The thing is though, that's not really an invalid point.
The guilty DO often use the law as a shield. The law and justice are very much two different beasts. We can see it in stories, real cases and movies all the time where the law was used to get the obviously guilty off the hook. Yes, the law is set up the way it is for a reason. I believe in Due Process as much as the next guy. But that doesn't mean it isn't infuriating beyond all reason that a rich, white defendant can more often than not wiggle out of a crime on a technicality a poor, black defendant couldn't due to legal wrangling.
Phoenix Wright is obviously on the super idealistic side of things, but I don't think his point can be just ignored. I'm sure it'll come up eventually in the series. That is, Phoenix getting a guilty client off the hook.
There's a reason "Lawyer" is still an openly mocked profession to many people.
That's pretty much the main theme of the second game so get going!
Pretty much admits that he had done the wrong thing in the end and just sort of humbly accepts that he deserves to be in prison/executed. Dude was a straight-up motherfucker but that's a classy note to go out on.
That reason is because they haven't played this series, however. No joke, I found the process of American Law FASCINATING after I played this. Also, rich defendants can get off because they're willing to pay for the lawyers who only care about a win record instead of justice.
Also I NEVER want to get arrested in Japan.
And don't you think that fact would be infuriating to
Police Chiefs, Detectives, and beat Cops who constantly see their hard work torn to shreds by Lawyers like Lana et all? Who wouldn't want one in their pocket? Especially in cases like with Darke where he was the ONLY suspect (no Perry Mason BS) but nothing could be done due to lack of evidence.
Not trying to beat a dead horse, I just think the perpetrator in this case actually had a point that Phoenix is going to have to eventually confront. The law doesn't protect and punish everyone equally. It should, but it doesn't.

Yeah, he admitted what he did was wrong. But I understood his reasons for doing so.
And this just proves this is an excellent series with excellent characters.

This is also true. Really, there's a whole other level to the games when you realize they're basically a social commentary aimed at the Japanese to realize how intrinsically WRONG their justice system is. There's something like a 90% conviction rate, if accused of a crime you're considered guilty until proven innocent, there's no jury of your peers, it's basically a prosecutor laying out the case before a judge, and a defense attorney struggling to prove innocence.
Again, because it needs to be said, the crazy, wacky, and over-the-top unfairness of the Phoenix Wright legal system is pretty much exactly what the Japanese system was actually like.

Yeah, man, you really need to play the next game, posthaste.
It's interesting since America and Japan seem to have polar opposite problems with their legal systems.
Americans would like more convictions, hell, we've got the highest in the world if I remember right. We have due process, but that doesn't mean we always like it. We're looking at you O.J.
In Japan, the problem is if you're arrested, you're screwed. The entire legal system is geared towards getting a guilty verdict as fast as possible, with practically no chance of fighting it.
The manga releases in the U.S., are they the official comics or fan ones? I heard conflicting stuff on the matter. If anyone has them, are they any good?
Phoenix Wright has comics? Like, official comics? Official translated comics?

I gotta get me some o' dat.
They're short and insubstantial, but quite fun.
Two volumes.
So, since this has basically turned into the All-purpose Ace Attorney Thread, maybe the title should reflect that? Not saying you have to make a whole OP and stuff, just some clarity since we've basically stopped talking about Phoenix Wright on Wii :P
There just isn't that much to talk about regarding the WiiWare version in particular. It's games that are already out, coming out on a new platform. This thread will be interesting when all the Wiinoobs come in playing it for the first time all OMFG I CAN'T BELIEVE THESE PLOT TWISTS much like manwiththemachinegun is right now, so I guess this is just the lounge where we chill and talk about attorneys and their aceness for the time being.
For context, Edgeworth is sick with a fever, and Phoenix and Larry are trying to get him better. They tell him to Get in the freezer to cool down and lower his fever to which he replies he can't fit.

Phoenix realizes that giving Edgeworth medicine would end up with him facing edgeworth in court, and having a more difficult time. He walks away without giving edgeworth the medicine.
The last panel shows that They're both sick and Maya/Pearl and Franziska have to fill in for them

Shenanigans.
I swear I'm gonna pistol whip the next one of you that says shenanigans

The School Library Journal review for the first one there has me a little confused.
"It's part typical yaoi manga–complete with temper tantrums and mass-consumption of ramen and burgers–and part noir classic, and both the video game and the manga have a large following online."

Judging from the uh... fan works this series attracts, this is entirely accurate.

Not really much of that. It's actually much more prevelant in Vol 2. Since edgeworth is apparently the bishounen of the series. Half the reason Vol 2. isn't nearly as good. Not as much humor and too much swooning over edgeworth.
One comic in the first volume that implies stuff like that IIRC.

For the life of me, I will never, ever understand this phenomenon of "shipping."
You say that, but then you haven't yet seen the Adrian/Franziska hentais.
