Also people apparently think that the Reach rookie is MC who has traveled back in time (OMG the H3 Legendary ending planet is Reach!), I need to stop reading the official forums.
Well I tried things out online for the first time yesterday and had a lot more fun with it than I expected. It has to be one of the most functional matchmaking systems I've ever used. It avoids the trap that most games with a lot of game modes fall into where they can have any ridiculous number of game modes, but that doesn't stop people from playing nothing but capture the flag.
I'm just a little annoyed, I hit the 5exp mark, but didn't get the Graduate achievement. Does that have to be 5exp from a single mode, or a specific one?
Hey im a long time lurker and since the topic of Youtube videos is up, I decided to sign up and get peoples opinions on something, Youtube emailed me today about a video I uploaded a few years ago, the video was a Halo 1 video showing a trick on how to use a Ghost to get right to the top of Blood Gulch.
Anyway the email said something along the lines of my video being popular enough to hold ad’s, so I went through the process required to add them, and the final page asked me to check if the video had any music/ performances/ video game footage/ movie footage and generally explain the content of the video, this is to ensure I don’t use licensed music etc.
Now since I captured the footage and was the one ‘performing’ in the video do you think the video rights belong to me, or do they still belong to Microsoft as the footage is taken out of that game, its an interesting thought right?
You can’t sell or otherwise earn anything from your Items. We will let you have advertising on the page with the Item on it, but that’s it.
hrmm.
bit of a grey area that, im sure they dont mean I can have ad's but I cant earn anything from them?
That cant be right, im guessing then that im ok with the youtube ad's which would be pretty sweet, earning money from playing Halo (even if its only 10p) would make my day :P
Whoops, I didn't jump back over in time for Firefight.
But now I'll post that project I've been working on
Firefight Fridays
basic details:
*creating a consistent day/time for people to play firefight, which should increase ODST activity
*in addition, a for-fun competition aspect will be implemented
as you saw i already made a divisions map.
not pictured: Euro Division
I used the locations people submitted to me for two reasons: to make sure my divisions spread the population evenly as possible, and the other use was so that we could actually have an useful map of PA Halo players. (the last ones had too many mismarked/useless entries). And also for the PA OP.
In essence, every thursday night I'll post the FIREFIGHT FRIDAY theme map and restrictions.
Examples:
Week One: Last Exit, No Restrictions
Week Two: Crater, No Sniper Rifle or Rockets Allowed
Week Three: Best score after 1 Set on Oni Exterior
Week Four: Blind Skull On, Lost Platoon, Best Score out of 1 Set
Week Five: Cowbell On, Oni Interior, human weapons only (which means no picking up hammers, carbines, PPs, needlers, etc)
shit like that. easily verifiable (just check the game stats for weapons used), limiting sets makes it not a huge time investment, and all that.
another part is I might make seperate challenges for Easy/Normal and Heroic/Legendary on certain weeks. Like the Easy/Normal challenge for a week would be "Data Hive No Restrictions Best Score after 1 Set" but the Heroic/Legendary one would be "Data Hive No Turret No Rockets".
all of this will have it's own site . Basically I plan to start it with you guys for the first few weeks to work out any kinks, then start posting it on HBO and see where it goes from there. Or it might just stay here, who knows.
the divisions thing basically creates quick and easy groups for people to form into. You're competing within your division but also against other divisions, as all submitted games for a division are added up at the end of each week and a winner declared. And hopefully reduces latency for people that are not quite familiar with each other easily by keeping them mostly close geography-wise.
this is also why i'm waiting until after christmas to start this, since starting it this friday and then christmas happening would have killed it's momentum right there.
here's some semi-placeholder tiles that people will be able to quickly glance and see a week's restrictions
No Ghosts: You cannot take ghosts from enemies and use them. you can jack them out of a ghost but you have to immediately get out.
no laser: no picking up the laser allowed (mostly affects Lost Platoon)
no rockets: no picking the rockets
no sniper (human): no picking up the sniper rifle off the walls. I specify human because even though you can't pick up the sniper, you can salvage beam rifles from jackals under this restriction.
no covenant: you are not allowed to pick up ANY covenant weapons (except for plasma and brute grenades, since you cant help but pick those up). Basically you are stuck with your starting weapons and whatever the map provides.
no grenades: not allowed to throw any grenades
no hammers: you cannot pick up the hammers after chieftains are killed
no shotgun: you are not allowed to pick up the shotgun off the wall of maps (mostly affects Oni Interior)
Haven't made any for the skulls yet, but there will be one for "Blind Skull: On" and "No Cowbell".
Those are all ideas I have for restrictions right now, nothing's final. I decided that time limits should be round/wave/set based so that they are easier to know when it happens and you can cleanly end the game instead of someone having to watch the clock.
also obviously wraith jacking will be globally banned from challenges. 1) Because I don't like it for high score purpose and 2) it requires knowledge of exploiting the engine so the leaderboards would just turn into people who know how to glitch and people that don't know how.

No grenades restriction is a pipe dream because throwing them goddamn instinct. See also: Catch rounds.
I'd also specify that Covie only applies to guns, and covie grenades are fine.

read over that.
the video rights belong to you, but you can't use them for commercial purposes. So the video is fine as-is, but I'm pretty sure ads will be a no-no
