Hey Aldo, got another sports MMO for you.

    Quick Hit Football
Create a coach, create a team (preset logos, 2 color options, free reign on team name/location)
Then train your players and send them out onto the field. Pick what plays to run and hope for the best.
Can be played against other player coaches or solo against cpu coaches.

Not too bad. Writing's decent (little engrish, lot of pop-culture references). It's grindy, but I don't mind it too much. Quest log is nice in that it tells you what to kill and where to find it. You also get a sidekick/pet that starts off as a fairy, turns into that little girl you see, then eventually becomes a teenager.

For the record, I enjoyed CoX for 3+ years.

Aika is not bad. It's grindy but has a whole shitton of quests. The UI is decent, everything just works how it should. Downside to it is a lack of good character customization and the main part of the game, the PVP doesn't come till much later in levels. Overall though it is one of the better free MMO's around. I didnt encounter any engrish, lots of weird pop culture references that are kinda silly. You get a young girl as a pet which is kinda weird.

I tried Aika earlier today, and the interactive fairy/loli pet got me thinking. Giving everyone their own semi-customizable NPC companion seems to be a very popular thing in Asian MMOs; partially because the developers have learned that people get attached to them and end up staying/paying longer. Then, we've got virtual girlfriend games that are endearing enough to have a subset of crazy people staging weddings.

In the name of SCIENCE!, I propose that somebody create a grind MMO that features a virtual girlfriend pet. You know, just to see if it plunges Korea/China/Japan into flaming ruin.

edit: also, what is up with the fucking bullshit character slots thing? you only get three, and you have to wait days to delete one to make room for another?

Aika was too generic for me. FEZ is a lot more unique. Also, clunky how? I found it pretty straight forward myself. Only time i get annoyed is when i am up against someone lagging really bad and teleporting all over the screen. But that doesn't happen as much as i expect.

I'm at level 20, half way to 21 in FEZ now.

Not sure if you really bother much with browser based games, but Lord of Ultima is a pretty decent browser based Heroes of M&M style game with a persistent overworld map full of real player's towns. Just on my first day and still building up my town itself, but it seems decent enough if you like the genre.

That Lord of Ultima is kinda what I was looking for. Base building, but you're not charged by the mouse-click. Looks like so far the only things you can buy are instant resources and advisers that will automatically upgrade your buildings and recruit troops for you. Also, not bad- the prices. You buy "Diamonds" at $5 for 500 (better deals as you buy more) and the resource boosts are a dime each (5000 for a single resource, 1500 for a boost to all) while the advisers are $1.10 for a week and $2.80 for a month

Of course this is all Beta at the moment.

I wouldn't go that far. Even the FAQ says that it's Ultima in name only. So you're not trying to conquer Brittanna or anything.

Well i got an e-mail from EA advertising it as an Ultima based in browser strategy game. But yeah i assumed it wasn't like the old games, seeing as its an in browser strategy and the others were isometric RPG's. I am aware of the difference. I was just pointing out that it isn't a thinly veiled cash grab by some chinese gold farmers or something like Evony.

Hmm, well, have you ever played My Life As A King on the Wii? That's the closest thing I can think of to compare Lord of Ultima to, and even then it's not completely accurate.

When you sign up to play it gives you a plot of land on a persistent world map. In that map you're given a town hall, and your plot has a ton of different resources to gather. The first couple days seem to be made up of building buildings, managing resources, defenses, and getting to the point you can start building an army. At that point you can go all PVP, stealing resources, and ransacking towns over the map, or also send your armies out to quest through dungeons and towers and such. Might be a bit plain for some of you, but I haven't played too many of these. The visuals are decent, the game is somewhat straight forward, and it's an entertaining little time waster. Just seeing if anyone else was playing because alliances definitely seem to be the way to go in the game both for defense and resources.

    Lords of Ultima
An in-browser strategy game ran by EA, set in the good ol' Ultima setting from the beginning days of MMOs. This one puts you in the gold-laced boots of a freshly minted king and you get to fuck around a fantasy universe expanding your town, sending your heroes on quests and stealing the riches of other players and NPCs.

    Also added Martial Empires.

Don't blame ya, just thought you should know. I hate those pieces of junk :P

Found two I didn't see on the list, I think the first is in OB and the second is headed that way:

http://do.us.changyou.com/index.shtml - Dragon Oath, which looks like a generic Asian fantasy MMO. Has an expansion coming out with pretty lame features for an expansion

http://tof.igg.com/ - Tales of Fantasy, another Asian fantasy MMO, has mounted combat. Also wings

Generic Asian MMO with wings and combat with mounts. Sounds rather generic, which would fit with the rest of IGG's portfolio.

Are there any free MMORPGs that have a decent pet class? Something along the lines of a D2 Necro or a CoV Mastermind; those were always my favorites in those games. Most of the Asian-style MMOs give everyone a pet and use that as an excuse not to have decent summonables.

The summoner classes in Zu Online and Perfect World are neat. Don't expect to raise an army of the dead/of the wild like you can in Diablo, though. More than one pet is kind of a bridge too far in MMOs (see also the pet classes in WoW :( )
