So for those of you that already have your physical copies from online retailers, how did you get the item codes? Email or a card inside the DVD case?

Not to shatter your hopes and dreams, but...well, my Amazon order shipped from New Castle, Delaware.

Mine shipped today from Reno, with estimated delivery of tomorrow.

I keep getting Steam pop ups telling me it's finished downloading Dragon Age: Origins.

As far as I can tell, I finished doing that yesterday and Steam isn't actually downloading anything before it tells me this.

    Why is it mocking me?

I don't know if it had Delayed Fireball, but it had Skull Trap which is basically the same thing.

If I can beat a dragon by having [strike]Yoshimo[/strike] whoever-the-thief-is set up traps for an hour and then provoking him, I'm going to be slightly annoyed. Or excited, I'm not sure which.

This evening I had nothing to do so I drove around to a few stores to see if anyone broke street date. Maybe if I was really lucky I could find a collector's edition as well. First I head over to Best Buy. I see an empty space in the computer game section, so I ask one of the blue polos if they have any in the back already and maybe they could let me have one early. No dice. Then I head over to Target They have a spot, and a price tag on the shelf already. Surely that means they have one! I ask a red shirt, and he says no, that is just for tomorrow. Cockteases. Finally I decide to head for the Gamestop across the street at the mall. I have to hurry, it's 8:45 and the store closes at 9. I jump in the car and try to haul ass over there, but I get stuck behind some old lady trying to turn left across traffic, which usually takes about 10 minutes at this parking lot. FUCK! I throw it in reverse and head for another exit. I get across and park. Now it's 8:52, and the Gamestop isn't really close to the parking lot, so I have to get moving. I can't really run though, I have a leg injury from lifting weights so I kind have have this trot-skip hybrid. Luckily the mall is about to close so there aren't to many people around to see gimp around for a video game. I manage to get to the store at like 8:59 and slip in JUST before they close the door AND OH FUCK YES JESUS LOOK WHAT I FIND WAITING FOR ME ON THE SHELF!

Trying to decide what sort of character to create for my first playthrough.

I tend to enjoy making my very first character in any given RPG a facsimile of myself in the game world, and roleplay making decisions I would make in such situations. For me, it deepens the sense of exploration for the first go-round.

So I'm deciding between Warrior and Rogue. I'm going into the game as blind as possible, so I don't know all the ins and outs of the subclasses and whatnot. Warrior because the old sword and board style is so fun to play, but it's also very vanilla, and I'm leaning heavily towards bard because it suits my real personality better (not the backstabbing, spying aspects, mind you -- more the musician, eloquent speech and non-balls-out fighter aspects).

But with both Zevran and Leliana both being rogues, I don't want to gimp my potential group line-ups, and I do want some variety in combat options. Hmmm.

Edit: I wonder how well a sword and shield-wielding Bard would play.

I'm wondering how well roleplaying will work out in this game. I tend to get stopped up by mechanical limitations. Sometimes it's just the lack of appropriate dialogue options, sometimes it's "I have to do WHAT to get the exceedingly useful ability/item?"

You don't need to take Zevran and Leliane with you all the time though. There are also plenty of warrior type companions.

A rogue can't learn any of the sword and shield talents, so I doubt trying to use shields as a rogue would work very well.

EDIT: Check out my awesome new location.

I've always hated using rogues or making rogues as characters in these types of RPGs. It always seemed like a giant waste of time to get in the right place for a backstab or set up traps forcing you to lure the monsters too them.

Maybe its my personality that is pro-efficiency when killing shit as much as possible and as soon as possible. Without any real spoilers, is the rogue in Dragon Age much different?
