I may or may not be making a rogue next play through :P
I'm definitely making a rogue on the next go-round. I had no idea how many locked doors and chests I'd be bumping into and for whatever reason Bioware decided not to include a "smash lock" option for people who aren't/don't have rogues.

Also, I need to figure out how to do the 'pause and command' thing on the 360. Everyone's on auto-fight mode and it's starting to get me killed. Lots.

Also also: why can't I use injury kits from the inventory screen? Grr.

Ya, they need a bash lock. My inability to smash through doors with my bezerker warrior makes my ELF ANGRY!

How do I make my guys automatically attack

Turn their behavior to Aggresive. They will run after whatever.
I can have morrigan pick up tempest

That is an aggro magnet I've found. Truly to had to control unless you've already mass rooted a group of enemies far away from your party. I found spending points on Morrigans entropy tree (to weaken enemies) and then going into Bear form a much better use of her talents, leaving the primal damage to my main mage.

RE: Rogues - you pick up Leliana fairly early. Yes there are a TON Of locked chests in the beginning, but what could they have held really. The only thing about Leliana is that shes not as utilitarian as others and so you kind of feel gimped with her in your party.

So far I'm liking my Dwarf Commoner Rogue. One amazingly nice thing about this game is that it's not constantly all on the main character. So my main being a little less directly powerful is fine since he opens locks looks for traps, sneaks behind people for backstabs or tossing explosives or what have you. So him not being the last man standing isn't necessarily the worst thing. Also, this game is kind of hard. I look forward to trying Nightmare later.

    .

I did set them to aggressive. No dice. It's most likely the hold place thing that was mentioned earlier. I'll take a look when I get back in game.

Aggro so far it's been a non-issue for me as both the MC and Morrigan have several mass stuns and disables. And I can pick up aggro off her no problem. I'm perfectly all right with my mage MC basically pissing everyone off. I can always play "ring around the Alistair / dog."

I can just reserve her tempest use for when I want to unleash a SotC.

I like your idea of having her become a debuffer. That should help my arcane mage out when he wants to beat things down the old fashioned (but magically enhanced) way.

Now that I think about it I am sort of playing him the same way I played my Frost mage in WoW.

I guess that shows how well the npcs are crafted towards different playthroughs, I'd consider myself as doing a "good" playthrough, in that I tend to kill anyone evil and help people who need it, for doing this morrigans approval is through the roof and leilani is quite deep in the negatives D: The fact that I hate the chantry and tell them to basically fuck off at every opportunity may also be a contributing factor
Playing as a mage, my character doesn't have an entirely positive view of the Chantry either. Though I'm not gonna go out of my way to be rude to them either. Maybe that helps.

Still, I can't imagine a playthrough where Morrigan would look more favourably on random acts of kindness than Leliana. It doesn't really seem to fit with either of them.

Oh well, maybe I'll find out later after all.

I watched that review, I actually found it pretty informative. I don't think they were bitching about the length so much as they were just noting it - it is pretty significant given the lack of similarly-deep and involving RPGs these days (on consoles at least).

Argh, can't decide on a character. I played through both the Human Noble origin and the Dwarf Commoner origin, and I'll give Mage a shot when I get back from work.

I do not like being assigned skills and talents at the start AT ALL. My Dwarf Commoner sword-and-board (eventual Templar + Champion) warrior is going to be stuck with one rank in Dual Weapons and one rank in Stealing his whole fucking career, but if I chose Dwarf Noble, whose origin doesn't appeal to me at all, I'd start with an extra rank in Combat Training and a Shield talent. What a crock.

    So quick question:
I have this for the 360. I installed to the HDD and after about 10 min. of playing, my screen gets a yellow haze. This carries over to the dash as well. It's not the TV and I have not seen this before with any other game. Is the video card on the 360 just coincidentally starting to crap out?

ugh my local BestBuy had an inventory error and only had french copies (not labelled as french). I got home put it in and I was all wtf. I go back to the store and at least they knew about the error so they accepted all opened copies and refunded me. Their next shipment is only in a week. So I picked it up at Futureshop.

Warning to canadians buying this game, make sure the back of the box has no french on it. BestBuy now keeps new games locked up behind the cash registers so you can't tell until after they get it for you.

Yes my last xbox did this, also got green squares. It was basically a E74 that never gave me the error so microsoft did not want to honor the warranty extension. Restarting the console after would just give me a black screen until the system cooled off.

Expect to die. A lot. And you will be punished for your character builder mistakes by the monsters bending you over the table and violating you repeatedly.

Basically, play smart and have a concept for what TYPE of character you want to play before you pick abilities. Want a sword-and-board fighter? Every ability you pick should reflect that.

Couldn't agree more. I think it's a refreshing change of pace personally, but they probably just wanted to note it for those people (and I'm not knocking these folks for the record) who might've gone into this expecting Fable or even Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance levels of depth and time investment.

So the videos I've seen of this game make it look kind of ugly and clunky. Like, the character models look like they are from five or ten years ago and the environments looked kind of bland. How does it look in actual play? Is it distracting or easy to overlook?

Hopefully dwarf beards look better.
