Well I disabled GFWL in my Fallout install just now anyway, so I don't have to worry about mods not working anymore. Sad that I can't seem to get FOSE.exe to have the steam overlay.
At least I can alt-tab now.

God damn it, I wish enemies would make a bit more noise to say that they've sighted you or something. This is the same as Oblivion, where I would be running through open areas then all of the sudden I take damage and I jump a little in my seat from the surprise. Turn around and some stupid wolf has been chasing me.
Except in Fallout 3 it's not just wolves or mole rats, but fucking centaurs. Fuck those freaky things, I don't need to turn around and suddenly my screen is filled with this pink horror.
Yes, I misunderstood. All steam stuff is disabled - just like gfwl. I think it's to prevent any issues with vac.
I have fose.exe loaded through Steam so I can still get the overlay (since apparently whoops I actually can't alt-tab like I thought; there's still a good 40% chance that when I alt-tab out of the game, I can't get back into it). Will that cause VAC issues?
Oh, and I am not using 1.1b9 of FOSE. I'm using 1.2b1.

I've realized I have a love/hate relationship with Fallout 3 and Bethesda in general. When their games work they are really good and immersive games. When they glitch and fail, it is extremely frustrating. The damn vampire glitch in Oblivion, the robot glitches in Big Town in Fallout 3, hell all of the GOTY edition of Fallout 3 for PS3 is buggy as hell. I loved Point Lookout when it wasn't loading a pixel a minute and glitching, same with Broken Steel. Myself or a friend have played all but mothership Zeta, and for each DLC there is at least one moment where the game freezes horribly, and has to be reset. I've had the game crash on me completely twice, which I didn't even know was possible on a PS3. The game just glitched, the screen went black, and I was back on the PS3 main screen. It is so rediculously bad at times, where some parts of the game are unplayable until I get the lucky time it doesn't glitch so much that I can make it through that one part where the game isn't having an anuerism. It honestly feels sometimes that the game is just a step above unplayable from a programming perspective. It is also annoying as, it being the PS3 version of the DLC, it is the last version to come out, so you think these would be fixed problems. I mean, are there any plans to release patches of these glitches?
I don't mean to sound so negative, I love the game, when it runs correctly. But having the game freeze so often that I started to get images burned into the HDTV for awhile is annoying and ruins alot of the fun when I have to do fights three or four times in a row through no fault of my own.
I mean, are there any plans to release patches of these glitches?
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Probably not. With Mothership Zeta, Bethsoft themselves are likely pretty much done with Fallout 3 - I mean, look at the patch notes for the last couple of patches. The best hope is that Obsidian gets some fixes in with New Vegas. (Will New Vegas even work off of a Fallout 3 install, or is it completely standalone?)
Thorough bug-squashing isn't something that Bethsoft has ever done well. They literally gave up with Daggerfall and both Morrowind and Oblivion had to have unofficial patches on the PC to fix the literally hundreds of bugs that just never got corrected. Console users get the worst of it all, since stuff that can be fixed/modded around on the PC will just stay forever broken on a console.

Oh that is just frustrating. From what I've heard, I'm far from the only one with these problems with the GOTY edition. I guess with the largely pc heavy fanbase of Morrowind and Daggerfall it was easier to do stuff like that, leaving it to the fans. With how popular Fallout has been, I hope they do, as there GOTY edition for at least PS3 has been rediculous so far in its bugs. The normal edition has been mostly fine, with only two real glitches being a problem, one of which randomly dissapeared (I literally couldn't play as a female for awhile, as the turning was glitched for women characters, and the aforementioned Big Town problem).
Did they end up ever fully fixing the vats bugs they introduced with one of the patches? Where there's a slight pause when entering VATS before the percentages appear and also some turrets and all thrown grenades are permanently 0%.
Apparently, being able to shoot thrown grenades was a bug. Vats still acts up if you have an nvidia card at times, but I am not sure about those with an ati card.
Been having an odd bug where the Windows mouse cursor appears now and then for a split second. Clicking when it happens causes the game to minimize and not be able to be maximized again, whereas waiting for it to disappear lets everything go on as normal.
Another related thing is that mouse clicks don't get recognized until after several times, or until the mouse is dragged to the upper left (anywhere the Fallout mouse cursor is used), where the Windows cursor will suddenly appear. Basically, once the Fallout cursor is "aligned" with the Windows one, things fix themselves.
Anyone have this? I'm thinking it might have something to do with the Steam overlay.
Well I was coming in here to ask if anyone knew of some good GNR mods that add in songs but the OP solved that one. I also realized I'm absolutely going to have to do a playthrough with the classic weapons mod sometime. :P
So I'll ask this instead- Anyone know a decent place to pick up a suit of black recon armor (I think it's the outcast version?) or is it just a wander the wastes and hope you find a patrol kind of deal? I looted Fort Independence but nadda.

It doesn't actually exist in the game. You're going to have to use console commands to get it.
Unless you mean Outcast Power Armor, in which case just follow an Outcast patrol until they come across a Deathclaw.

Maybe it's Enclave that I'm thinking of then?
I know in one of the save games I currently have I found a suit of black recon out in the wastes off (I think) either an Outcast patrol or a Enclave camp. I just can't for the life of me remember where or which
But if I can get it via the console commands then fuck it I'll probably just do that. It's purely an appearance thing and if I can avoid wandering the wastes for days trying to stumble across it then awesome :P
I had this for 360 but a bunch of things about it annoyed me, so I'm thinking of grabbing the PC version so I can use some mods. One thing I needed to check though: is it possible to change the way weapons degrade, and the weight limit? It always pissed me off that I had to carry two or three of each weapon, which would put me right up near the carry limit, so slowing down weapon degredation and upping the carry limit would be nice.

Is there a mod I should download to let me fiddle with stuff like that, or would I be changing .ini files?

There are heaps and heaps of mods that adjust both. Check out the Fallout 3 Nexus, and type in either degradation or carry weight in the search window. You'll find dozens of mods.

Awesome, thanks. I hadn't bothered to look for mods yet beyond the ones recommended in the OP.
I bought Fallout 3 when it came out originally, for the Xbox 360. Liked it, but of course the ending was ass blah blah. Anyhow, never played any of the expanson packs as I moved on to other games.
Now I just got the GOTY edition for the PC, and installed it today. Downloaded a bunch of mods, and am wondering if all the ones on the front page are more or less okay to be installed at the same time? I didn't get them all, but got a bunch, as well as the installer one and the one that arranges them to load best.
Having this many mods can't possibly go wrong, yes?

Heh, I imagine that might be a rhetorical question? Well in any case, yes, some mods can/will conflict with others resulting in anything from missing items/textures to full on CTDs.
The ones I listed I have used, many of them at the same time. If you run into trouble you can post your load order on the Fallout 3 forums at Bethsoft. Usually the people there will help sort you out. You could also check to see what load orders other people use.
There is a general guide to load order out there somewhere. I do not have a link sadly, but when you read it you will have a much better idea of how to load your mods.
One tip to remember, what ever mod is at the bottom of your load order will override any other mod above it that changes the same item/person/thing.
ie: Say you have a mod that changes the Chinese Assault Rifle to look like an AK47. However you have another mod (Weapon Changing Mod) that changes a bunch of weapons in the game to look like something else, even the Chinese Assault Rifle. You would want your AK47 mod to me below the Weapon Changing Mod so that the Chinese Assault Rifle will still look like an AK47, but all the other weapons that the Weapon Changing Mod changes will still be changed.
I've been up late so I hope that makes sense. :P
edit- Also, I've been out of the loop when it comes to Fallout 3 (last time I played was shortly after the release of Zeta) so many of the mods in the OP are probably out of date or there may just be a much better mod out there that does the same thing. Maybe I'll get back in to Fallout 3 and do up another mega mod post.

On my way to Rivet City, I ran into a large group of Raiders in the subway. What with the mods making everything way more dangerous, I spent the next several minutes preparing for guerrilla warfare instead of fighting them head-on. Then I attacked. The battle led through several tunnels worth of my mines, spaced appropriately, of course. I fired at them when I could, and threw grenades when I couldn't.
Several minutes later, they were all dead.
A few seconds after that, I walk into a bear trap and die.
God damnit Bethesda, did you even play-test PS3 GOTY edition? I've had it freaking lag up every single time I've tried to start the Mothership Zeta quest. I can pause the game and everything, but it just gets stuck on the screen of the aliens probing me.
Is there anyway I can continue playing this quest? I mean, it doesn't freeze up, but the screen just stays the same, except for the alien in the background, who twitches.

This is my first time playing Fallout 3 with mods and it's been pretty annoying to find the right balance, but I think I've finally found the magical mix. While heading through the DC tunnels, I end up having to sprint through a chunk of 20-30 feral ghouls (which are now so much better than the slow, worthless, unmodded ones, thanks to MMM I assume) and into another section of tunnels. Just inside the next section is a scavenger. Oh, and the ghouls followed me.
Between my minigun and the scav's assault rifle at a chokepoint, we make a trail of dozens of dead ghouls. Except now we've alerted all the ghouls in the current section, so they come a running for some human flesh. After killing a few more ghouls, the scav packs it up and runs for it. While I wish he'd stayed, the ghouls were thinned out enough to handle without much trouble. After picking over all the ghouls, I make my own way out of the tunnels; during his escape, the scav had wiped out pretty much all the ghouls in his way. At the exit, I'm setting off bear traps when I notice a dead body mere feet from the gate right by a closed trap.
I go check it out and it was that poor unlucky scav. He manages to live in the tunnels among the ghouls just fine until some idiot from a Vault comes running through leading an undead parade. After valiantly killing dozens, he makes a break for, guns blazing the whole way out, then steps on a bear trap and dies within 10 yards of daylight.
I felt a little bad, then I looted his precious corpse of all sorts of ammo and goodies. Probably the most authentic Wasteland moment I've had yet.
But sometimes those ghoul spawns are pretty ridiculous. While it's pretty neat to see an area filled with ghouls and decide it's not worth the ammo, it's also pretty annoying to be pinned down for a couple minutes because a rape train in excess of 30+ ghouls just sprinted by to attack those raiders I just snuck past.

I have to say, my most STALKER-like moment just came. A pack of dogs attacked me, and I had to jump for some high ground where I could pick them off without being surrounded. However, unlike in STALKER, they can lunge into the air at me.
And then the skirmish attracts the attention of a Yao Guai. D:D:D:
I actually feel like I should get the Animal Friend perk now.
