Hrrrm. I loved the Queen and old Motown remixes, it seems like there aren't gonna be many of those kind of tracks in DJ2.

This turned out to be a very very very VERY worthwhile $20 spent. Great soundtrack and a lot of fun to boot.

So wow. SUPER impressed with the demo.

    Like - can't believe I'm this impressed.

    PROS:

Holy shit I love the interface now. Gone is the ugly, graffitti inspired, "cards" way of looking at things. I always thought it was ugly as hell. Now it's so sleek it's amazing. Everything from the menus to the actual overlay (I love the "now playing" when the songs start) is just way, way cleaner and easier to navagate.

The actual gameplay has significantly improved. I feel like once you learn the mixes, it will be WAY cooler. It just gives you so much control over the track now, as opposed to the first one. The samples are all actual SAMPLES from the song - not a preselected sample pack like the first game. So it varies, and once you learn what samples show up where, it will be way cooler.

By FAR the neatest thing ever is the sections where you ARE ACTUALLY CROSSFADING WHENEVER YOU WANT. One track on one side, the other on the other, and you can freely cut between the two. Since I wasn't aware of it, and wasn't really sure what side contained what, my little freestyle sections sounded like ass. But a second play through I was pretty proud of what I was making. It gives you a great amount of creativity.

This is a sequel that really does go head and shoulders above the previous game.

I was going to list CONS, but honestly the only one I have is the mixes don't seem to interest me as much as the previous game - but after thinking about it, Ive only heard 2, so I really shouldn't judge yet.

It's a good demo, once that has me ready to buy the game. I like the new freestyle touches they added a lot.

I think they must have changed the window for letting go of the button on the scratches, though. It's like the game would prefer if you let go early rather than just after the scratch is complete.

    Oh God this demo

mxmarks was right on the money. I especially love the addition of the line on the star meter that says "Here is your highest score on this song" as you're playing, really thoughtful addition there

I disagree about the mixes, I think both sound really, really good, it's just that one of them was free DLC for the first DJ Hero so I've already played it to death (<3 Lady Gaga)

But yeah the Pussycat Dolls mix was pretty badass

WP: What about the hardware? The consistent complaint about the original DJ Hero was the slider didn't have a very defined center point, so it was easy to overshoot the center point. Are there any plans to release an updated controller with a little more response in the slider?

DG: We're actually keeping the same hardware as DJ Hero 1. There were some complaints — and there always are with any product — the overall response was mostly pretty positive in how it simplified the DJ experience for everybody, so we were pretty happy with that. We're going to stick with the same hardware. You're going to see a minor tweak in one of our party bundles. The hardware is going to come out with slightly different colors, but the same functionality is going to be there. It's still a young franchise, and people are still kind of figuring it out, and a lot of people haven't heard of it yet. We're sticking with the hardware we have for now, and we're happy about that.

Psh, only one mix featuring M.I.A.? LAME.

Other than that, this all sounds pretty solid, other than a return of the "lazy mixes" in which they're using a song mixed with a song that it already samples ("O.P.P." with "ABC" just like how the first game had "Ain't No Love" with "Heart of the City" and "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" with "I Want You Back")
Lady Gaga - "Bad Romance" Remix
Gorillaz ft. Mos Def & Bobby Womack - "Stylo" (Remix by FSG)
Sam Cooke - "Chain Gang" (Remix by FSG)
Stevie Wonder - "Superstition" Mixed With Edwin Starr - "War"

YES YES this is what I want

Also I'm glad they're using "Get Ur Freak On", thought that would have been a more obvious choice for the first game, though I really do prefer the remix with Nelly Furtado that was on the Tomb Raider soundtrack

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYlUvkosuCo

I can't think about all this too long

I really cannot wait for this game and technically can afford it on release, I'm just wondering how long I will be able to use DJ Hero 2 for sustenance instead of food

    And THREE Gaga tracks, yes

WP: You've got a multiplayer versus mode. Will there be a single-player, two-turntable mode where you've got six buttons and two turntables scratching, or is that still for the next game?

DG: We've got to save a little bit for the sequel, so we haven't gone that deep into it for the second iteration, but we're always thinking big for the next one, so who knows next year?

I've seen conflicting info on whether or not I'll be able to export DJ Hero songs into DJ Hero 2, or at least the DLC. I wanna know whether I can ditch the original when it releases and still be able to play some of the awesome tracks in the updated interface.

I'm guessing due to the updated workings of freestyle sections that there would be some work involved in making the songs forward-compatible, but it would be a shame to lose the DLC or original songs due to being tied to a inferior product.

Has anyone seen any news either way, aside from the vague answer in the worthplaying article from back in August?

I bought it for my girlfriend today and she's playing it right now. We bought it at Best Buy and they gave us what appears to be the stand from the expensive version of DJ Hero 1 for free. Had a pile of them they were handing out with each purchase...and we were the only people buying it apparently.

I wonder if this one is going to bomb as fast as the first.

Looks like she's having fun though, much better song selection.

nope. doubles means to use both 1p and 2p together as one controller.

ddr has it, dance maniax has it, keyboard mania has it, taiko drummaster has it, beatmania has it, and dj hero does not have it. really annoyed when "2 turntables and a microphone" did not mean doubles, considering that's how djs work
