RMA is the way to go if you want them to replace it for free under warranty.

If you don't care about the warranty and feel you're up to the task, Doc_SoCal on the RB Forums runs his own set of forums all about modding RB and GH equipment. Your call.

Holy shit why does LEGO Rock Band have some of the hardest songs on drums in the entire series?

I have hit my LEGO-BRICK WALL.

Fuck you "Aliens Exist". Fuck you "Two Princes". I can not pass either.
I am LUCKY when I pass "Suddenly I See" (although the intro is all that gives me trouble, if I can clear it), and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic". And that fucking Razorlight song and "Real Wild Child" can also go fuck themselves.

I havent even gotten to "Fire" yet. But seriously, what the hell!? I beat PANIC ATTACK!

Yeah, I kinda figured that Aliens Exist and Two Princes would be tough. Travis ain't Neil but damn does he have some insane patterns (I cannot FC that nasty fill in Feeling This).

I didn't fail out of either of those two but I honestly didn't like sightreading those songs on drums. "Two Princes" was really terrible for me. It's like they sped up one of the Grateful Dead notecharts and threw in extra offbeat bass kicks.

Hmm, yeah that is pretty fast. Will have to see if I like it for myself when I get some working drums back in the house. I play China Cat Sunflower a lot, so it looks like a chart I could enjoy.

I don't think that I'll particularly like playing the Blink 182 song. I didn't like Dammit either, though. The difficulty is so dependent on the speed that I just end up tired while playing it.

Fire looks like a total blast.

Have you played Short and Sweet yet? It's not particularly hard, but it's one of the most repetitive terrible drum songs in the game.

Fire, Aliens Exist, Two Princes, and Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic make me feel my purchase of the game was justified though. Some fun songs to be sure.

Really? I really enjoy Blink-182 drums, they're usually the charts that make the most sense to me and usually the stuff I can do with a moderate amount of both skill and enjoyment.

But yes, they are tiring which for me adds to the enjoyment.

    Anyone see this?
Don't expect the next Rock Band to be a rehashed title with an updated set list. It appears Harmonix is hard at work on reinventing the music game genre.

Dhani Harrison, son of Beatles legend George Harrison and developer on The Beatles: Rock Band, told the Chicago Tribune new details on the still unannounced Rock Band 3 project.

Harrison, who still works with developer Harmonix, said he's creating new musical controllers that will actually teach players the fundamentals of playing real-life instruments for the next Rock Band title.

"I'm working on 'Rock Band 3' and making the controllers more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game," he said.

Harrison would add, however, gamers might not see the next proper Rock Band installment for quite some time.

"Give me a couple years, it's going to happen."

MTV Games general manager Scott Guthrie hinted at big changes for the series in a recent interview, saying the next Rock Band title could even incorporate Project Natal motion technology.

"We aren't standing still – we will keep moving into new areas and look at new technologies that our platform holder partners are also developing, such as Project Natal from Microsoft," said Guthrie.

    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/104/1043216p1.html

On the one hand, it would kind of suck if we didn't get a Rock Band 3 for a couple more years. On the other, the zerg rush of Guitar Hero games and the consequent brand fatigue (DJ Hero and Band Hero both bombed in the UK) could have the effect of pushing down interest in Rock Band as well. Waiting a couple of years for the fallout from that to go away, then coming back with something new and different could be just what the doctor ordered. Not to mention we're getting a steady stream of great DLC.

How difficult is it for them to patch in new animations (if that's even possible)? I've been eyeballing some of the Hero games just to have something NEW to look at even thought I prefer the note charts and song selections of RB.

Also, I wonder if HMX will do anything with the turntable controller (I'm hoping for a musical/spiritual sequel to the Amp/Freq series).

I 100% support the approach Harmonix is taking with it's brand of rhythm game.

    :^:

I'm also looking forward to: "Holy shit, I actually know some scales on the guitar due to Rock Band...." I highly doubt they'll be able to accomplish any more than that. I see them either being able to pull off chord shapes (Doubtful) or just basically mass soloing.

Incorporating Natal though is the smartest thing they could do. In fact, with Natal in mind you could literally play guitar, just with the chord structures ect coming up in front of you.

Shit, Rock Band could turn into a Guitar Pro file that you just air-guitar everything to.

Hell, it could have tutorials teaching you how to actually play guitar. "Play a C major scale during the solo to get bonus points " or some such. Or hell, just give free lessons on guitar inside the game....

HOLY CRAP ROCK BAND 3'S GONNA BE AWESOME.

Cool, ok - I have faith in Harmonix. Go go guys, go!

Well, I remember that it's hardcoded (essentially) into Learning to Fly. Though I've only seen the one where the singer does a running dive into the crowd, recently I got to see the "Nestea Plunge/Reverse Swan dive" one.

It's a space issue. Anything they want to add has to fit within the space a console has to hold any updates available. They couldn't 'properly' add star tracking on the 360, they can't just add animations. Technically speaking the base of the game is approaching two years and B:RB simply outclasses it. They cannot wait years to release a proper game just to add some ability to teach basic fundamentals. Just how long can they go with the main game not having harmonies?

Potentially forever. Harmonies are cool and all, but it's not exactly the feature every game in the genre sorely needs. Especially since bands that aren't the Beatles don't harmonize all that much.

If they're gonna hold back on RB3 until Dhani Harrison evolves the teaching aspect beyond how playing AC/DC bass already teaches you how to play AC/DC bass ("Put your finger there, then strum up and down." "Then what?" "Wait for the song to finish. Here's a Snickers.") they should release a Rock Band 2: HD Remix to add star tracking, new animations, graphics and all that other stuff. And then people could say "But wasn't RB2 already HD?" and they could say "... shut up".

OK, naming optional, but RB2 already kinda felt like an update, so why not do it again before the big shift.

Seems like a good time to also point out that I follow some of the HMX guys on Twitter, and on Sunday one of them (I believe a programmer...) posted:

"Im not the only HMX employee who came in on a Sunday to do some work. Harmonix loves you guys."

Aside from DLC, with both Beatles and LEGO out now, it seems that people coming in on a Sunday would mean that there's some hard work going on to meet a deadline. My hope is a video, trailer or little bit of something to show off for PAX East Coast.

Im going to PAX East Coast for Harmonix. Ive seen how awesome they've been for West Coast, so I am so excited for what they're going to pull out when it's in thier home city.

And Dhanni Harrison does not work for HMX... It's like some member of a band saying 'we've got tracks coming out soon' and how many times have we seen something like that with nothing to show for it.

We will see RB3 released sometime next year. Harmonies may not be a major thing, but people want them. There is a laundry list of things that need improvement in RB2 that cannot simply wait just so they can practically render all their old content 'useless'. Keep in mind, any attempt to make the guitar/bass more 'real' would require a whole new design for the controller and would, at the same time, eliminate all plastars currently made as a usable design.

I still enjoy RB2, but there is nothing new about it. If it wasn't for things like HOPO chords, you could just as easily play RB1 and not notice much of a difference. They cannot simply patch in new fundamental fixes. Waiting a couple more years allows Activision to either come up with a combination of things that either betters the work HMX has done or finally kills off the genre. Letting either happen is bad for HMX's business...

I didnt take it as seriously as that new article makes it sound.

This same, 2 sentence quote, has been brought up in at least 3 different articles now.

His "give me a couple years" has gone from, what I believe the original intention was, "Its hard work revolutionizing the music game industry for a second time - but man, I'm trying to make new controllers, it just takes time (a whole lotta precious time. Its gonna take patience and time. To do it right.)."

And now it's "ROCK BAND 3 WONT BE COMING FOR YEARS!!!!!"

There's STILL an extra port on back of the drums. My guess is they've been thinking about this for years ALREADY. The game will come out next year with the capability to do everything Dhani mentions. The instruments will come later if need be. My guess is RB3 will see an added hi-hat pedal with its NEW drumset, but the RB2 kits are already prepared for them.

Oh, it's certainly not set in stone, but given what's happening in the music game biz at the moment I wouldn't set a 2010 RB3 release in stone either.

Edit: So? Even if he's just a tech advisor he's still working for Harmonix. (Actually the original Chicago Tribune article said he was hired by Harmonix to develop RB2, so it sounds like he's more than that.) And nobody responded to my reasonable points either. Besides, you saying he doesn't work for Harmonix kinda proves you didn't really pay attention to what I had to say.

For what its worth, I remember with 100% certainty that when Dhani Harrison was on Conan O Brien, he said he was an actual employee of Harmonix. He talked about thenewno2, and said to Conan that his band was fun, but wasn't making money, so he went into game development. He actually said that his band is what he loves to do, "but making games pays the bills."
