And forget you both, 360 and Wii both have fantastic libraries. :x
Oh, I'm sure. And while I just don't find the Wii and it's library to be compelling enough to actually buy the system, I sure wouldn't seriously post that people who like it have odd tastes or something. Even to go so far as to bash an entire culture.
Agreed. I don't understand the crap that gets thrown around the interwebs. Let people play what they enjoy gal dernnit! :x
That's why I love you guys, very little of that goes on around here, unless there is a measure of humor to it.
Never Hurts to take a break from games. Outside of Brutal Legend in 15-30 minute spurts, I've barely played a single game over the last month.
I haven't ben playing much due to school. It isn't like people who like movies constantly watch movies.
I haven't even been that busy. Just haven't felt like it. Probably going to sit down and replay Phantom Hourglass in preparation for Spirit Tracks soon though.
Havent actually played A Boy and his Blob, but I do plan to add it to the handful of western games I've played someday. I say that about a lot of things though, it may not actually happen.
I've been playing a lot of PS1/64 and reading a lot lately. Its possible that I'm close to being done with gaming.
I did the same thing during "last gen". Nothing got my hopes up too much.
Iphone game developer Storm8 exploited an "electronic backdoor" to learn the phone numbers of players, according to a class action lawsuit filed in San Francisco.
Filed on behalf of Lynnwood, WA resident Michael Turner, the suit claims that the practice is not authorized by Apple and involves the execution of "malicious software code."
"Storm8 has written the software for all its games in such a way that it automatically accesses, collects, and transmits the wireless telephone number of each iPhone user who downloads any Storm8 game," the suit alleges. " ... Storm8, though, has no reason whatsoever to access the wireless phone numbers of the iPhones on which its games are installed."
Storm8 makes popular multiplayer games such as iMobsters and Vampires Live, available in both free and paid versions for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Its titles allow players to spend money in-game to acquire better weapons and other competitive advantages.
The number farming was not disclosed to players until an acknowledgement in August that described it as a "bug." The lawsuit claims that only "very specific and specialized software code" could do so, however, and seeks injunctive relief and damages.
It's cool, I don't watch Arrested Development or Lost either, I just have them in my sig and avatar to show support for American television.
Arrested Development
I still love that you folks introduced me to that genius of a show.
...
If you promise to finally watch The Powerpuff Girls Rule, I promise to switch back to my Mojo Jojo avatar.
Ok, you got a deal.
I'll watch it this weekend.
How will you know? You planning on testing me on the episode? :P
I'll ask you this question:
What sliver of the 1980s does the episode gloriously ruin? (When you see the episode, there's no way to miss this. The extended sequence caused me to just about hurt myself laughing.)
What sliver of the 1980s does the episode gloriously ruin? (When you see the episode, there's no way to miss this. The extended sequence caused me to just about hurt myself laughing.)
Is it as funny as the extended sequence in the Power Puff Girls Movie where they continually quote Van Halen songs?

Sales for the period were $1.92 billion, a decrease of 9.5 percent year-on-year. The company swung to a net loss for the half, posting a loss $67.22 million, down from a profit last year of $14.24 million.
he top-selling game during the half was the kid-friendly licensed game Ben 10 Alien Force, released in Europe and the U.S. The multiplatform game sold 480,000 units during the period.
Afro Samurai on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was the second best selling game during the half with 420,000 sold across the U.S. and Europe during the period, which does not include sales during the January-March quarter when the game originally shipped.
Tales of Vesperia for Xbox 360 and PS3 sold 410,000 units across the U.S. and Europe to become the third best-selling game during the half. While the title originally shipped last year on Xbox 360 in North America and Japan, the European Xbox 360 version launched in August this year, and the PS3 version launched in Japan in mid-September.
Namco Bandai shipped 8.36 million units of software during the half, down from 8.9 million units a year prior. In all, Namco Bandai, which released Tekken 6 in the third fiscal quarter, said it expects to sell 25.7 million software units this year, up from last year's 23.39 million units.
For the full year, Namco Bandai expects to generate sales of $4.45 billion this year, down from last year's $4.75 billion. Annual net income is projected to be $94.62 million, down from $131.68 million a year ago.
Man, Namco Bandai just haven't released much of note lately.
Ultimately, it isn't as if they have much to release. Tekken, Soul Calibur, the Tales series... And after the merger with Bandai, a crapload of tie-in games to Super Monkey Death Car manga and anime. It only goes so far. Everything else they try to do is usually corrupted by ambivalence.

Yeah, I had a lot of trouble playing games a month or two back simply because I had assignment after assignment to do. Now though, I'm home free until March but I suppose I should get a job...
Anyway, I'm not sure how anyone could survive on just Japanese games this generation. Sure, last generation there was a steady stream of great games coming out of Japan but these days? I'm lucky if there's a really good looking one coming out every 3 months. It's pretty sad really.
I kind of hope Tony Hawk Ride does well, just because one of the best bands in Pittsburgh is on the soundtrack (The Modey Lemon). Those dudes deserve to get paiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid
wait, the bands don't get residual royalties, right? They just get paid for the rights to use the song as a one off thing...
No idea. even if they don't, it could be big exposure.

The new DBZ looks good. But I don't know what kind of sales that series usually pulls in.

Enough that they keep making DBZ games... In Namco's case, it's a bit like landing the Madden franchise. Not the NFL, Madden.
Trials developer RedLynx has admitted that in order to market its PC title it leaked it to torrent sites for pirates on the same day it was released to paying consumers.
The pirated version of the game does not include support for leaderboards, said company CEO Tero Virtala, a crucial feature that is the "soul" of the game. Without it, he hoped users of the hacked version would want to upgrade to the legitimate copy once they began enjoying the game.
"Piracy is here, so how can we take advantage of that? What we did actually, on day one, we put that game immediately on all the torrent networks ourselves," revealed Virtala, during a panel discussion at Develop Liverpool yesterday.
"That game relies really heavily on the server side – the leaderboards are the soul of the game. I don't know if it's helped, I'd assume so because even though the version that we put on the torrent networks wasn't the full version, it's the version of the game without the actual soul, without the leaderboards to play against other players."
Virtala said that the game has sold close to 150,000 copies since it was launched 18 months ago. "When we compare that hacked version with those who have access to leaderboards and are accessing our servers they match. So at least people have not cracked out leaderboards yet," he added.
During the same discussion, Torsten Reil of NaturalMotion expressed his frustrations at the amount of piracy for the company's iPhone title Backbreaker – despite the game being sold at the lowest possible price point on Apple's App Store.
"We know anecdotally that even at 59p a lot of people have pirated the game," he said. "At 59p it's pretty fair to assume that a lot of those pirates would have been able and would have bought the game, but there's an overall attitude that it's fine to pirate."
While technology can be employed to hinder piracy of games on all formats, Reil said that it's just as important to try and change the attitude that content should be free for consumers.
"There is in general a feeling that IP and content should be free. That's fine to say, but if you have to pay all the people that actually put their heart and soul into a game – who have to pay a mortgage off and have children – it becomes much more difficult. Yes, you can limit [piracy] with technical tricks, but there needs to be an overall change in the perception of IP and the people who create it."
...
They do know most pirates probably don't give two shits about leaderboards, right?

Well, just counting from the last few months into the next few:
September --> 428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya (You've probably never heard of it, but it got a 40/40 in Famitsu)
Tales of Vesperia
October --> Ninja Giaden Sigma 2
Bayonetta
November --> 3D Dot Heroes
December --> Final Fantasy XII
Janurary --> Last Rebellion
So, does this make it legal to download it from the torrent sites, since they put it there?
I'd love to try it out before I put out money for it.
From a legal standpoint it would probably hurt their attempts to prosecute pirates.
Fortunately it seems like they've realized that prosecuting pirates has pretty much zero effect on fighting piracy, so that's not particularly important.
So Amazon is matching Wal-Marts 100 dollar store credit with purchase of an 360 Arcade offer, in line with them price matching nearly every good deal Wal-Mart has.
As there are very low margins on console hardware, and since everybody is going to be too focused on trying to get in on this deal to purchase any games with it, I wonder if Microsoft has anything to do with this. After all, there was a huge console ban wave recently, and the arcade would be the perfect model for pirates to stick their existing hard drive into.

I just think they hated being #3 and are taking drastic measures before the holidays to make people buy their shit.

WOOO!! My wife got my mother-in-law to stand in line this morning at WalMart to grab a 360 for me! And I know my friend is going to get me Borderlands. Today is an awesome day! (especially since my wife is terrible at keeping things from me until Christmas, so I'll be getting the 360 I'm sure tonight after she gets home from work, or maybe tomorrow.) :P
Where's the slash signal for great games I should look into? I've played Borderlands and Castle Crashers. Need ideas.

ToV is a pretty great game, Gravija. Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks! I can add some to my wish list now. I gotta get a Live Gold account now too so I can play with a friend of mine and everyone here on the forums.
Oh, does any bluetooth headset pair up with the 360 or do I have to get an official wired/wireless one?
I don't think the 360 supports bluetooth. If you want the wireless headset, you have to get the one MS makes. ($45-60)
Ugh, I'll stick with a wired one. I think my friend has a spare he could let me use since I don't think the Arcade comes with one. It comes with internal memory now, right? No more memory cards? May pick one up to store my profile on so I can just grab it and go if I'm going over friends house for some Rock Band or something.

Ha, welcome to the fold. I did the same thing when I semi-impulse bought my 360 Core when it was clearanced out at Sears for $200. You can easily find a used 20GB hard drive on eBay or somewhere for like $40 or $50 now, and it's worth the investment to try demos, install games and load up on XBLA games. Definitely check out Rez HD, Braid, Geometry Wars 2, Shadow Complex and Splosion Man, but there are dozens of great XBLA games and they all have free demos.
Also check out CAG, since you can usually find Live Gold subs on sale for $40 or even $30 at good times.

It's really tough luck that all their games had this same bug. What are the chances?
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
Are you implying foul play?
Because a program deliberately seeking out and transmitting phone numbers is clearly a bug.
Clearly.
