Yeah, there was a shitload of sad in the last few chapters of Stolen Throne.
As for The Calling:
Even more sadness, seriously Fereldan is not a happy place.

My constantly irritated mage. I'm uncertain about which specialization to pick, but I expect that I will end up being sucked into one for some plot or roleplaying reason over the course of the game.
hah that was a much better response than I could have hoped for, i figured it would have involved an argument about who was serving who but this is even better!
I now have a younger brother to boss around. now fetch me some beer!
Only if you're getting the wenches! Otherwise I'm finding a wench and you can get your own damn beer.
That's a nice one, Pan. Not sure if I'm going to make a girl. I was going to go dwarf warrior and elf mage eventually, and then random whatevers to try all the origins. Maybe the mage...
edit - i really enjoy how we all chose a different, but similar, hair style as well as different but similar hair colours. Totally looks like 3 brothers
my order for the collectors edition from game is being shipped out, they are doing it super early in case of postal strikes, hopefully should have it by tuesday/wenesday if the postal strikes don't happen till thursday!
What the fuck? Postal strikes? You're worrying me here.
And is it only the EA Store that is shipping out copies? I pre-ordered the CE from Amazon with one-day shipping. The estimated delivery date is the 5th. Maybe I should switch it over to the EA Store if they're shipping the game out now. They only have regular shipping and one-two day shipping available, but maybe I'd get it sooner? They also have the CE still in stock.
not ea, ordered my from game.co.uk, postal strikes are only affecting uk as far as i know

I felt the first 3/4 of the book was to paint this pretty cliche' fantasy world image, and then shatter it by making everything go wrong. Like the author going, "PSYCH! This ain't lord of the rings bitch!"
Only problem is you can't mix it up like that. It was pretty high/light fantasy for such a LONG time, that when the author did take a sharp 180 and made things all nasty, it felt very unnatural.
That said, I thought the book was ok. The main characters felt way to flat until the very end (save maybe Loghain). The secondary characters were even more flat and unappealing. The events were all pretty predictable (even the surprise twist). And the writing was far from great.
David Gaider is a master of videogame scripts... but not so much novels I guess. Regardless, of how much I liked this book, I thinking reading it will help the story big time, cause it looks like poor 'ole Loghains gonna be a major player.

I just finished The Calling today, and it is a markedly better book than the Stolen Throne, which probably has something to do with the fact that the Stolen Throne was David Gaider's first book and all. Much more consistent in tone, and better writing overall.
Have there actually been any good video game based books? When you hear one is going to come out, especially prior to the game, you kind of expect it to be mediocre.

It wasn't his first. I think he did the last (and only readable) book in the Baulder's Gate novelizations.

So whenever I log on to dragon age journeys with my ea account, it takes my username and my password, prompts me for a "persona" whatever the hell that means, and then says credentials rejected when I provide one.

I'm going to rock a human mage my first playthrough. I didn't know what he was going to look like but this is an excellent look.

I have to decide between this and WOTS3.
WRY?!
first, what is WOTS3?
second, there is no decision, unless you cancel your preorder.
bahahahah that is fucking awesome, I loled for a bit just now
Soles?
Swords?
Sombreros?
PREORDER CANCELED!

Oh, my preorder is canceled alright. Because I haven't even done it yet.
I have erased my preorder from existence.
But yeah, it's a toss up between dragon hacking and samurai hacking. :x
Okay... WOTS3 has something to do about samurai...
EDIT: nevermind, found a thread with the right initals... could have said it was Way of the Samurai 3 though...
not ea, ordered my from game.co.uk, postal strikes are only affecting uk as far as i know
Way of the Samurai 3.
There's even a thread for it on the first page!
Anyway, I'd go with Dragon Age. WotS3 is great and all, but Dragon Age is a much bigger game.

This here is Talith, my arcane warrior.
I'm pretty satisfied with how he turned out as it looks like me, and I used to have hair like that too.
They're filled with awkward info dumps, though, which isn't exactly good writing.
The second book was pretty damn boring too.

Fine, I guess I'll try this character creator at least. *grumble*
