Moral of the story: Never say die.
HAPPY: We had a rather nervous time in the buildup to Sunday's ToC-10H. We'd got through our first clearance last week, so were looking forward to pushing more towards the 45-wipes-left achievement, when something went a bit wrong; one of our healers had a communication problem when PuGging the normal and accidentally got himself saved to the heroic version, meaning that we were stuck with two healers for an instance we still struggled with.
Despite only having those two healers, they did a sterling effort and we made it through. I think we'll stick to two healers on Jaraxxus in the future, since that felt *so much* easier with the extra DPS instead. Anub'arak P3 went rather horribly wrong a few times and we only got through it in the end by nuking him relentlessly as the tanks keeled over (I died - tanking Anub and two adds at that point - about five seconds before he did. We were very lucky with a fortunately-timed add submerge)
Oddly, I find the add tanking role on 10H *easier* than on 25N. I think it's because the 25-man is a lot busier that I suffer rather more from slowdown, making me lethargic at picking up both adds in time, whereas on the 10-man I run pretty smoothly and seem to be able to target and grab each just fine.
AMUSED ANNOYANCE: We then went on to Algalon. Yeah. We need three healers for that.
CONFUSED: We have a problem with our warrior tank. He seems like he's doing *something* wrong; by all accounts, despite being better-geared than me (a paladin), he's significantly harder to heal, and he's generally got 1-2k TPS less than me. Now, I'm aware that paladins still have a fair threat lead over the other tanks, but I'm distressed about his survivability - particularly since this has been true since *before* the Ardent Defender change. While I can't easily judge his damage intake since I've usually got something of my own to worry about, he does look awfully spiky.
Obligatory HEADLESS HORSEMAN: Been doing it since the beginning, every night, usually with five or more alts too. No HH mount has dropped thus far.
Not that I care, I got it last year.
Hope: I have time to finish the holiday achievements for the title.
Meta-hope: The faction+server+guild transfer plot I have on the boil works out so I can get back to raiding with my old crew. After a summer break partly by choice and partly enforced by a change in house and job I am now 100% free to raid Monday to Thursday. I am currently in a scrubby 10 man guild that doesn't really have their shit together and looking for something a little more competent. As a shadow priest I top their meters (bar some competition from a T9-laden warlock). Go figure.
My brother who got the mount last year has cashed on this druid from brewfest and this event for 5k?
It's pretty easy. Just throw an unsolicited Hand of Protection on one of the tanks while he's still tanking cats. Nobody was surprised that it happened once (the guy who did it is kind of notorious for fucking up HoP), but he did this multiple times.
Happier - got home and reserved it last night.
Gnoheals... terrible I know, but I love it.

It's.... it's..... brilliant. You totally have to be shadow.
Personally I have Bandworgen and Volksworgen, both of whom are in an alt guild called <Paint that Worgen>
That's pretty terrible. How do you accidentally Hand of Protection someone?
In keeping with then naming convention, I have Wolf-ish saved for my future Warlock
Warriors *are* squishier in general, and Paladins still put out beastly threat in comparison. I can't tell you *why* yet, but give me a few weeks now that my Warrior is a space goat and I want to play her.
The boy has a nack for naming.
He's also the one that picked Webster for his hunters spider, which I though was brilliant.

To that note, I find I am struggling to put out solid threat on my Blood DK these days. My rotation seems solid but there was a port warrior way under me in gear that was actually much closer to my threat than I liked.
Warriors are not squishy.
That's just a bad warrior.
It's a gift. He wasn't doing it accidentally, he was just being profoundly bad and throwing HoP on tanks while they were tanking instead of waiting for them to ask for one.

When I got my paladin to 80 I said to myself, "I'm not leveling up any of my alts because I want to have a 'main' and this is it!"
Yeah, take a look at my sig and see how well that turned out. What's not featured is the 72 warrior, 73 DK, 63 Hunter, 45 priest, 42 warlock, and 27 rogue.

It wasn't entirely his fault, as a few times tanks died during a fear, which is mostly why I hate that achievement, because having OTs who aren't warriors is detrimental to your success. You either have to fear ward rotation them or hope tremor totem pulses at the right time, otherwise they go splat. The BoP thing was super dumb though yes. This was the same guy who fucked up one of our earlier Anub'arak heroic attempts because instead of BoPing the person Anub was chasing, he somehow BoPed himself.
I'm trying to remember how we pulled this one off on ours (which happened to be a realm first :P)
IIRC, it was warrior on Cat Lady, 2 druids rotating on one pair of the cats and myself and Shadowane on the other pair. I can't remember how we handled the fears, I think we just ate them and relied on super druid hots and tremor totems. No HoP was used.
Happy: A Tribute to Insanity (10 player) next week: A Tribute to Dedicated Insanity
Boo-urns #2: I didn't know if you have 50 attempts left you get a mount in ToC...i have 99 mounts currently so of course I lost the roll.
That is brilliant. You got a smart kid.
We were doing it with three tanks on the adds, two tanks taking two adds and a third not tanking at a given time. So after the bleeds stack up, the spare tank taunts the adds away from one, who then gets a bop, clears it, then takes the adds from the other tank, who then gets a bop and goes and relieves the tank who took over for the first one. After that things get hairy because all of the tanks now have forbearance but Auriaya should be close to dead.
It probably would have been simpler to have two pairs of OTs switching off on the adds in the future, but that would require yet another tank (bringing the total of tanks you are bringing to a non-hardmode fight to FIVE), which I'm not sure we could have fielded without somebody porting out to respec.
It also didn't help that the shaman we had assigned to drop tremor totem for the tank group was our very special enhancement shaman who 1) was dropping tremor totem way out of range of the OTs, and 2) was in rare form for dying to raid damage last night. He managed to die in Vault of Archavon after every mob in the instance was dead. When we finally got the kill he first dropped his totem way away from the OTs, and then died before the second fear so we never got the benefit from it.
Oof. Yeah, we're lucky in that we have two feral dps who tank for 5 mans and 10 mans so they also have a somewhat reliable tank gear set.
Let's not forget Kologarn, where he died by running off the cliff. And then he ankh'd down there to die again.
He did provide us with an interesting report from the bottom, though: Apparently Kologarn does have feet, but he does not wear shoes.
Unrelated Hate: There's no achievement for finishing ToGC10 with 50 attempts remaining and zero deaths. I understand there being certain differences between 10 and 25 achievements, such as the realm firsts, but that is still somewhat tricky to accomplish. I didn't expect to be handed a title but I could have sworn there was at least an achievement for it. We got it last week and I was like :...: when Anub died and no achievement spam popped up.
And yeah I guess our raid has a lot of druids and off spec players who collect tank gear. If we have our normal raid we could probably field 8 tanks with no issues. At least 8. Our 4 main tanks that swap off doing dps, our 2 feral druids (one of which is me), a DK, and another warrior. For cat lady, I did it with some terrible gear too.
edit: And yes, we just ate the fears and the healers dealt with it. With the 4 tanks we just swapped cats when the stacks got to 2. Since I only had 1 taunt, it took at least 8 seconds to taunt both off nobody. I totally agree that the Crazy Cat Lady achievement is stupid though.
To whom are you referring?
Edit: AHHHHH! Sweet, nourishing context!
Stood in Archavon's remaining dust cloud, I think.
Oh, that makes me laugh.
Wait. The dude fell down next to Kologarn and died, then ankhed even though he was down there and clearly was going to die again, and this trips you up?
Because it's impossible to die once there's nothing to kill you.
Obviously there was something to kill him.
Gravity can be a bitch.
EDIT: We would actually have gotten mad Skill on our first kill too, we had 45 attempts left at that point.
He said every mob was dead; he didn't say all their related stuff-not-to-stand-in had despawned yet.
