Metal Drift - Vehicular Combat from Tribes 2 Vets

We've got a new game just released on Steam. I think y'all might like it:

Metal Drift is a unique combination of racing, combat, and sports. Two teams of hovertanks battle it out in futuristic arena combat. Players scream through the arenas at high speeds to drive the ball to the other team's goal -- hopefully without getting blown up along the way.

Tanks can be configured in 56 combinations of weapons and upgrades to take on many different roles. Go Stealth and try and outflank, or go Sensor and snipe from a distance. Players can level up to unlock new equipment. Check out the Stats and Leaderboards for bragging rights.

I've been eyeing this game for awhile. It looks like a shiny new version of T-Mek, the old multiplayer tank-deathmatch arcade game.

Anyone tried the demo? Does it have multiplayer?

Thanks for approving! We don't have a giant marketing budget, so we have to go direct to the fans.

Yes the demo has multiplayer support.

There may be a non-steam demo in a few months.

I tried the demo a few days ago. Is there a 3rd person view? I just thought that this style of game might be more suited to OTS view instead of First Person. Allows you to keep a better track of your surroundings and your turret orientation.

Or maybe I just haven't played enough with the controls.

We don't (yet) have 3rd person view in there. It does take some getting used to for sure, but it's worth it once you get it down (more accurate).

It is really a great game.

Fast pace and full of action. Also has a great announcer.

Worth at least trying the Demo out =D

The controls take a little to get use to but give it a couple hrs and you will be flying around the maps blasting Red tanks all day long =D

Well I was never really in the Tribes "scene". Closest I got was playing Tribes: Vengeance (singleplayer). It was a pretty decent campaign actually.

This game really needs more attention. It's addictive enough to tear me away from NeoTokyo, which is saying something.

Wow I loved the tutorial but goddamn am I lagging during online play. Gotta lead the shots by so much. Probably because I'm playing against yanks? Who knows, put me off the game though Still, recommend checking out the demo for NA/Canadian peeps.

Yah, its lacking an AU server but there are European servers in place already. You can also host your own server ^_^

You can also play with bots, which isn't as interesting as people admittedly, but it works.

nicely done, it is one of the major reasons i clicked on the thread.

I loved tribes and tribes 2, and still play both.

This game looks freakin sweet, grabbin the demo now.

Ah, well there you go. I'll extend my recommendation to Europe also I hope a 3rd person perspective isn't far off, that would be freaking sweet in this game.

I actually think 3rd person view would take away from the game because the inside cockpit is just so well done.

I wasn't meant to imply that the cockpit view wasn't good, it'd just be a nice option to have I think.

We're continuing to update the game, post launch. It's great to see people getting better than us so quickly. The insane combat mayhem is exceeding my expectations.

We're really glad people are liking the game, and look forward to refining it further based on everyone's suggestions.
