I know, I was trying to say that this fall is still looking far better than most in recent memory, even with the delays (<3 AP)
Seriously. One console just got 2 of the best games yet released for the system as exclusives, Bioware has an RPG which I suspect will be amazing hitting later this month, CoD has another major title coming out which is likely to be as addictive online as its predecessor, and then you've got quite a few "smaller" titles coming out for PC and various consoles.
It's hardly a drought. Hell, counting pre-orders for L4D2 and DA, I've spent something like $200+ on games in the last week or two.

So is there going to be 10% off on Steam pre-orders or not? Cause if not, GoGamer has it for $39.90 + shipping and that's where I'd grab it.

Off topic but... which two games? I'm assuming Uncharted 2 is one, but what's the other?
So, I really, really want this game, but I'm unsure if my PC can handle it (I have a 360 too, but I'd rather get it for the pc...). My laptop's got the following hardware (and Vista):
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2,4 Ghz
4gb Ram
That should be good enough to at least run it with the minimum specs, right? My biggest worry is the graphics card...

Should be able to play at medium settings, with some options turned up or down depending on what resolution you will be playing at.
Just finished The Stolen Throne. The story was meh, but I enjoyed the world and bits of lore. I think the writing was better than the Karpyshyn Mass Effect book I read. Gaider's info-dumps were not as blatant. It was a decent enough book, for a video game tie-in.
I liked the Calling a lot better. Stolen Throne
went from decently chipper to goddamn DARK at the drop of an elf. The Calling starts gloomy and then gets worse.
The PC gamer UK review was by John Walker, he's a very respectable journalist and one of the guys who created Rockpapershotgun. If you listen to their podcasts you'll hear a LOT of skepticism about the game from John about the demos at E3, the trailers, etc. The fact that I know he was so skeptical about it, not thinking it looked very good, and then giving it a fantastic review makes me think that it was hugely misrepresented by the marketing and demos, and that it's going to be a great.

Another thing that makes this review credible to me is how much time he spent with the game. How often do reviewers play a game for 80 hours (or 120 in Desslock's case) these days?
BG1 is fucking great and I will personally murder, rape and piss on the beheaded necks of all motherfuckers who dare disagree.
After four turns of missing with your crossbows of course.
EDIT: PC Gamer UK was the best gaming magazine ever. I used to read it around the 90's. It was so damn great. PCZone was funny too.
Fixed that for you.
I'd take the PCGUK with a pinch of salt too. Wait till someone decent like Eurogamer reviews it.
Eurogamer? The guys who gave Planescape: Torment a 7/10? How about no?
Yes I realize that was years ago and they probably have a completely different staff now but damn.
Whoa... whoa.
A 7/10?
I actually liked Eurogamer. Not anymore.
That ranks right up there with Pitchfork's 2/10 for the Fragile.
Such heresy will not be forgotten.

Just curious, but where does Amazon offer the $10 gift card for preordering the game? I'm not seeing that. Also, is this something they do for all preorders, or just DA:O? I think I've heard of this before.

They applied it to a few video games this fall. It's just a $10 gift certificate when you pay, so you won't get it until the day they ship it.
I'm having a hard time deciding where to get this game.
I'm also having to use every ounce of my will to fight installing a moded Bauldur's Gate Trillogy back on my computer in anticipation. There's still a couple NPCs I haven't had a romance with yet and Sword Coast Strategems keeps the game very tactical (and hard) every run through. =X

You know it's funny how everyone has forgotten about Assassin's Creed 2.

Its not like I actually have tons of free time in the air force over here. :P
It's more of avoiding it due to current game backlog. =x
It was mostly just EGM saying Assassin's Creed sucked, and then some minor publications hopped on the "edgy" bandwagon. EGM also gave GTA4 a 10, which caused me to realize their reviewers were working with a definition of fun very different from mine.

God I want to play BG2 again. Do you think my boss will accept "nostalgia" as an excuse to take off work

If you plan to buy games from amazon, they're slightly cheaper at $47+$10 Video game credit. Plus free shipping (and potentially no tax).
Could I apply that $10 promo code to a WoW time card on amazon?
It should. Or at least the $5 credit I have from uncharted 2 looks like it does.
I paid 54.99€ which is still way more but maybe they just wanted to balance the prices?
I had thought just 5 bucks more for a bunch more stuff was a pretty good price.

We have to know just how hard we're going to buy this game we were going to buy anyway.
I mean right now I'm going to buy it "So hard" but if it gets like an average around 8 out of 10 then I'll probably only buy it "Kinda hard".
There is a very distinct difference in the two.

But after AC1 I can't blame them...
I haven't forgotten, but it's definitely going to be a rental or a bargain bin purchase for me.

You mean http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/assassinscreed?q=assassin%27s%20creed
Which got a 79 Metacritic rating and a generally favourable review from Mr "I hate video games" Yatzee?
Yeah. But that really doesn't change my personal opinion of the game...so...
So... your post was the very definition of redundant then? Or what?
I haven't forgotten about AC2. It's going to outsell most games this fall season.
