Also, I know it varies depending on the monsters attack patterns, but what's the best guard+dodge with the GS? I'm constantly getting hit mid attack because I'm not planning it out right.
Learn to dodge pretty much constantly. Dodging is by far the best way to recover after an attack with the greatsword. Keep in mind you can roll forward or sideways after attacking. Blocking is only used when you don't think you can safely roll out of the way.
I hope that getting a takeaway for dinner tonight and the promise to paint the kitchen next week will buy me 'till I pass out on the sofa' time on monster hunter tonight without having an angry Girlfriendasaurus stomping on my man parts IRL.

you can not give every item away but if you want to give one, then stand next to another hunter, select the item and choose "give"
The game doesn't make it very clear that you are trying to give an item though.
Just to give it a shot I tried giving a potion to Dashui. I stood there holding out my hand, but it wasn't very obvious, and this weird sound plays. Everyone was like "can you hear that? What the hell is that bell sound?"

Pitfall trap + sleep shot?
Man you can't just use that combo off the bat, you'll have to knock down her defenses first with some wine and dine, maybe some foreplay, then bam trap and shot.

Can't you also just drop eggs/stones in the red box for extra money/resources?
Didn't hop on line last night since I was ousted from the living room, so I went and hooked up the wii to the bedroom TV...where I couldn't get a wireless signal. So, solo game it was. I might have to as well tonight, but Saturday...oh Saturday it's ON.
So I got this game a few days ago, and it's awesome. I still can't get a king's frill to finish my jaggi mail set though . I'm assuming I have to catch the great jaggi to get one as I haven't tried that yet.
I'll post my wii online stuff when i get home from work.
New to MH here, got to play for a few hours last night and loving it so far. Any tips for a newbie to the game? Also at what point is it safe for me to head online and not hold others back from questing.

So for those in solo did anyone else kind of use the great jaggi as an additional damage dealer on the big quarawhatever? He would seemingly get hurt and run off but I know that he also winged that thing multiple times.
Also how do you make a pitfall trap? I have the kit is that the trap or do I need to combine something?
spider web + ivy -> net + trap kit -> pitfall
-or-
thunderbug + trap kit -> shock trap
both can be used for capture.

Hey, what's with the pig?
I gave it a name, and tried to snuggle with it, and an excited mark popped on screen and it headbutted me and ran off, and hasn't come back yet.
D...Did the pig just refuse my man love and leave me?
edit: also, what's with the farm? How does it work (I know it's not magic)

Even if there's no egg quest, you can take eggs and powderstones to the Wyverian old guy, if he's present in the field. He'll trade you stuff for 'em.
Now that I did not know. What does he trade for them?
I got a psychoserum? Said something about getting feeling a creature?
If I remember right that lets you "detect" a monster using brain power!! Kinda like how paintball works, but not sure if its up always like paintball or if you just get like a 'sense' and you see the blip then it vanishes.

Nobody really knows what's up with the pig. If you hit the 'a' button when the exclamation mark appears it jumps up and throws hearts around. Some hunters pet the pig before every quest, for luck. No idea if it actually does anything though.
Oh, and psychoserum really isn't that great. It shows you where the monsters are just long enough for you to get an idea of how to intercept them. Autotracker is much better.

You'll get a tutorial on the farm after you get resources to fix it and a felyne comes back to work. It's pretty easy though - drop off 1 of Herb/Honey/Bug/Mushroom (each has to be unlocked, you start with just herbs at first) and one of a catalyst (dung, shroom germ, etc...), select how long you want the cat to farm the stuff in days (2 hunts = 1 day), then come back and reap the rewards. Then repeat for more stuff.
Also, the pig wants love! Snuggle with him, and when you see the "!" over his head (approx 1.5 beats after music stops) press "a", and he'll love you. There's a rumor that loving your pig before every quest will help with quest rewards... but probably not.
E: Re: Cats: You know if one of the black cats (Melynx) steal from you, you can find their "home" and have a chance of getting it back at the Big stone cat idol with the red markings. In Moga Woods, in the cave, you can crawl through the little hole on the right after entering from the south, and you'll find yourself in a Felyne area with the idol.
Alrighty, now that I have converted myself into a robot (rhenplos armor) I'll have abit of an edge vs Barroth (armor negates mud/snow) as I spam him over and over for parts to make his armor + weapons. So cool looking!!
*edit - holyCRAP, talk about an advantage! I used a Ludroth's Claw (water dmg sns) and that did extra dmg to him while he had mud on him - Ive never seen a clean barroth before lol. Further the mud negate was awesome, i could attack him freely while he did his mud splatter attack, which gave me a ton of opportunities. I love how planning can pay off in this game.

So is everyone playing online focusing on one weapon tree or are all of you kind of branching out to having four or five medium level weapons to fight whatever comes along?
I'm starting to gather a decent amount of resource and I am just not sure which direction to go.

I'm literally brought to tears at how many new Hunters are in this game. Seriously guys its beautiful. I think my Freedom PSP brethren understand the joy of seeing new hunters running around with us and accidently getting wall raped by a Rathian or sending us flying with a misplaced uppercut. Seriously no sarcasm there, the best part of my night last night was teaching a couple of kids online how to run a great sword properly. By the end of the night I was a gunner and just supervising their massacre of a Peco.

I'm doing Lance... and LOVING it! The old Lance charge isn't quite as powerful as before, but the new lance counter is AMAZING.
Also, I know it seems silly, but the hits somehow feel "crunchier" than in Unite. When I hit a monster now, I can really FEEL it, and it is satisfying.
I promised a friend to go to his place and get shitfaced and play Rock Band. I think I'm actually regretting that decision...
How sad is that?

I honestly have no idea, just the look of it is sweet (the trade ship guy has one equipped) and I heard its more my style as I don't really use the shield for anything (aside from not having to sheath to use an item) and its all offense and dodging. I guess you charge up spirit attacks? I don't know.

Sorry, I meant does it have an upswing that can send ALLIES flying. Cause if not I may go that route as I hate doing that with the great sword accidentally.

No uppercuts on the longsword. Mainly knocks you over with the horizontal slash though.
