Oh man this game is awesome. The story, characters, cutscenes, everything is just great.
Also (human noble origin)
The fight with the ogre at the top of the tower was fantastic. The way he would kick back at you, grab you, the animations and stuff were just fantastic.
Did you get the sync kill where Alastair jumped up on the ogre and stabbed him in the throat? That was the best.
Alistair had just died when I killed the Ogre--seriously, it was so annoying -- he did that bullshit Grab and Pound move on him, I heal Alistair in the middle of it, realize it won't be enough, go OH SHIT OH SHIT WINTER'S GRASP, it goes off one second after Alistair bit it and killed the damn ogre.
Anyway, the point is, if Alistair's down, one of the generic tower guards will do it instead.
I'm playing a warrior so it was me who did the sync kill. I was all like "oh shit what am I do-OH MY GOD! I AM A BADASS!"
In my playthrough, I'm a Elf Mage and
a nobody guard that joined up just for the tower got the bad ass sync-kill. Alastair must have been on his ass or something, but this guy had just gotten shaken around like crazy and was close to dying, so I guess he deserved to take the ogre out.
All in all, I'm loving this game even on the 360. Not hard at all to give commands to each of my guys and let the game go a few moments, pause again and choose new abilities if needed. Only problem I've had is constantly selecting a door if an enemy isn't exactly in sight.. being stuck on the other side of the door with the baddies is not fun when your warriors are just twiddling their thumbs waiting for the fight to end.
Thank the Maker I have fireball! Threw myself a dozen feet or so, but took out the other bastards also.
JUST when I was beginning to think I was a bad ass... BOOM, a revenant shows up and totally wrecks my shit.
By the way, I'm sure Dragon Age wasn't the first game to do this, but I really appreciate how I don't have to keep recasting my buff spells. It just keeps the required amount of mana deducted at all times until I disable the buff. Its a great feature.
Awww damn. I'm a little disappointed about one thing pertaining to the Human Noble origin story.
You don't get to see your brother again. The king mentioned he was still alive, and you can even mention to your party members you want to search for him, but apparently you don't get to do that or meet him. That's really too bad. It would have been a cool encounter.
So thus far I've only had two gripes, this and the Warden's Keep issue I mentioned earlier. Everything else is amazing. I can't stop playing this game. I'm even excited to start a new playthrough after I beat it to try new classes and new characters. I'm a Human Noble Warrior with a shield and Champion specialization, with Alistair, Wynne, and Leliana in my party. Next I'm going to go with me as a City Elf Rogue and Duelist specialization, with Alistair, Morrigan, and Sten in my party. I feel like talking shit to humans during that playthrough. It should be fun calling the king an idiot to his face.
Oh, and do you guys remember the silly complaining in an earlier thread in relation to the dragon fight video? That fight took place in a swamp. People were nitpicking about how the dragon was so immobile. I just want to say that depending on how large the area is (that swamp was a very small area), dragons will not just stand there. Oh no. This different asshole dragon I fought actually flew around and landed on my party a number of times.

I would like to pause for a moment, to talk about my penis.
My penis is like a toddler. A toddler—who is a perfectly normal size for his age—on a long road trip to what he thinks is Disney World. My penis is excited because he hasn’t been to Disney World in a long, long time, but remembers a time when he used to go every day. So now the penis toddler is constantly fidgeting, whining “Are we there yet? Are we there yet? How about now? Now? How about... now?”
And Disney World is nowhere in sight.

For the DLC - is there any way to manually install it? The default automatic installation is a total failure on my pc for some reason.
A few people were comparing this to Baldur's Gate 2 earlier. I wouldn't mind chiming in with my own opinion. While BG2 did story better, as that game wasn't the classic trope of good fighting and defeating a great evil plaguing the land, I feel much more connected with Dragon Age's world. I didn't really have that connection for BG2's people or its lands or lore. I was very much addicted to my character's quest to find the man who stole his soul, of course, but the setting didn't feel nearly as alive as it does in this game. Perhaps that is because BioWare created their own world, instead of having to work with an existing one.
The histories and legends and stories, people and places, seem so believable and well crafted. This believability helps if you talk to your party members and other characters about the lore of the land. Ask Leliana for stories and talk Zevron and Sten about their homes and people. When you meet the Dalish Elves, listen to the stories they tell of their past. It all just comes together and is written so well. You get a sense that the world is big and old, and beyond just the lands of Ferelden.
It especially hit me when I did the Urn of Sacred Ashes quest. Prior to that, I had heard people describe Andastre, especially a lengthy tale of her life from Leliana. Doing that quest, seeing and hearing the reactions of your religious friends and viewing this temple for yourself and the mysteries within, you can end up getting very lost in what BioWare has created.
Is there a "best" way for a shield warrior to build aggro on a target, or do they just snap away from him once they take enough damage?
Get the Threaten and Taunt talents. Threaten ensures the enemy you're attacking stays attacking you, and Taunt will have your character scream out and draw enemies to attack you instead of everyone else.

What kind of problems? I don't want to install it if it'll mess up my game. It doesn't seem like any major fixes, though, so perhaps I will hold off. It seems to make the game much easier on Easy and Normal, but so far the game is already quite easy with how I've built my characters and how well equipped they are.

Hmm I am thinking of restarting and I want to play with a "good" party first.
Now I know Alistair, Wynne, and Leliana are good but are there any other characters that act this way? If I partied up with these 3, what class do you think would blend in well? I want to be a rogue but I have a suspicion that one tank, two rogues, and a healer wouldn't cut it.
Is Leliana a good archer at all? I think my rogue would be a dual wielder and feel as though doubling up would screw me over.
As far as I know, some people can't start up the game anymore after installing the patch. This seems to be a minority, though.

Leliana can become the best archer in the game, but apparently her dual wielding skills meld better with her Bard skills. Don't let that deter you, though. I fully imagine you'd be fine going with Alistair, Wynne, Leliana, and yourself as a rogue. You can have Leliana snipe from the back row, Wynne heal, Alistair build threat and keep everyone focused on him with the Threaten and Taunt talents, and you as a melee rogue (I recommend Duelist) dancing around and backstabbing people.
And at the end of the day, sound strategy wins over the perfect party build. Having fun also matters more. Don't let the mechanics of the game rule how you play too much.

Well, I've run into my first game ending glitch, it's at Redcliffe...
...and the zombies for the last wave when protecting the village won't spawn no matter what I do. So I'm stuck sitting there with my finger up my own ass waiting for something to happen, all the while I got this very LOUD loop music playing in the background like something dramatic is suppose to be happening. Very annoying.
Man, Leliana is meant to be played Dual-wield? She starts out with a shitton of Archery skills.
My only real complaint with the game so far is that your first Warrior skill is pre-chosen. I mean, I guess it's not that gimped if my 2-Hander or my Sword-N-Board guy has a duel-wield skill, but I'll always know it's there.. being suboptimal.
You've tried reloading, of course, Dr.Oblivious? Certainly there's an auto-save right before the battle. My friend has come across a few odd glitches and bugs, too, although nothing so serious. Reloading his current save did not work, but he managed to get the problem fixed by loading an older save and then loading his latest save. Perhaps that will work if nothing else does.
Man, Leliana is meant to be played Dual-wield? She starts out with a shitton of Archery skills.
Not necessarily, no. Leliana starts with a lot of archery skills and she's the best archer in the game, while Zevron starts with a very large amount of dual wielding skills. What I have read, though, here and in the PRIMA guide and from a few QA testers, is that she really becomes a monster with dual wielding in conjunction with her Bard skills. She has a song that increases damage and defense for the whole party, coupled with the quick strikes of daggers (especially rune slotted daggers) and backstabbing, and she probably does more damage than she would with a bow. Either way, she's a great character to have. Go with what you feel is best and what you like. Be it bow or dagger, she'll slay foes just as well with the rest of them.

For those who are saying Leliana should be dual-wielding, that is craaazy talk. Skip getting the last bard talent, and keep her out of battle and alive so she can keep on buffing everyone's damage. Shattering Arrow and Scattershot are amazing skills, and in general she does really good at it.
Also, she has an exclusive item that is the best bow in the game, see below for how to get it.
Do her character quest, you get Marjolaine's Recurve Bow, which is a Tier 7 weapon that beats the super-fantastic Dalish Elf God's bow that you can find. It's also Leliana-specific. She was meant to use bows.

For a rogue, I should focus on Dex and Cun as my main two stats right? Because once at lvl 8 my cunning score will replace my Str?
I was thinking, should I start out with a lower Cunning score say at like 12/14 and move the other points to Str? I would need to get my Str up to 15 - 20 (whatever I need for armour i guess). This way I can use heavier armours earlier in the game and not have any downside.
Oh and one thing I have been having trouble with on my 2H warrior was stamina. I would run out nearly instantly. Will this be a problem on my rogue?

I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.
Random question: Does anyone know if Leliana's song is done by the actual voice actress? I don't think it is, but it is gorgeous nonetheless.
@Avicus, you're going to have stamina issues until you hit level 12 and Dex 36, when you can get two-weapon mastery(assuming you're going dual-wielding.) Willpower is a must.

Dexterity and Cunning are far more important than Strength, yes. Although there were a bunch of people doing all kinds of confusing math trying to figure this out. I'm just going by what I've read in the guide and what I've experienced.
Much of the Rogue's talents require high Dexterity and Cunning, so you will be putting points into those regardless to get certain talents. Many talents also benefit from Dexterity and Cunning, and Cunning also helps at pinpointing weaknesses, definitely a plus for a backstabbing Rogue. You will want to get Strength to 20 so that you can wield the best light armor (Wade's drake armor in particular) and daggers, but you shouldn't require any more points into it than that.
As far as stamina, I haven't run into too much problems with Leliana yet, but it does help to put an odd point in here and there. However, make sure to focus on getting the attribute requirements for talents first. When you start to get into the teens, you can probably start putting more points into Willpower.
For those who are saying Leliana should be dual-wielding, that is craaazy talk. Skip getting the last bard talent, and keep her out of battle and alive so she can keep on buffing everyone's damage. Shattering Arrow and Scattershot are amazing skills, and in general she does really good at it.
I'm not saying she should be either or. She's great with both. I went with the dual wield route with her personally, and she deals with enemies practically faster than my warriors. She's quite terrifying, especially with the rune slotted daggers I gave her. The Grandmaster runes in her daggers give a high chance to paralyze and slow, along with a few +5 elemental damage runes. Leliana is a monster of a character no matter the route you go. She does, however, have less points to spread around if you go dual wielding, as you have to play catch-up with a number of talents.

Apparently people were getting a false positive when installing the game as well if they were using Avira. If you've downloaded directly from bioware then I would disable the AV and install.

So, some help on getting access to the Steam content? I know someone posted about it earlier, but I can't find it now. I bought the Digital Deluxe and can't find any of my shit. The social site accepted one of the codes I received, but it seems to make no difference.
Edit: Ah, never mind. It suddenly decided to start downloading.

Do the DLC install for you lot? This is driving me insane.
I've spent 3 hours dicking around with it, and it downloads fine, extracts fine, but then pauses on Installing FOREVER. The game is being run as an administrator too
Hmmm, I have three things in the download content tab that say Downloaded, but they're not doing anything afterwards at the moment. Don't know whether to just go play or wait to see if something happens. Help!
Alright, I am getting this game today..either the CE which Amazon might deliver to me in a few hours or the SE which I preordered from Gamestop they probably get today.
First come, first serve. The other preorder will be cancelled.

I've been locked out of the game for four hours because it cannot install the DLC I have already downloaded and extracted. well, yeah. Mostly it's just that morrigan and the PC (mage) don't have any trouble getting dudes to well, forget that anyone with heavier armor is even around.
I haven't been able to pick up taunt yet though, so that'll probably help.

Hmmm, i'm not locked out I don't think. It's just not doing anything!
Is there a general interweb vibe re: PC vs 360? I'm not picking anything up so does that mean both are equally aces?
There is a very, very, very large leaning to the PC. It is everything the 360 version is as well as the possibility of better graphics if youre not playing on low.
It also has what most people see as the main drawcard, the tactical view. It is the top down view from Baldur's Gate or Diablo. This makes it easier to manage your party. I personally play all the combat in tactical view unless there is something in the distance I cant quite see and walk around adventuring in the 3rd person mode.
There are reports on the internet that the 360 version is inferior to the PS3 version as well. Apparently the PS3 version has better textures and loading times, but suffers slight framerates drops occasionally. I do not know of these advantages or disadvantages first-hand though.

However, make sure to focus on getting the attribute requirements for talents first. When you start to get into the teens, you can probably start putting more points into Willpower.
Also, that whacky Social site never ceases to amaze. Now it's defaulting to German. Okay, there's a language dropbox in the bottom corner. Set it to English, click a link, and back to Deutsch.
Barkspawn made me giggle. I went with unoriginality though and chose Frisket for his name, ripping off ReBoot.
EDIT: Huh. Fixed it now. That was...odd.
Apparently people were getting a false positive when installing the game as well if they were using Avira. If you've downloaded directly from bioware then I would disable the AV and install.
I want to know more PA people on Twitter.
Edit: Ah, never mind. It suddenly decided to start downloading.
edit: ahh. got it now. That 6 is an 8.
>_>
I've spent 3 hours dicking around with it, and it downloads fine, extracts fine, but then pauses on Installing FOREVER. The game is being run as an administrator too
First come, first serve. The other preorder will be cancelled.
It will say "YOU ARE INSTALLING DLC"
Fantastic no?
I've been locked out of the game for four hours because it cannot install the DLC I have already downloaded and extracted. In your case, you might be able to install them by clicking on the DLC in question in DAO, and selecting either "retry" or "install" (it appears under the description box on the right).
well, yeah. Mostly it's just that morrigan and the PC (mage) don't have any trouble getting dudes to well, forget that anyone with heavier armor is even around.
I haven't been able to pick up taunt yet though, so that'll probably help.
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
Hmmm, i'm not locked out I don't think. It's just not doing anything!
