I listed an item. Paypal only. It sells, I get an email:
Dear blah
Hi there,I dont have paypal and wanted to pay via bank deposit but I need your details to send the payment.Thanx,Darren.
my reply was:
Sorry, I can only accept paypal. It's pretty easy
to make an account. This offers the best
protection for both buyers and sellers.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
His reply was:
And I'm sorry but I dont have a credit-card to set up an account on paypal.I had one once with an old credit-card but closed the account at the bank with nearly $100,00 in paypal and the ppl from paypal wont give me access to that.Hmmm,Yeh...Be trusting them again.NOT....If you check the world stock exchange you will find that EBAY are the main holders in PAYPAL
Yeah, fuck it. I'm not dealing with idiots. What do I do? What's the proper method to go by here.
Get thee to the Resolution Center, I think. The guy can gum up the works a little bit but he refused to use the required payment method, so you'll win out eventually.
Message him back one more time, and let him know that it's Paypal only, and that if that's unacceptable then you will go ahead and cancel the sale. Your life will be much easier during the dispute process--and if he later decides to fuck with you--if you have a record of trying to work things out with him via messages.
Uh, assuming I tell him he has to use paypal, and he reluctantly agrees.
He could then just say it didn't come/came broken and whether or not this is true, I'd be pretty much screwed either way right?
If he does give in, take pictures.
But really it's probably better to just cancel the sale.
I would think video would be the best way- it takes what, 10 min to wrap, package, and ship an item? That way there will be complete documented proof that the item he bought was brought to the post office (or mailing place of your choice) and there would be virtually no way to dispute it.
edit: but also, I agree with those suggesting to cancel the sale or bring it up with the resolution center. Only use my method if he does end up buying it and you want to make sure that there is evidence of your shipping it.
"I didn't insinuate you were out to rip me off. If Paypal is unacceptable and you do not choose to abide by the terms of the contract, It's within my rights to render the sale void within three business days of the auctions end. Thank you."
The other way to play this, I guess, would be to say that you are actually PRINCE WAHAMOTO OF NIGERIA and you would be happy to send the item if he can help you get back your VAST FORTUNE of SEVEN MILLION U.S. DOLLARS ($8,00,0000) from the DASTARDLY REGIME
His typing reminds me of practically every scammer I've ever come across. So even if he some how agreed to use paypal I wouldn't sell to him.
Cancel the sell. He doesn't want use the agreed upon service to purchase the product.

Best case scenario. He is an idiot. You send him your bank account info and he can deposit 10 unfunded checks, nailing you with fees, and getting you reported to check systems in the process.
If I recall correctly, you don't need a credit card to set up a paypal account. I think I set mine up through my bank account, and paypal just made some microdeposits to verify that it was mine. So, the dude is either scamming or a retard.
Get to the Resolution Center NOW. Keep all messages sent between you two and get the hell out of this sale. eBay should refund the fees on the sale when you let them know its been rescinded. Good luck
Once you cancel the sale, the buyer will have to agree to the cancellation. When Ebay asks the reason for your cancellation, just make it really clear how the high bidder refused to meet the requirements of the sale.
You can send a second chance offer to the next highest bidder, if you still want to sell your item.
Ebay buyers have low reading comprehension, low IQ, and high customer entitlement, unfortunately.
Don't worry - eBay will have your back on this one. Just wait the seven days and when you don't receive payment open up an unpaid item dispute for this guy, then send the second chance offer to the next highest bidder.
You have the right idea though - never accept payment outside of PayPal with dudes this sketchy. Also - I think that you have attempted enough communication at this point. If he reacts negatively, just ignore it. Don't let him bait you into losing your cool.
Yeah, that's what was listed in my item description. Looks like he's paying by paypal now. Doesn't seem too happy. I'll make sure to document everything.

I would also say get delivery confirmation from whomever you send the package with, so there is a paper trail on that. PayPal is also very... friendly to buyers who claim to be screwed out of their stuff after payment, so you want to cover your ass on that front.
Just speaking from personal experience on that bit.
I would have just dropped him without argument, If they can't follow the rules laid out in plain english on the auction then they are either too fucking stupid to worry about dealing with, or a scammer.
if he's a scammer, and he's using a stolen credit card, Paypal will have YOU on the hook for the money, and freeze/close your account.
Yeah - I would cancel the auction simply because if you go through with it - paypal tends to favor the buyer, even if all evidence suggests that they did something wrong. So I think attempting to ship it out even after receiving payment could result in a few headaches (I didn't receive it! I'll ship it back! Oh wait it's broken!)

what the fuck is the world stock exchange and how do i check it?
I'm going to echo the others and say there is NO way you should continue with this sale. First he won't use paypal, then he reluctantly will? This is screaming scam to me.

Shazam.
I'll keep you posted.
But what you did will work too

not worth it.
For the last goddamn time, he owed back taxes.
Do it. Do it.

1. paypal with a verified address or cash in hand only
2. US only
3. as-is / final sale / no refunds
and i've never had a problem. just FYI.
if the buyer doesn't want to abide by these rules, the auction is cancelled, and re-listed.

He just seems like an idiot.
FYI if he had 100k in a paypal account and it's frozen there's a good reason why.
