apparently the official story for Sagat's scar is not just that Ryu dragon punched him, but that Sagat actually won the match and extended his hand to help Ryu up - and Ryu fucking hit him with a Shoryuken.

    What a dick.

i was trying to find some good fight scenes from the various Street Fighter shows

all I could find were scenes of Ryu going dark side and going AAAAAAAAGGGGHHHH HNNNNNRRRRGGGHHH and charging a fireball for like twelve years before throwing it at someone, usually obliterating them or the building behind them.

get your goddamn dragonball z out of my street fighter.

Well, from what I understand Ryu would become much more powerful than Akuma if he accepts the shun goku satsu or whatever it is that Akuma accepted.

Fun fact: Wikipedia says the literal translation of "shun goku satsu" is "instant hell murder." That is awesome.

The original SF2 movie was actually pretty damn good. Good movie, great soundtrack.

The US soundtrack however was a fucking abomination pumped full of nu-metal shite.

One of the most glaring examples of this is the Chun/Vega fight. In the original JP version, Chun and Guile both turn on the radio and listen to a mellow, acoustic song performed by a soulful make vocalist. The juxtaposition of the slower/softer music with the brutal battle that ensues between Chun/Vega makes the scene amazing.

The US version substitutes KMFDM on the radio and thus completely changes the tone of the scene, from something amazing, to something predictably drowned in testosterone.

Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.

Sagat doesn't get a scar in the original game at all though he does have the eye patch. They change their minds every iteration on character back stories so it's really a moot point. I just remember that video as being the first concrete scene with him getting the scar.

the storyline as far as i know it is that the SF1 tourney takes place, Ryu and Sagat fight, Ryu gives Sagat a dragon punch to the chest, game over; in between the two games, Sagat's wound heals into a gross scar.

From what I understand they were fighting each other, Sagat was winning and considered the fight over. Ryu went to the dark side and socked the crap out of him. KO'ing him. Sagat was thuroughly pissed, and spends most of Alpha trying to kick his ass. In the end he realizes some sort of inner peace about not fighting with anger, he becomes some sort of friend with Ryu, and Ryu realizes that the dark power is no good.

Sagat was thuroughly pissed, and spends most of Alpha trying to kick his ass. In the end he realizes some sort of inner peace about not fighting with anger, he becomes some sort of friend with Ryu, and Ryu realizes that the dark power is no good.

The round was over, Sagat had won. He went over and offered to help Ryu up.

Having had his ass beat down by Sagat, something deep inside Ryu didn't want to let him lose. And so Ryu came very, very close to being overtaken by the "Murderous Intent," the Satsui no Hadō, and coming THAT close to being over come by Satsui no Hadō caused Ryu to Shoryuken Sagat, resulting in a wound that led to the massive scar across his chest. The Satsui no Hadō is the kind of dark power that Akuma wields and gives him his strength/abilities, and even Akuma is expecting Ryu to give into it eventually, because he considers it a source of extreme power. It's the Satsui no Hadō that allowed Akuma to nearly kill Gouken, and it's the kind of thing that Ryu almost gave into when he was defeated by Sagat.

This changed Ryu. He didn't know that he had that kind of evil spark inside of him, and he knows that it's a terrible thing. He went into a kind of reclusive state.

Until Ken talked him out of it. That's why Ken gave Ryu his head band - the red head band - to remind him who he is, and that he doesn't have to give into Satsui no Hadō.

Ryu still struggles with it though, because he knows that potential is always there.

As far as Sagat, he vowed revenge upon Ryu, and blinded by rage he joined Shadaloo in a deal with Bison to set up another battle so that he could take down Ryu. It wasn't until later that Sagat realized that fighting with rage wasn't helping him. Bison gave him a shot at Ryu, having put Ryu in a state of mind control. But Sagat didn't want this kind of match, and busted Ryu out of the mind control state, after which Ryu beat down Bison. That's when Sagat finally got over his rage and understood true rivalry.
