Quick question about Company of Heroes Gold edition

Alright, you might remember me from a previous thread where I requested some computer help. I got it fixed, so I'd like to give thanks to everyone who helped me.

Now, my problem now is that I have a Company of Heroes Gold Edition CD key. The gold edition comes with the original game and Opposing Fronts. However, my disk is fucked up, every time I try to install it it gives me an error about setup.exe or something being corrupted.

Now all I have is a CD key, wondering whether this will work on a stand alone version of either Company of Heroes or Opposing Fronts. my question here is, will it?

Excuse me for any grammar mistakes, I haven't quite woken up yet.

You might be able to enter the key in Steam, have you tried that?

Well I went to Games>Activate a Product on Steam and I put in my CD key but it says it is invalid. I went to the support site and it says that only certain games can be downloaded via Steam if I have the cd key, and CoH Gold is not one of them (they had a list).

Email the company and they will probably replace the disc. I cracked a Baldur's Gate II disc once and got it replaced by sending the cracked disc in along with $5.

I have CoH and the first expansion, bought separately. i got the expansion first, because it was on clearance. Later, when I bought the base game, I had just gotten a Macbook Pro and put Windows on it, so I had to reinstall the game, i was having issues with the regular games CD, and so I installed with the expansion CD, and with all the updates there was a button in the main menu to unlock other copies/expansions. I put in the CD key and it gave me access to all the original stuff.

In short, CoH, regardless of versions, all end up with the same data if it's patched, that why you can play online games with any one part against anyone else, no matter which separate expansion you have. So if someone only has the original CoH and nothing else, if they patch it, they technically already have all the data for the two expansions, and just need to enter the key to unlock it.

EDIT: Don't know if that helps, or if the Gold Edition has anything different going on with it.

I believe the answer is yes, your CD key works fine with any CoH disc, but I can't guarantee it. If any of your friends have CoH it'll be pretty easy to just, like, try it, right?

It would be, but I ask so I can save a 4.50 bus ride just to get the CD and come home to see the CD key doesn't work for it.
