[RECOMMEND ME] X360 Games My Wife Might Like

edited October 2009 in Games and Technology
I looked through 10 pages of thread titles and didn't see anything that resembled this.

I'm not really a big fan of console gaming, but my wife just suggested that it might be a good time to pick up an Xbox360. And any excuse to get my wife more into gaming receives an automatic and enthusiastic 'yes' vote from me.

So now I need some help with putting together a list of games she might enjoy. The idea is to find games that we can play together. My skill ceiling is much higher than hers and my learning curve is much steaper, so co-op multiplayer would be more fun than h2h would be (but bots would make h2h more appealing). Single-player games aren't out of the question, but they'd either have to have obvious places where we could switch off or they'd have to have a heavy puzzle element to them.

She's an extremely casual gamer. So any game with more than a moderate learning curve probably isn't going to fly. Also, any game that requires you to remember a whole crapload of stuff won't interest her either (ie fighting games, RTSs, and I doubtful about any RPGs). She's not really interested in a challenge. She just wants to have fun. Here's the extremely brief list of games that have previously kept her interest.

Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Resident Evil
Silent Hill (moreso than RE)
Tomb Raider
Spyro the Dragon

Spyro and Tomb Raider we'd take turns playing. These are probably the most fun we've had gaming together. RE and Silent Hill I mostly played and she just watched and helped me figure out the puzzles. We played alot of Goldeneye back in school with my roommates, but it isn't nearly as fun with just the two of us. And we had alot of fun with Perfect Dark mostly playing co-op through the story or co-op multiplayer against bots.

So recommend away! Thanks!

Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero strike me as the most obvious; it's the game my wife is most interested in playing with me, if she's ever in a game-playing mood.

Regarding Tomb Raider, I'd definitely check out Tomb Raider Legend and Anniversary, as they're pretty cheap nowadays; I also liked Underworld enough that I'd suggest it, but it got kind of a mixed reception. My wife also likes watching me play games like this from time to time, so I know exactly what you mean. She also watches me when I play Mirror's Edge and Prince of Persia.

If she is the type who would like a co-op FPS or quasi-FPS, you might want to look into Gears of War or Halo 3, which have split-screen 2-player co-op through the whole campaign IIRC. And if you're into RPGs at all, I'm pretty sure Tales of Vesperia can be played two-player co-op all of the time.

My wife and I enjoy playing Katamari together. The co-op mode isn't exactly great, it's actually kind of hard. We just take turns doing the levels.

She will go first to explore the level. Then I will go and she will navigate, and point out cousin and present locations. Then she will go again once we unlock the eternal modes.

    Good times.

The Maw is a mainly puzzly 3D platformer on XBLA that I can imagine she might like if she liked Spyro.

    Seconding Rock Band 2.

Larger initial investment than other games but it will last you miles longer than anything else.

Also RE5 can be played local coop.

My wife is a puzzle freak so she plays alot of Tetris and Dr. Mario...as those are her favorites.

Hexic is another favorite of hers.

Mainly we play Guitar Hero 5/World Tour and Rock Band 1/2. These are what she plays most with me as we can all play as a family, her, I, and our daughter...so yea. Music games are pretty awesome that way.

Peggle XBLA is a good enough version of Peggle to play, the only downside is the loss of mouse control.

If she likes puzzles she should get puzzle quest.

Downside is you may never see her again.

Yeah, for me it was way too slow paced, but that's because I like my platformers fast. From the sounds of things, your wife might really like it.

Like all XBLA games, there is a free demo, should be enough to give her a good idea of whether it is for her.

Finding something the wife will play is deceitful to the heart due to her being difficult to gauge... What has worked great for us are...

    Marvel Alliance
    Earth Defense Force 2017
    Samurai/Dynasty Warriors

... Those are probably your best bets, we have spent countless hours in those games together....

Also Omega Five got some good playtime; what about Castlevania SotN?

My wife also liked Zuma, and Feeding Frenzy…. I also bought the 10$ Solitaire game (I die a little inside knowing I bought that for her). She really liked Lost Odyssey for the story and characters, I have yet to find another rpg she will play.

Also, from the same people who created The Maw is 'Splosion Man, which has been my favourite XBLA game this year. It's a 2-D platformer with a great sense of humour and only one button to remember (hint: it makes your character 'splode.) Oh, and it's co-op.

The LEGO games (Star Wars, Indy Jones, Batman, etc.) are always a good time for co-op gaming, and are extrememly casual-friendly.

I'm in the same boat. My wife doesn't like many games, but there are some out there. She really enjoys Peggle (and can consistently kick my ass at it), she loved Viva Pinata for a while (but then it became more of a game for my kids), and for some reason she had to have Brutal Legend (though I think that's more because she gets a kick out of Jack Black than anything).

So, chalk up my votes for Peggle and Viva Pinata. She also liked Braid right up until then end...

I can't figure out for the life of me why Microsoft hasn't jacked an idea and come out with Avatar Crossing. My wife and I loved the hell of AC on GCN, and I have zero compulsion to get a Wii.

I wouldn't recommend Beautiful Katamari. The difficulty level is jacked up too high to be appealing to a casual gamer, and there's not enough game/too many DLC levels.

Besides Rock Band and Guitar Hero again, I think Bomberman Live on XBLA is an instant party-making machine.
