    Waaaaaahhh I'm getting a bonus

Sorry, that's all I read there. Sucks to be making what you do in comparison to Americans or whatever, but it's a bonus. I don't think my place of employment even knows what that word means. Most places don't know what that means.

I guess it's in conjunction with the pretty low salary compared to other employers in the immediate area that I'm griping. Sorry if I offended you.

Besides, I could have it worse: After tax and pensions and stuff, I get £1,100 a month. According to my Polish workmate, a developer in Warsaw would get 2,000 Zlotys a month. £1 = 4.5 Zlotys.

Didn't offend me, but it just smacked of someone complaining that they money they found on the ground was only $1 and not $20.

Also, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that £1 gets you a lot more in the UK than 4.5 Zlotys would get you in Poland.

I hate the whole mentality of banning something because someone might get offended. Banned because you are personally offended, I can understand.

There was a book written about the Danish Muhammad comic clusterfuck, but they had a problem finding a publisher since the original comics were reproduced in the book. Publishers were uneasy about that and feared retribution.

    Speaking of weird payscales

I don't know what the hell the deal is with Canadian devs. They accept much lower salaries even though the cost of living here is higher. Rent and stuff is about the same as Seattle, but wages are 30-40% lower in the software industry. Gas is more expensive, as is almost all food. The only way they got me to move was by promoting me from SDET (part of the QA org) to Senior SDE. I got a slight pay bump for a pretty huge promotion.

I did this in part for the experience of living in another country, and in part because I don't think this job/team will last long, and I'd be a likely candidate to get transferred back to the US.

It's really amazing how a different geographical location can completely fuck a job market. I live in Michigan now, born and raised. Friends have been graduating from college for a couple years now (I'm in year six, separate issue) and are complaining they can't find a job because they keep staying in state. However every single person I can think of that left the state after graduation found a job damn near like that.

Just a little change will net a huge advantage.

Morning [chat]. An old buddy of mine had an hour-long nature documentary he filmed and produced on the BBC last night.

I am not jealous of his success at all, and lead a rich and fulfilling life myself. For instance, right now, I'm replaying Dead Space.

No, unless his skills extend to impressions now. He doesn't get in front of the camera much, though when he does camera-work for Springwatch Simon King often mentions him, as he's usually the guy the have camping out for days on end trying to catch a glimpse of a badger in the dark or something.

I think it was supposed to be either a Zambian or a Zimbabwean accent. But who can say? I'll ask him.
