I dunno what to think about this game. I love nearly everything about it, except for the fact the isometric camera is so retarded. I don't know why I can literally move the camera two feet from a party member. It makes tactical control from that perspective (given the ranges of enemy archers and mages) extremely difficult. Is there a mod to unstick the camera out?

I've never used the isometric camera yet, and I'm around or over 30 hours into the game. I love being it close to my characters, to see the level design in all its glory, and often I've found it easier to engage enemies from the third person camera. To each his own, though.

In addition to the crapload of drakes in the temple (which gave me six scales) I recall there being a handful in the mage tower, though I didn't get any scales there. They might have been the baby ones, though. I forget.

I fought a crapload of them in the temple, none in the mages tower, but they didn't drop enough scales to create both sets of drake armor. It's kind of infuriating! I hope I find more drakes, but it seems unlikely.

Oh, and to the guy in the temple who doesn't want to lose a character, but doesn't want to run all the way back to the entrance to swap characters, the console (PC version) also allows you to bring up the party member selection screen. It might save you some time and frustration that way.

I might wait until they are released to keep playing it. The game is just not enjoyable when I can't look at everything I want to and have to switch constantly between 3rd person/isometric. When in reality I should be able to just scroll the camera, observe whatever I want and then pretty much play the game like BG2. Hopefully someone will mod that in soon and save my sanity, because I like just about everything else in the game but this absolutely ruins the entire game for me.

All new copies of the game include The Stone Prisoner downloadable content, featuring a new companion (Shale, a dwarven golem), new quests, new items, and new environments. It can be bought separately for a price of 15 USD.
Is this included if you buy the game on Steam?
    Yes.

Are you sure? I got the regular steam edition and I still have the stone prisoner listed as buyable, and no mention of the dragon armor.

With the Steam purchase, it pops up your codes every time you launch the game. All you have to do is click on the DLC button on the main menu, click redeem, and fill in the information on the site it takes you to. Very, very easy. Oh and then download them (its done in game) and restart the game.

I think I might restart the game with a different character on hard, now that I have a better feel for the mechanics. So far I've only completed the Circle of the Magi and part of the Redcliffe storyline.

The best tactic for thinning enemy groups is to have Morrigan flank the enemy when they're in a line, hit them with Cone of Cold or Petrify and then shatter them with either Shield Bash/Pummel or Stonefist (though sometimes crits will work).

It doesn't usually work on yellow or red enemies though.

Cone of Cold is one of Morrigan's fastest recharging spells, so this tactic can be used frequently in a battle. (Stonefist however takes a while to recharge, which is a shame since it's the only sure fire method I've found to shatter an enemy.)

I've gotten through so many fights thanks to this tactic.

Hard mode is insanely fucking difficult from what I've seen. So far I've just been watching my roommate's human warrior character (I'm finishing Mario and Luigi before putting time into this), but every battle he encounters has a decent chance of murdering his party, and some of the harder fights so far seem close to impossible. My dwarven rogue is on hard as well, and I fear that he's thoroughly fucked.

I'll still give it a shot, though.

Hard is a pain in the ass, but it's a terrific challenge. My main problem on hard is the isometric camera is so restricted that I frequently miss important information, like being shot to shit by archers *just* outside where I can move the camera. I now just "snipe" enemies with the 3rd person camera, because if you do it at max distance none of the other enemies react. You can pull enemies off a group and kill them individually to thin them out before an attack this way.

Edit: Hard is mostly extremely unforgiving. Any mistake and you're dead.

Is there any way to play this on Normal without chugging more health pots than exist in the game? I like to think my character is built fairly well, but my whole party just gets wiped out constantly. I always feel like I'm fighting tooth and nail for victory, even on smaller encounters. I'm playing a Sword and Board warrior at about level 10.

Any advice for fighting mages? They're goddamn invincible.

    Abandoned Meadow, specifically.
There's one red Hurlock Emmisary. He might as well be Christ Reborn. He spams fireball and chain lightning, and doesn't give a shit if he burns his people down.

Which would be good, except a fireball or two wipes out my entire goddamn party. I haven't figured out anything I can do to stop him.

Get to the top level of glyphs. All the glyphs are really kickass, but glyph of neutralization is wtfzomghacks against casters. Dispells all buffs/debuffs, neutralizes all effects, drains all mana, prevents spellcasting, and prevents mana regeneration. You can drop it on people really far away too. It's basically a "turn all mages into sub-par archers" button.

    Edit: No resistance check.
Also, aside from the other awesome glyphs, you also get paralysis explosion for free. It's pretty ridiculous.

Okay, so I'm clearing out Redcliffe Castle and I'm pretty sure I've gotten myself into a no-win situation.

The only way to proceed is to go through the cellar (which is a tiny empty room) and into the courtyard. In said courtyard, there are 4 skeleton archers at the top of some stairs, and another 4 or 5 shambling corpses accompanied by a "revenant" (bigass dude) who has the ability to instantly pull to him anybody with line-of-sight. This can be done to the whole party at once.

My best plan has been to go around the outside of the courtyard (stairs block his line of sight), and up the stairs to kill the archers. I've never been able to do this without at least one of my frontline fighters getting pulled by the revenant, and on top of it, have never been able to kill the archers before all the zombies start hurting my manz.

I'm rolling with my (human) primal mage, Alistair, Morrigan, and Sten. Have too few health potions, and eventually take too much damage for them to really matter.

Have made probably 10 or so attempts so far.

I made probably fifteen or so attempts against a dragon during whole werewolf dungeon. It eventually just came down to messing with my companion's tactics until I found a combination of Alistair tanking and potioning, Leiliana Archering, and Morrigan ice/fire/lightninging while I backstabbed the hell out of the thing. Also messing with equipment to get the proper resistances somewhere they were really beneficial.

Run over to the stairs, directly under where the archers are. If you hug the right wall as you do it, it'll keep you out of combat with the zombies up ahead, letting you heal up between fights. This'll cause them to lose line of sight and not be able to fire on you, so they'll run down. You should be able to melee/spell them down without pulling anything from there. After that, save and try to get just the zombies to come without the revenant.

Once everything is dead, then you can take down the revenant by himself.

Glyph of Paralysis + Glyph of Repulsion = paralysis explosion (mass AOE paralysis, lasting a looong time)
Sleep + Horror = Nightmare (seems kinda meh to me)
Greasefire + Blizzard = Quencher (I'm not sure if it actually does anything)
Thunderstorm + Blizzard + Firestorm = Storm of the Century (anything caught in even two of these is already dead anyways)

On the dual wield side, cripple, punisher and riposte will critical and shatter as well.

Edit: Dual wielding feels very powerful in general. Compared to Sten or Oghren with their 2-handed stuff, I easily do twice as much damage. Shields have their own benefits, of course.
