Friend texted me about this, so far he hasn't responded his source, but wiki has some entry of it at the bottom:
A larger version of the DSi with bigger screens, known as the DSi XL (DSi LL in Japan), was announced on October 29, 2009[103] and will be released in Japan on November 21, 2009 and in North America and Europe in Early 2010.
Anyone heard about this? Thoughts?
EDIT Looks like the boys in the video game sales thread are already on top of it. Deserves it's own thread. Will update OP later.

The rumors are true. Today, at Nintendo's press event in Tokyo, the company announced a revised version of the Nintendo DS.
Dubbed the Nintendo DSi LL, the new portable will feature a 4.2 inch screen. Priced at ¥20,000 (US$220) the DSi LL will be released on November 21. The "LL" refers to the extra large size.
The redesign comes at the request of customers who said they wanted a larger screen, and the screen is a 93 percent increase over the DS Lite's screen size — the number of pixels is the same, however. The DSi LL is geared for those who want to use their Nintendo handheld for internet and as a music player as the larger screen is able to display letters and characters in a bigger font.
The DSi LL is bundled with two touch pens: one shorter and one longer touch pen (129.3mm), and comes will three DSiWare titles pre-installed: Two brain training games (one for humanities, the other for sciences) and DS Easy Dictionary. Releasing in three colors, the DSi LL will be available in Dark Brown, Wine Red and Natural White.
It would be nice for a few games (Elite Beat and Trauma Center spring to mind).
edit: but if you already have GBA games, then you must have something to play them right? So why not just get a DSi... then you can play all the DS and DSi games you cant play now.

So now you can't even buy another GBA, since it doesn't play ds OR dsi games.
Likewise this is why I can't buy a ps3. Doesn't play betamax.
At that rate they should've gone just a little bit thicker and put the GBA slot back in!
Anyway, it's strange, aside from the "waaah another version Nintendo omg" comments, I've seen pretty positive reaction to this. I think I'm even kind of jealous. Normally you don't want things to get larger but this would help a lot for stuff like Flipnote Studio that uses the touchscreen a bunch.
I'm still not happy about the lack of GBA port, like everyone else ever, but the larger screen might actually be reason enough to upgrade. I'll just keep my DS Lite around for GBA games.

Really? I was sad to move from my original DS to a DS Lite because it was smaller, I have large hands and enjoy it when electronics actually fit them (like the Duke for the oXbox).

Smaller is all I ever see and hear from companies and the public. iPods, netbooks, smaller models of this and that. It's just what I expect. Even Nintendo has always gone smaller.

I think this is a good move for them though.
I think that smaller is always better for electronics except when it comes to screens. I can't get behind netbooks because I want the biggest screen I can get.
So, I like this XL thing. A 1-inch screen upgrade? Yes, please. I wasn't interested in the DSi but this I will get.

Kind of offtopic but I love netbooks, I can trade screen size for carryability. Smaller than a typical novel is amazing. And it's not like the resolution makes things even smaller, most netbooks read the same as normal laptops, you're just seeing a quarter of the screen.
What we need to satisfy us both is screens that fold out from 9" to 18".
I didn't get a DSi, so I am kind of interested in this as something I can use at home. Then I can take my regular DSlite out with me since it is smaller.
So, DSi XL is basically the original DS size with a larger screen and with the updated DS body?
I'd still pick the DSi over it. I like my gadgets tiny. It's not like the bigger screens will up the resolution. Also, dark brown, really?
The dark brown and wine red (or Famicom red, if you think about it) are both beautiful, I think.
As someone who owns a DSi now, I don't feel particularly pissed about this, since all it does is make the screens bigger. No extra functionality, plus I still question how screens that are that much bigger while still the same resolution will actually make games look. It's great for older people who will want bigger screens to read, though.

To me it looks even smaller, maybe because of the juxtaposition next to a bigger screen.
I wonder how this compares in size to that; it appears to be similar.
I want to play my GBA games, but if I get a regular DS then I miss out on games that are DSi only.
If I get the DSi then I lose my GBA games.

With Nintendo it's technically both.

Look I'm sorry but Donkey Kong posting in a Nintendo related thread about his huge hands just makes me immediately think joke account.

Unfortunately, this is the fourth DS iteration.
Count the GBA player and it all lines up again!
