Deus Ex?

I can't believe every time someone can't believe no one else has brought something up, someone else actually has.
No, really. We both win. Vampire's that good enough to be suggested twice. :P
Mother fucker.
dammit...now i have the urge to play that game again.
I actually said that only one person has mentioned this - perfect tense old legume!
Deus Ex bored me as no other game ever has. I actually like the second deus ex more. This puts me as a member of a unique group, I know, but such is life.
Meestah JC Denton...in da fresh!
I wanted orange. It gave me lemon-lime!
Covenant loses a bit in terms of mood and characters and becomes a little more intentionally silly. The plot also kind of nosedives on the second disc. Generally battle system improvements though, as you mentioned. Only problem is that it ends up being ludicrously easy after you pick up Arc spells.
Third has by far the best battle system, but the lamest cast and a plot that doesn't do much of anything until like 90% of the way through.
I favor the first, but then I'm fairly forgiving of its flaws. All three are worth playing though.
Irony! Goddamnit, is my face red.
But at least I didn't say this. :P
I'd argue Deus Ex 'felt' more like an intelligent mans FPS then a full blown RPG, but it is nonetheless the game I compare most Action RPGs to. And Vampire, of course.
It really is that good. Stellar voice acting. Incredible, vast, and epic story (epic in the classic sense too). It is hard as nails and long as life. Also, six origin stories to enjoy at the start.
It really is better than the classics, and I love my classics. It hurts to say that.
EDIT: Oh, and get it on PC. I am not sure what the fuck is going on in the console version. It is too different though.
cause if not, we should get on that.
except not boring as shit
He actually said that he liked it but hit a wall after a while where he was tired of playing it. Which is more understandable.
Also, you guys need to stop talking about Dragon Age or I'm going to fall off the fucking wagon and spend money on a new game while I've already got an enormous backlog.
See, you talk about crucifying somebody for not liking Chrono Trigger and then you turn around and pull this shit.
AHAHAHAHA
I'M ALREADY SUCKED INTO DA:O! I CAN'T BE SUCKED INTO DEUS EX AGAIN TOO RIGHT NOW! SUCK IT!
any slightly negative thing said about the game deserves painful torture.
but seriously, its like a 25 hour game which doesn't require grinding. What kind of wall is there to hit?
I'm kind of interested in dragon's age, but I generally don't vibe with the diablo crowd (aside from Borderlands, recently).
Can you just run around enemies in circles and never get hit, just like every other diablo clone? I would ask in that thread, but I don't want to sound like a troll. My friends tried to get me involved in BG2, but it was about the most boring thing ever.
tolkien is the absolute pinnacle of tedium. thats not to say it doesn't have merits.
And terribly written
With terrible pacing
And is, generally, terrible
Dragon Age isn't a Diablo clone, I'm not sure where you heard that. And, no you can't just run around people, you'll still be hit unless you are kiting at a decent distance, but that's not something I've had to resort to.
the thing about a pinnacle is only one guy (jordan) gets to occupy it
Oh, I was under the impression that it's a hack n' slash, with spells, and loot. I'm wasn't saying it copied diablo or anything, just that it's in that genre. What is it then?
I keep hearing it's fun, but I heard the same thing about BGII, and well, hitting the attack button a million times, finding a new weapon, then hitting the attack button a million more times is about as fun as filing your taxes.
Steam: Ashengor
If you've only got 2 weeks, I'm not sure if you have time to finish either one of them. You're probably better off starting with BG1 so that you won't be frustrated by the decrease in awesome if you do them backwards.
It's very similar to BG2, with some Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic elements mixed in. If you didn't enjoy bg2 at all then you may hate DA as well. I just think of a different type of game when I see Diablo clone, something more like Sacred or Titan Quest, which are action rpg's with heavy focus on loot. Dragon Age is more of a traditional group based rpg, where loot is important, but it's more focused on cool abilities and questing. DA's battle system is pausable like BG2 so if you enjoy very tactical battle systems it may tickle your fancy. Often the difference between being wiped and demolishing a group of enemies comes down to controling a mage with stuns and shit or using taunt abilites to keep aggro on your tanks.
Yeah, basically I'm just wondering if it offers any gameplay, I might give it a rent based on what you said. Maybe I didn't get too far in BGII, but all I remember was running around in circles, because none of the enemies could turn fast enough (even the bosses). I suppose I could've made it more challenging on my part, but that's just bad design on theirs.
e: Basically, Borderlands wet my thrist for a loot collecting game, but I need substantial gameplay to back it up.
It seems like he's confusing the Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance games with the older PC ones. Wasn't BG DA a diablo like hack n slash, where as the older pc ones everyone swoons over were more like turnbased dnd style rpgs?
Steam: Ashengor
Well DA doesn't suffer from that particular fault, at least. If you try to run around an enemy you'll just be hit over and over, it's a much better idea to be attacking. The game is also gorgeous. I'm playing on pc and I keep the camera zoomed in with the mass effect style camera so I can appreciate the level design, then when I hear the battle music start I zoom all the way out so I can manage my group better. It's an amazingly fun game, and while it's not literary grade writing it is very well constructed.
edit: It could be that you are confusing the action rpg baldur's gate with the originals. The originals are much, much better than the diablo-esque console versions, even if they are overhyped a bit by the PA community.
Yeah, it was. I don't remember ever being able to run around enemies without getting my ass reamed in the PC versions.
Whichever it was, you could most definitely just keep circling an enemy while attacking with impunity. I guess I've tried many of these types of games, but I've never really felt engaged in the actual gameplay, or challenged in the least. I'm hoping DA:O changes that tradition, so I'll check it out.
Thanks for the input.
In any case, I'm a bit more interested in it now.
I think this post needs more acronyms.
You just need a reason to return to UNATCO's loving embrace. Wait, wait! You didn't play a grenades/baton only run yet!
But not Grandia III. WHO WANTS TO RPG WITH THEIR MOMS!? >:/
