Elona Shooter flash game (yes, Elona like the roguelike)

So the guy that made the roguelike Elona has also decided to make a castle defense shooter game in flash. This is easily the best castle defense flash game I've played.

http://www.kongregate.com/games/noanoa/elona-shooter

There's different classes to choose from, strong RPG elements, different weapon types with their own advantages and disadvantages, a party system where your party has their own stats and weapons... it's just incredibly well designed.

One of the cooler aspects, you can earn medals (achievements) for completing certain goals, such as surviving a certain number of days, owning enough chickens, having enough explosive sisters (you read that correctly), etc. The medals will provide small bonuses that carry on to other games, so it benefits you to start from the beginning with new characters. Don't worry, there's eight save slots for you.

If you like Elona, you need to try this. If you don't like Elona, fuck you, and you need to try this. If you've never played Elona, you need to try this, then go download Elona and try that too. I guess if you enjoy castle defense games, you'll also want to try this.

Fair warning, this is balls hard compared to other flash castle defense games. It even has a hardcore option for those who absolutely love the typical roguelike system of permadeath. For your first play, I definitely suggest casual mode to make the game a bit easier.

No, but there is a usable ragnarok item. There's also a medal for surviving it.

This is pretty much the awesomest tower defence ever

Starting as a Militia is hard as fuck though, seriously

I'm on day like 11-ish and I am just roadblocked

    Hints anyone?

The difficulty of the game seems to spike sharply after day 10. Then there's the fact that money gets much harder to earn as the game goes on. The only character I can actually afford upgrades on is the rogue, since you can get guaranteed money if you have good aim. I don't really know what to do though, the waves seem to scale up faster than you can.

When you reach level 10 (class level, not day 10), you unlock a new class. There's a total of 8 classes.

The noble class is rather ridiculous, getting an extra 40% experience (hit level 5 by the end of day 2), and starting off with an uzi that has a level 3 accuracy mod. Their accuracy and damage also increases as their level increases, and they start off at level 1 in all weapon classes. They also get the bow master feat, which works wonderfully with bowguns (causes the arrows to pierce multiple targets - one extra target per level of the feat - and can hit the same enemy multiple times).

So far the Hunter and Sheriff seem the easiest classes to play, mostly because both their starting weapons have little or no reload time.

I wonder why somebody hasn't made a retail game like this with higher production values. These defender type games are just pure crack.

So I'm finding most success using the smg. The crossbow isn't bad, but it can be difficult to aim.

Small arms are pretty much crap compared to everything else. crossbows are good for the lack of reloading and piercing, but you'll prolly need to mod in some damage. What's been working for me is the hunting rifle. decent damage, high accuracy, and with a lvl 1 auto load mod, bottomless ammo so long as you pace yourself.

Some weapons work "better" on enemies. I think the long bow is key for dragonflies, high arch, and you can spam it pretty quickly. Don't bother trying to shoot at them with a pistol or machine gun, just focus on the battlefield if you don't have the long bow.

The laser pistol is my boss/catapult? gun, just use it sparingly as it has a long reload time.

I really don't know what to do past level 12ish though. I think a lot of it depends on the loot you get. I heard one of the "hidden" classes has a sick xp bonus, so I'll try and unlock that (play as one of the starting 4 classes and get to lv. 10).

If you buy 30 chickens, you get a medal that rewards you with 5% egg revenue. There's 2 more after that, but I don't know how many chickens you have to buy.

I just got this by way of searching through town, but I also discovered that you don't actually get the medal until you buy something from the tower screen (doesn't have to be chickens).

Also fireworks medal is pretty easy to get~

Thirty percent more egg revenue for 120 chickens. Working on the sisters right now.

Pay attention to your recruits abilities, focus on the ones you want to upgrade (got a new shotgun they're three levels too low for, focus on shotties), and mix and match their abilities to cover your weaknesses. They're more than just extra firepower.

Also, hold on to weapons that are of a type you or your recruits are using that have 3 mod slots (highest amount). You can reforge the weapon to remove the last mod (right most one), and upgrade it to the next model in the process.
