Keep in mind that if you idle and either not die or do it as a spectator you can build up more items than is possible to hold in an empty backpack. It's entirely possible that he idled long enough to get two hats (or just got lucky) and felt like keeping the Razorbacks for whatever reason. I routinely discard the items from the popup instead of selecting them from the backpack and deleting them.
