The melee patch is now live. Patch notes are at http://www.champions-online.com/patch_notes, they're absurdly long.

is it bad that this is one of my favorite parts?
Weapons now appear in the character creator and the tailor. Note: FX does not currently show. This is will be coming in a future update.

@Arch nice, I like the costume. I think any of those three colors would work pretty well to replace the blue trim. Although if you swap the base to White, I would go with orange or red (since the yellow might get washed out).

    speaking of aesthetics-

what do the new "lash" powers from the new supernatural look like? I won't check them out till later tonight but am curious

EDIT: actually a database with power animations and stuff would be like the best thing ever, and I am surprised it doesnt exist yet.

hell they haven't even done this for CoX, and its been around for EVER

(unless they have and I just don't know)

The new Lash has the same animation and chain graphics as the old Lash, but the particle FX are different. Instead of a glowing chain, you get a non-glowing chain that has a awesome fireball (green by default) at the tip of it. On a related note, the new infernal EB is probably one of the best looking EBs in the game.

Mannnn...I don't know if its a bug, a graphical glitch, or intended but this bothers me:

When you use infernal bolts (the new end builder) you get a weird colored flare emanating from underneath your character. I think the idea was that when you shoot your poison blasts you also have like...a burst of energy around your feet, but it really just ends up looking VERY silly, especially when moving or using "beast" body positions.

I did too. The combat is still a lot of fun, I just can't put my finger on what it is about the game that makes me lose interest.

It might be the slowdown of progression.

I also think that, as much fun as they are to use, travel powers kind of make the world seem too small. You can get and see everything pretty quickly, from a safe distance, which pretty much eliminates those 'wow, look at that' moments in other MMOs when you crest a rise for the first time and are treated to an awesome sight. But I don't think you can get away from that, travel powers are too fun and necessary.

Also, since playing with new costumes and powers are among the most fun moments in the game, the game is hurt by a lack of varried starting areas. You only get two, and there's nothing to tie your type of character to either of those areas, unless you want it that way.

What would be interesting is if they had made it so you picked where your powers came from, and your character's motivation, and then put you in a sort of origin story. Maybe that's asking too much, but the game just feels so tired after your 7th alt going through the same content again, and since the game is really set up to make you want to create alts, that's going to continue to be a problem.

However, I did get the 3 month subscription, so I have a few months left if I want to come back and blast stuff.

My biggest problem with the game is that it's a little too tongue-in-cheek for my liking. It veers a little too close to the Batman tv show from the 60's in tone, rather than the more modern representation of super-heroes. I don't need the game to be all grimdark, but some of the villain groups you fight are pretty silly. I don't find them all that compelling or memorable.

I'm constantly comparing CO to CoH, and the CoH setting is more "realistic," for lack of a better world.

I've been wanting to try Champions for a while now but I'm not interested in paying until I can get a good idea of what the game is like. I know Cryptic offers their demo thing but I don't want to spend all that time just playing in the tutorial zone.

Is there any other sort of trial available that will let me play beyond the first area?

    Soooooo.....

I started playing again last night.

DDO started to bore me, AoC is extremely boring to me, so much so that I canceled my xpac order, I tried EVE and lasted for about 4 hours before the lack of WASD control annoyed me, I will NOT resub to Aion, and since I have a lifetime sub to CO....

OMG I forgot how much fun it is LOL.

So I started off with my 32 Munitions character, then bounced to my 28 Power Armor, then to my 11 Unarmed MA character, then I made new Celestial, Archery, Might, and Gadgeterring characters. I still think I like my Munitions character the best, but Gadgeterring is soooo much fun. Of course picking up cars and tossing them at people with my PA and Might characters is fun too.

    More info please...

The fireball advantage is going to be changed to only affect the dot from the 10% chance dot you inflict with all your attacks. And it won't stack.

    So... totally worthless.

I enjoyed IM 2 and while watching really though how you could make Iron Man, War Machine, and Whiplash in the game. On top of that you can have battles with flaying around, punching people, pushing them around, etc...

It is a real shame Champions isn't the Marvel MMO :(. Champions is a fun game and it is shame they would get sued -- but it would be nice if they could in the game have a leveling tree that was basically like "Want to be the Hulk do follow this tree, Iron Man this tree, Wolverine this tree, etc..."

They do. It's called Might, Power Armor, and Claws, respectively.
