I heard Slayer for the first time a few weeks after the first time I heard Napalm Death and Carcass. I just couldn't get excited. It felt like, you know, more rock music but faster. I didn't make my brain melt with surprise the way straight up DM bands did.
Reign in Blood is okay, but I've never liked the vocalist from Slayer.
The more that a metal band removes rock and roll from the sounds they produce, the more I like them.

Not entirely out of Thrash. Look at Kreator's newest CD, Hordes of Chaos. It is mostly thrash but has some progressive elements and it made for a fantastic CD.
