If it's a full $60 package like Beatles they can go fuck themselves, if it's another $30 thing like AC/DC I still don't care, but I'll probably eventually get it for Dookie stuff.
What?
If it's a quick cash-in, cool, but if it actually feels like a real fleshed-out game, then fuck it?

I'm more relating it to price points than the quality of either of those games, since it's obviously fleshed out to some extent.

No, he doesn't want to buy 60 dollars for a Green Day game.
Sad news on the Green Day front. Dookie is one of those rare CDs I can hear back to back. How about the singles on International Hits? Those were pretty fun.
I hope they don't cut a lot of stuff from Warning and Nimrod. Some of the CD filler is awesome.
I'm writing this post while listening to Pulling Teeth. Man this song really takes me back.

I don't give a shit about the "game" since I pretty much just ignore it and play the songs in quickplay anyway - so a cheap exportable pack is the best.
So... the White Stripes has split tipple cords. Songs full of them. On Bass.
What's up with this shit. I'm going to have to jump over to guitar to practice.

That's probably because it's not actually bass?
When they announced the White Stripes pack, they also said that because of the lack of bass, they charted the rhythm guitar for bass.
Count me as yet another soul uninterested in a Green Day disk. The question of which band might deserve such a treatment is interesting, and I'd have to agree with those who say Led Zepplin. The major Grunge bands have been hit hard already, and there isn't really another indentifiable pop-music movement in the late 90s / 00s. Not in the same way.
80s superbands? Duran Duran? Doesn't seem like the market is there, as most of the nostalgia-driven 80s love is disperse.
My wife and I have idiosyncratic musical tastes. however, and as the music means more to us than the play, we are often just happy when some of 'our' music hits DLC (Siouxsie, Lacuna Coil, Ministry, Pixies, Jane's Addiction). But since every honest RB forum post must end with begging:
Queensryche Joy Division Sisters of Mercy PLZ PLZ PLZ.
When I read about the whole Green Day Rock Band thing this morning, I involuntarily made a face and said "Ugh". My body had a physical reaction, like I just saw a video of someone kicking a dog or something. Green Day? Really?

This is definitely one of those "Time to find a discography" pieces of news, much like when GH:Van Halen was released.
Doesn't look like a buy based on the Green Day I do have though.
Rock Band 2 drums are 50. Based off of my experience with The Beatles set, which is supposed to be the same, they are MUCH quieter, and I believe they have a metal plating over the base.
Rock Band 2 drums were what I had in mind right off the bat too, but I've seen quite a few unofficial 3rd party ones linked around here, and thought that they might have some benefits over the standard rig.

You could also look into the official sound dampeners from madcatz.
If it is exportable, I will probably buy and return, or rent it to get the tracks.
Well, if its exportable, it'll likely be like Lego Rock Band, a one-time code use. Although I guess you could still buy and return (bit of a dick move) or just be the first to rent it.
As long as it's exportable I'm very happy about this. It must also have most, if not all, of the Dookie and Insomniac track list. Those albums are incredible.
Sadly, it will likely be mostly new stuff, which is mostly generic and boring garbage.
GREEN DAY, MTV GAMES, HARMONIX AND WARNER BROS. / REPRISE RECORDS ANNOUNCE GREEN DAY: ROCK BAND™
Artist Likenesses, Defining Albums from the Band’s Career and Exportable Track List to be Featured in Green Day Music Game Experience
Green Day 3-Pack Joins Rock Band DLC Line-Up on Tuesday, December 15th
LOS ANGELES / NEW YORK – Dec. 12, 2009 – Multi-platinum selling and Grammy® Award winning group Green Day, along with Harmonix, the leading developer of music-based games, MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), and Warner Bros./Reprise Records today announced at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards that they are collaborating on the standalone title Green Day: Rock Band™.
“We’ve worked with the Rock Band team in the past year to enable our fans to play tracks from 21st Century Breakdown, and we’re excited to now be working on a game, spanning our entire career,” said Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong. “We want people to fire this up, choose their favorite Green Day tracks, and play along with us as Rock Band avatars so they can feel what it's like to perform on stage as Green Day."
The game is an extension and expression of Green Day’s most-defining albums and key moments throughout their career to date. It will feature likenesses of Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, as well as select venues and art specific to the band's history. The title will be available globally in 2010 for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Wii™ system from Nintendo. In addition, the track list will be fully exportable, giving players the opportunity to play the songs in Rock Band™ and Rock Band 2™ on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3.
"Green Day's music and explosive live performances transcend age barriers," says Tom Whalley, Chairman/CEO, Warner Bros. Records. "By partnering with the band and Harmonix, Warner Bros./Reprise is thrilled to help create a Rock Band experience devoted exclusively to their impressive catalog. This game will appeal to fans of all ages, including those who love their recent best-selling albums and those who've loved Green Day throughout their long, incredible career."
“It's very exciting to work closely with Green Day to create an experience that captures the incomparable sound, look and feel of the band,” said Paul DeGooyer, SVP of Electronic Games and Music for MTV Networks Music Group. “'Green Day: Rock Band' is yet another example of how music fans can connect with some of the greatest music ever recorded via the Rock Band platform.”
“This game will feel like a natural extension of Green Day and their music that will deepen the fans’ connection to the band and their history,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems. “Fans will be able to enjoy some of the greatest songs from the Green Day catalogue in this standalone game or via Rock Band due to full export capability. We are thrilled to work with Green Day to revisit key moments from their career, including their likenesses, content and imagery, through our innovative form of musical interaction.”
This latest Rock Band title aims to encapsulate the spirit and energy of a band that has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and been hailed as one of the best live acts touring today. Green Day has won critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot and Record of the Year for their smash hit "Boulevard of Broken Dreams." Earlier this year, Green Day released their eighth studio album, 21st Century Breakdown, on Warner Music Group’s Reprise Records. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock and Alternative charts, fueled by the alternative radio No. 1 single “Know Your Enemy.”
In addition to the game announcement, Green Day will bring three more tracks from 21st Century Breakdown to the Rock Band Music Store as downloadable content on Tuesday, December 15th. The three pack of songs will include, "Christian's Inferno," "Last of the American Girls," and "¡Viva La Gloria!," all from 21st Century Breakdown. These songs, as well as Green Day tracks previously released on the Rock Band platform, will be supported in Green Day: Rock Band.
The Rock Band platform stands next to none with more than 1,000 songs available from more than 390 artists. With more choices for fans than any other music-based videogame, Rock Band is, without question, the industry leader in providing the best selection of interactive musical content, songs and artists. Rock Band offers content in a unique way, through on-disc gameplay, game export, downloadable content, and soon with the Rock Band Network, which allows bands and labels to author their songs into downloadable playable Rock Band tracks. The Rock Band platform allows fans to interact with their favorite music in a unique and hands-on way, as well as giving artists the ability to reach fans through a whole new channel.
Blech. It's not that I don't like Green Day -- Dookie is still one of my top 3 albums of the 90s, front to back -- but whether it's an AC/DC approach or a Beatles approach, these full games are killing my main interest in Rock Band's DLC setup, which was that I could pick and choose the songs I wanted a la carte. Even if I can export, I'll have to wait until the game drops in price to, like, $20 to consider it. Unless it happens to have Dookie in its entirety on-disc, which might make me up the price a bit.
Even Lego RB, which looks fun, makes me :? because I see about half of the game that I'd love to have in my RB library, but to get to them I need to buy another half of a game's worth of songs I'm not crazy about. This is really one of the reasons I was drawn to RB instead of GH, which frustrated me with its crazy disc stratification.
Buying The Colour and the Shape as album DLC was awesome. I'm just glad it came out before a theoretical Rock Band Foo Fighters (Grohl Band Limited Edition with tin box) pressured me to pay $60 for the same privilege.

It's no coincidence that both Green Day RB and Lego RB are done by Warner.
Apparently Warner only wanted the tracks this way. So this time, it's the label that wants the full game, and not the band.
Also to be fair Harmonix said that all music released onto marketplace would always have the option for a-la-carte. So far, this is true. No forced song packs for RB1/2 exist on the music store. They've followed this to a 'fault' with not even listing the track packs as store items or as generally purchasable on Live. Even though they could if they really really wanted to.

Green day rock band would be a buy for me... But its almost guarunteed that it wont have the songs I want on it. More likely the full 21st century breakdown album, then 1 or 2 songs from all the others.
However... If we're talking a good amount of dookie, insomniac or nimrod... I'll probably rent it and get the code to rip the tracks.
I like green day, they are not my favorite band but I have enjoyed enough of their music that I will be buying this game in what ever form ends up being delivered to us. Day 1 purchase.
I'm not ready to pass judgment on this announcement. But seriously, how many GH/RB band specific games do we really need?
On the other hand, if Harmonix/MTV/EA is handling this game and not handing it over to some other developer to cock it up with their bullshit (i.e. Lego Rock Band), then it could turn out to be pretty solid.
I'm not sold on Green Day, never have. For me, they have a really bad pattern of releasing a bland album after releasing a good one.

it's release date is supposedly Fall according to sources.
So it looks like Harmonix will be doing a pattern of 'base game' 'band game' each year. Which I can deal with, and certainly isn't a flood nor requires outsourcing.
So far:
2007: Rock Band
2008: Rock Band 2
2009: Beatles (band) Lego (base)
2010: Green Day (band) RB3? (base)

I really want my guitarist/singer to be of one body and now that we have the Beatles and Green Day with their voxtarists, I hope that's going to be possible next Base game.
Green Day Rock Band? A pass from me, I'm afraid. Maybe if it drops in price. They're not a band I hold in high regard.
There aren't many bands for whom I'd buy specific Rock Band games, although there's a part of me that yearns, screams, cries out for Gorillaz Rock Band. I think Hewlett's art would marry very well with the Rock Band experience, especially if they went with a "The Beatles" style dreamscape approach to each song. The downside is that a lot of Gorillaz' songs would either offer zero challenge or would simply be very boring to play - anyone who's played Bass on "Clint Eastwood" will probably agree with me here.

I get the feeling it won't be like that though I really hope I'm wrong.

Because from that trailer it looks like they're going with camera-angle-changes-animations from Rock Band 1/2, not the 'extended cutscenes' of Beatles
My roommate, who isn't happy that there are GD tracks in RB to begin with, will be less so, I'm imagining...

Fun fact: Green Day will be eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Mayan Calander jokes are optional.
Doesn't look like a buy based on the Green Day I do have though.
Anyway... eh. I like Green Day and all, but beyond someone huge like Led Zeppelin or U2 I just can't get excited about single-band games anymore.
I can understand The Beatles deserving or needing their own game "environment," but they deserve that treatment a little bit more than Green Day.
I need your help now more than I have ever needed anything ever
You are all a bunch of knowledgeable fellows, so I am coming to you.
I hate my Rock Band 1 drums. They are loud and the pedal is snapped in half and currently held together (poorly) with duct tape.
This christmas season, I am looking to upgrade them. What are my best options around the $100 price range?
Biggest priorities are durability and quietness. Wireless wouldn't be so bad, either.
