went with everlUI. This is pretty out of date, but I figured I could adapt it to my needs. I'm now at a point where I have a functioning UI (after much updating, and taking textures off that were severly slowing my fps down). I've healed five mans and BG's pretty well. However, I am disconnecting randomly. I assume it's an addon, but I don't know which. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a addon that could either tell me if some addon is doing excessive spam, causing me to log out or maybe pop some advice in.

This past weekend most of my play time was late at night (after 10pm PST usually until about 6am, so it wasn't peak times). The disconnects happened mostly in BG's (which makes me think a addon problem, probably something combat log related?) which is where I spent the majority of my time. However, I would still disconnect idling in Dalaran or when I was doing my daily dungeon.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I've been using grid for a while now, mostly to assist with healing. However, when I switch from my shaman to my rogue or warrior, I find it very annoying that the range check stops working entirely. Am I missing something in the configuration menu or is grid unable to range check with certain classes?

Man, kgPanels is way more powerful than I imagined. I figured it was just like eepanels but newer, just for fancy ui art, but it has full on scripting, so you can do all kinds of absurd crazy shit. Custom made buttons and fully interactive UI elements. Nuts.

Been fiddling about thinking about a new UI if I start playing again. And looking into how people have done more ambitious stuff like http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info16068-RealUIBeta.html is highly enlightening. The person who made this UI has done crazy shit like multi-layer panels with hi-light layers that show on mouseover, and then have scripts so they toggle the display of damage meters or chatlogs. Hand built custom interface elements.

Why oh why can't the default UI show you how far ahead you are on threat when you have aggro (i.e., when you're the tank). I don't need Omen when I'm playing as DPS since the built-in threat indicator is just as good, but it sucks playing a tank and only being able to see 100% red (you've got aggro! how much more? who knows!) or 100% orange (someone is about to pull aggro!).

Thats correct, its made a world of difference in my ability to manage AOE tanking, (or cry in frustration when I can very methodically witness something I can do nothing about).

Also, when set to DPS Mode this addon will act in reverse, large red plates when you do have aggro and small green plates when you don't. It can even show who has aggro if you configure it properly.

Then it's simply not named. You can try going up its parent hierarchy though, to try to find one that is named.

    /run local i, f = 1, GetMouseFocus() while f do print(i, f:GetName()); i = i + 1; f = f:GetParent(); end

Hm, that's really not giving much information. You can try this:

    /run local i, f = 1, GetMouseFocus() while f do local c = "" if f:GetName()==nil then for j,v in ipairs({f:GetChildren()}) do c=c .. (v:GetName() or tostring(v)) .. ", " end end print(i, f:GetName(), c); i = i + 1; f = f:GetParent(); end

This prints the names of all children of the element at each level of the parent hierarchy. However, it's likely that whatever addon is doing this simply isn't naming its elements. This is a pretty common practice, since there's no real reason to name them. What you might have to do is disable half of your addons and see if it goes away, and that way you know which half is causing the problem. You can narrow it down.

Elimination by halves should get you down to it very quickly no matter how many addons you have.

    eg. assuming 100 addons:

    50
    25
    12
    6
    3
    1

    5 minutes?
