    So yeah... fuck phoenix.

Its really fun, and the Firefly mod makes it really powerful. But it kills me more than any mob ever has. It explodes barrels and because its a DoT it makes them explode nearly instantaneously. Bandit hideouts are havens for barrels, the fuckers are everywhere. Its the worst when you see it in your peripheral vision, but you don't have enough time to get away.

I finish a massive fight, one where I go into Fight for Life a few times. I decide to hide behind a building to reload and make sure that there aren't any more enemies coming. All of a sudden there's a big explosion behind me and I bleed out. Turns out that I hid behind a Jakobs oil tank and phoenix was still ticking away.

I think I'll respec controller until I have strong enough shields to absorb the barrels damage. Unless barrel damage scales, which I think it does.

I am loving the game so far. 30 Siren.

    Beat it.
So Hyperion, who we already know has opened a Vault before, was behind the whole thing? So... they're good guys?

Last boss was pretty easy. I hope the DLC adds another epic boss that's:
    1. Hard as hell
    2. Farmable for equipment

It's hinted at very early. Not sure if they flat out spell it out or not -- basically Hyperion's the most advanced and richest of the corps, because they found... SOMETHING in a ruins. That's why everyone's so hell for leather for Pandora.

    Man, Gamespy sucks.

Good thing my friends and I use hamachi. Wouldn't work with anything but 1.0.1.5 though

I don't know why, but 1.0.1.5 seems to be the answer to every hamachi problem ever. It's like the developers decided to make it shittier and shittier with every subsequent release.

Wait...I thought that was Atlas, which is why their guns are so good.
EDIT: Apparently, what I was thinking of is Tannis' "Day 1" recording (which can be heard in your ECHO log) about how Atlas found alien technology on Prometheus.

Yeah Atlas is currently the top dog since they found some doohickeys elsewhere that really gave 'em a shot in the arm, though
there's really no reason to think they actually found a vault like at the endgame since you don't hear about any eldritch monster abominations eating half the galaxy or something after Atlas found it. Most likely it was some Eridian guns and artifacts and stuff.

All of this is making me wonder what Gearbox is going to do for the sequal, because I refuse to believe that this game isn't going to sell stupidly well seeing as it's Diablo meets Mad Max. Maybe they'll do some kind of interplanetary sort of thing where you can bum around between different planets and stations and whatnot taking jobs and advancing the plot ala Freelancer? A player ship to trick out and basically act as a sort of meta-buggy to do crap in space with would be interesting, not to mention add a whole new level of gear generation and scavving.

Probably got their own bit of alien swag as well - heck, I'd be willing to wager that ALL of the manufacturers got their hands on some Eridian goodies at one point or another hence why they're so influential and can pump shit out at a mind-boggling rate and power curve.

From what I've gathered, the only companies that have anything interesting about them plot-wise are Dahl (Tannis works for them), Atlas (found alien technology, sells "rare" guns), and Jakobs (I assume they're special in the new DLC coming up since the interview specifically mentioned how they wanted to explore the companies further, and the the screen-cap says "Jakobs Cove").

    Regarding companies:
Hyperion owns the "guardian angel" satellite at the end.
And Dahl was responsible for the settling of Pandora for mining.

A speculative rundown of Pandora history. . . (feel free to point out shit that is wrong/missing)
Okay, so the Dhal Corporation originally had a very large and (supposedly) profitable mining operation on Pandora. Tannis is sent to Pandora by the Dhal Corporation to find evidence of aliens having been on the planet and hopefully find some tech. Some months later Dhal closes down their mining operation, Tannis finds this insane citing that the operation has been very lucrative for the company. Near as I can tell no reason is given as to why they left. Since Dhal has left Pandora all the the convicts they have been using as a workforce are now free. At some point Atlas moves onto the planet. I think Commandant Steele mentions that the Atlas company are the administrators of the planet. Eventually the Vault Hunter arrives on Pandora.

From when Tannis first arrives on Pandora to when you arrive on Pandora is about 2-3 years I would say. Her recordings cover about 2 years and I do not think it is too long after her last recording that you arrive.

    Now on to the corporations:
Atlas Company found alien tech before and are now the king shits. Atlas seems to run Pandora. They also operate the ECHO system and perhaps the Commerce network as well. Crimson Lance is their own private military.

Dhal Corporation originally had a large mining operation on Pandora and may have even been the administrators of the planet. They also seem to have run waste management for Pandora. Eventually they up and leave the planet leaving behind a large, convict heavy workforce.

Hyperion operates the New-U and Fast Travel stations as well as being the people who built the Guardian Angel. Whether or not the Guardian Angel is actually "working for" Hyperion remains to be seen.

And thats all I can think of at the moment.

Also, we only see one part of Pandora.

I have the exact same gun only with 87 damage and 11.something fire rate. Funnily enough, I was still thinking I didn't use SMGs enough until I checked the proficiency of it, it's at 15 when the rest of the stuff is at 10s or below.

I thought we all agreed that the story of this game is:

"A long time ago, in a Galaxy far far away, guns were developed. Guns that shoot bullets that kill people.
On the planet Pandora there are lots of people and they are angry at each other, but especially at you.
You are the Vault Hunter and you have guns. And bullets."

I've got a newbie question regarding Mordekai and sniping. I was playing duo yesterday with a buddy. I'm playing as Mordekai and I was enjoying the game in-general, but I was unsatisfied with the early game sniping opportunities. I'm level 13 or 14 now, and I feel like my points in Mord's sniper tree are by and large wasted. I spend more time with my pistol out than I do with my sniper rifle.

There are just so many quick melee enemies. It takes very little time for the Skags to get into melee range of me, rendering my long-range advantage useless. Sure, I can probably take down one or two of them. But then the other 3 or 4 of them are crawling all over me. And then there are the huge ones like the fire skags that are pretty much impossible to bring down before they get into range.

On top of that, it seems like most of the bandits have a rather large supply of melee guys as well. I feel like my buddy and I are fighting more Psychos than anything else.

Later in the game do I get a chance to do more sniping? Or should I just respec into the pistol tree since that's what I end up using most of the time anyway?

Sniping seems more useful in co-op. Get your team-mates to aggro them and then snipe their backs. I do okay with solo sniping though.

Then again, I've found a sniper which can 1-2 shot a person by burning them. <3 Depends on your gear too I guess.

For quick melee guys, just snipe them when they're chasing at you. Perfect for a head shot. Or switch to close combat weapons.

Level 50 Gunslinger Mordecai here. Obviously I prefer the pistols, but Sniper is a good skill tree too (especially when paired with Bloodwing). I think you just need to get out of the skag-fest that seems to be the first 20 levels.

Once you get out of Fyrestone, you'll encounter a lot more ranged enemies. Also, once you start getting up there in levels you'll be finding sniper rifles with crazy fire rate which will allow you to start shooting from the hip better.
