It's a good demo, once that has me ready to buy the game. I like the new freestyle touches they added a lot.
I think they must have changed the window for letting go of the button on the scratches, though. It's like the game would prefer if you let go early rather than just after the scratch is complete.
mxmarks was right on the money. I especially love the addition of the line on the star meter that says "Here is your highest score on this song" as you're playing, really thoughtful addition there
I disagree about the mixes, I think both sound really, really good, it's just that one of them was free DLC for the first DJ Hero so I've already played it to death (<3 Lady Gaga)

WP: What about the hardware? The consistent complaint about the original DJ Hero was the slider didn't have a very defined center point, so it was easy to overshoot the center point. Are there any plans to release an updated controller with a little more response in the slider?
DG: We're actually keeping the same hardware as DJ Hero 1. There were some complaints — and there always are with any product — the overall response was mostly pretty positive in how it simplified the DJ experience for everybody, so we were pretty happy with that. We're going to stick with the same hardware. You're going to see a minor tweak in one of our party bundles. The hardware is going to come out with slightly different colors, but the same functionality is going to be there. It's still a young franchise, and people are still kind of figuring it out, and a lot of people haven't heard of it yet. We're sticking with the hardware we have for now, and we're happy about that.
Other than that, this all sounds pretty solid, other than a return of the "lazy mixes" in which they're using a song mixed with a song that it already samples ("O.P.P." with "ABC" just like how the first game had "Ain't No Love" with "Heart of the City" and "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" with "I Want You Back")

YES YES this is what I want
Also I'm glad they're using "Get Ur Freak On", thought that would have been a more obvious choice for the first game, though I really do prefer the remix with Nelly Furtado that was on the Tomb Raider soundtrack
I really cannot wait for this game and technically can afford it on release, I'm just wondering how long I will be able to use DJ Hero 2 for sustenance instead of food
WP: You've got a multiplayer versus mode. Will there be a single-player, two-turntable mode where you've got six buttons and two turntables scratching, or is that still for the next game?
DG: We've got to save a little bit for the sequel, so we haven't gone that deep into it for the second iteration, but we're always thinking big for the next one, so who knows next year?

The freestyle cross fade sections are awesome. Each track has indicators on when vocals start and finish so fading into and out on specific lines from a song is real easy and sounds awesome.
I've seen conflicting info on whether or not I'll be able to export DJ Hero songs into DJ Hero 2, or at least the DLC. I wanna know whether I can ditch the original when it releases and still be able to play some of the awesome tracks in the updated interface.
I'm guessing due to the updated workings of freestyle sections that there would be some work involved in making the songs forward-compatible, but it would be a shame to lose the DLC or original songs due to being tied to a inferior product.
Has anyone seen any news either way, aside from the vague answer in the worthplaying article from back in August?
I bought it for my girlfriend today and she's playing it right now. We bought it at Best Buy and they gave us what appears to be the stand from the expensive version of DJ Hero 1 for free. Had a pile of them they were handing out with each purchase...and we were the only people buying it apparently.
I wonder if this one is going to bomb as fast as the first.
Looks like she's having fun though, much better song selection.

I don't know if they changed the way scratching zones are on songs, but for for the life of me my combo is broken in every one. They are either really really strict about the way you scratch or I'm doing something completely wrong. I noticed this in the demo too.:x
nope. doubles means to use both 1p and 2p together as one controller.
ddr has it, dance maniax has it, keyboard mania has it, taiko drummaster has it, beatmania has it, and dj hero does not have it. really annoyed when "2 turntables and a microphone" did not mean doubles, considering that's how djs work

Just got DJ hero for a steal and the only con I have is the terrible looking characters. Or at least it'll be a con till I unlock Daft punk.
But now the retarded Gold timed exclusivity is over, and I am downloading the demo
So looking forward to this

I really want to
But Activision were basically being dum-dums when they decided to release this a week before Rock Band 3
This, combined with my deep Activision hatred, means as fantastic as this looks, I'll wait until it hits $20...

but there are too many awesome games coming out so i'll wait a year for this one to hit $30 too
I called around to my local Target stores but the only ones that have the bundle in-house still want 69.99 for it.
Blah. Maybe Black Friday will see the return of the 30$ turn table?
