I really need to practice more with ryu... I have a really bad habit whenever i play ryu, to throw out a DP as soon as i have two meters and ultra... although it does work more times than not. I'm not sure if its my reaction time or that im not used to it, but i have a pretty hard time punishing whiffed pokes with ryus sweep...
So you're saying you have a bad habit of playing like most Ryus online?

Depends whos poking you really, but yeah Id say only throw out dp fadcs when desperate or when guessing for a tick throw. Unless your Daigo, building meter isn't so easy with Ryu as lets say, Gen ( ). You can surprise a lot of people with charching up focus then quickly just dashing in for a sweep or medium kick combo.

First, to absolutely avoid jumping in as a form of offense. Instead, only jump in when absolutely safe or for a clear combo, like over a projectile. Neutral jumping to deal with projectiles is okay.
Second, to NOT actively seek to land the ultra. This doesn't mean I won't ultra at all, I just try not to fish for ultras. Of course if you are wide open I'll toss it out, but I'll do my best to win without using it. I did this for a long time with Abel, when I got to the point when I could consistently win without ultras, I did much better when I worked them back into my rotation. I remember joking around that time that I needed to change my title to "Doesn't Ultra Much".

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
GAAAAAHHH xbox problems! Sorry Ablank, dunno what happened but my stick stopped working then while I was trying to fix it, I got a dirty disk. Don't have time to figure out whats goin onnnn so I had to leave it at that for the time being.
Good games though, I can see that just "knowing" Gens combos and so on won't be enough till I get lots of experience against a good opponent. Also Ill stop throwing out so many damn focus attacks... nah
Will be on tonight

So I finally picked this up a few weeks ago and after stalking this thread for awhile I ordered a Madcatz CE stick. Got it last Monday and have been messing around as much as I can. so far... I am terrible, which from what I have read is normal. My execution is whats really killing me. I can not consistently do anything. I am okay on the controller but it's like learning to walk again. Any suggestions or advise? I am playing Abel, FYI. Not sure why but something about his play style just speaks to me.

I don't know if anyone else has this happen, but it's like the clicks in the joystick speak to me. I feel them through the stick as it hits the microswitches. I found a SFIV machine at a little bar, but it used a Happ 360, and I was utterly awful. Even the concave Happ buttons threw me way off my game.
I'm thinking about going over to the dark side with character selection . . . that standing fierce is heavenly. You all know what I mean.
I love playing as Boxer, even though I'm very mediocre with him, because I feel like it's forcing me to learn ways of playing that I've never learned before. With Gouken, it seems I can often win just by relying on his special moves, and though in the short term it may be more satisfying to actually win some championships, in the long run I may be better off abandoning him, at least for now.

Well that's good I was imaging there were some crazy combos out there that I was overlooking. I'm only inching toward 1000 right now but whenever I ended up dizzying folks I kind of think to myself
"shouldn't i have an awesome combo for this situation?"
but those are situations when I can open with her target combo and go from there.
I think focus attack > dash forward > c.HP xx mk SBK results in more damage if you don't have meter. It's pretty easy to pull off online too.
I usually do jump in target combo, c.hp, xx mk sbk.
Hey ChaosHat, check your friend requests if you haven't already, I sent you one yesterday.

Hey Hiryu, is Abel's roll completely invincible from start to near finish?
Just fought a rather annoying jumpy one, couldn't get in without eating a wheel kick or him bypassing my attacks with a roll.
YES.
Actually no. The regular roll is vulnerable during startup, only the grounded part is invincible. The EX roll is invincible for the entire move. ALL versions can be regular thrown. Bait the roll and toss him right out of it.

It's usually a good gauge to see how many shenanigans you can pull in an Abel match by throwing out a roll first thing. If you get thrown out of it, chances are they know the matchup, if not, time to go to town with mix-ups and other crazyness.

Wait... I can throw him during the entire non-EX roll?
I must try this.
You can also sweep him out of normal.
Not once he's actually rolling. He's vulnerable before he hits the ground, but I've TT'd guys that tried to sweep the actual roll many times.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've never been swept in mid-roll.

I just always assume the other player knows about roll throwing whenever I play Abel, which isn't often. I only use it to punish fireballs or close distance, but always the shortest roll possible so I'm not in throwing range. Lots of times they'll attempt a throw anyway after you're done with the roll and you can punish them if you're quick.
I just played 3 Akumas in a row, all who played keep away from my Boxer.
The clock would be down to the final 20 seconds before he'd finally catch me messing up while trying to jump or dash under a fireball. So frustrating playing him.
Of the 25-30 matches I had tonight about 75% were either Ryu, Ken or Akuma.

I'm pretty sure the Clippers are mentioned in Sean's biography somewhere.
Ideal people have MvC2/BB/HDR but will take other people. If you only have one or two of the games, you'll probably get booted when we move.

It was very frustrating. I am not that good
I would beat them one round because either they expected more of me or I have one decent strategy and then they would destroy me the next two.
