In the GOP's ongoing effort to be, on average, three millimeters to the left of Attila the Hun, Anh "Joseph" Cao (R-LA, occupying William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson's old seat after beating him by three points in a D+28 district) has a primary opponent for next year, because he voted for the health care reform bill that was put before the House on Sunday night. This, despite the fact that Cao even voted against the stimulus (ostensibly because it didn't give his district enough money, actually because Boehner wouldn't let him), and voted for the Stupak Amendment. He's the only Republican who could possibly be elected from that district next year, on the power of incumbency, and even with that he'll almost certainly lose, and they want him out. The Republican Party: Conservatism Uber Alles!
I know I heard last night that someone had already vowed to primary him, but at this point, he won't have the support of the
Club for Growth.
Bonus Poe's Law Moment: Last night I posted two fictitious quotes from Fox about this: "Joe Cao just voted for socialism!" and "This will definitely hurt his reelection prospects, yes." Three people asked me who had said that and when it would be up for viewing.

Plus, I remember at least one thread about Democrats' failings. Feel free to start another.
Holy shit, I don't even know what happened here, but I lol'd.
The main failing of the democratic party that I see right now is that they aren't actually doing anything liberal (which is a sub-failing of being owned by corporate entities)
Look, I feel really bad about your party's continuing head-first slide into irrelevancy. I really do.

It's not that they don't share in the glorious liberal vision. They don't have a coherent, rational vision. When they can figure out how to address problems without lying to the American public and themselves, and by putting forward their own proposals rather than merely shouting down others, perhaps I'll be able to vote for them again.
I am hardly one who loves the Glorious Liberal Vision, nor am I a fan of single-party domination. Anyone here will be happy to tell you so. But the Republican Party, right here, right now, is at best utterly incompetent and at worst flailing around in impotent rage over the election of a black man.

I'd love to have a federal government that's somewhat equally divided between two or more political parties.
There's no way in hell that I'd want the modern GOP to be one of those parties, however.
If the conservative wing of the modern Democratic party were the most right-wing party in Congress and competed against a Green Party and a smattering of Libertarians and an aged, wheezing contingent of 2-3 Republicans, I'd be pleased as punch.
You realize that many of us are not Democrats and that some of us were Republicans until they went completely batshit right.
Also if you're oblivious enough to think we all agree with one another you should maybe read the polygamy/incest thread.
Well there are two options here, really, each of which are equally justified by his posting history. Either he's a troll, or just not that bright. While the former is more likely (especially given his name), the latter is much more amusing, in that from his side of things, the forum pretty much is a hive mind in that he posts something stupid, and immediately has everyone against him telling (see his particularly dim declaration of 'why do gays get to oppress me?' that derailed the last thread - just please don't drag it into here).
EDIT: To actually contribute to discussion, has anybody with even a modicum of influence even gone into how Cao's vote smacks of "oh what the hell" since he only went in favor of the bill after the opposers were defeated anyway? It's not that I don't doubt the hardcore calling for his head by sheer principle instead of actual effect, but it's not like he actually did anything.

You could choose to add value to the thread instead of emitting a low girlish whine, but I suppose that would take work.
we're just trying to balance out the ranting of all your stupid congressmen
Pluto was a planet and I'll never forget
I doubt it. Ultimately, he's only accountable to his own district, and they seemed to benefit heavily from it. He probably understood the backlash (I hope), and put his people before his politics. If it was just a "oh, why not?" vote, that doesn't make much sense, because he had to know it would go over like a lead balloon.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this thread not about a Republican who is actually honest and sane? Sure, there are the undertones of lolRepublican, but in this case they are well deserved.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.

I can't be the only person who read KL's post this way.
More like KL's a sore loser who can't get over the fact the GOP got their assess handed to them in 08, no thanks in part to the GOP themselves. "Hey John,we've got this foxy, spunky, down to earth gal from Alaskathat will be your ticket to the presidency. Her experience? Don't you worry, she's got more clout than Osama MIRITE John" - Typical Republican strategist during 08.
Seriously, its like these people don't fucking get it.
Cao didn't have to vote for it, but then again he didn't have to vote for it. It was a completely irrelevant vote (especially so when it was cast), so why not just side with his party and strengthen the message of the mission? Personally, I say good for him for actually putting his constituents ahead of partisan politics for once.
Supposedly he went to the same mosque as two of the 9/11 hijackers, so in the eyes of the bigots it isn't. Instead it's the pit of evil that breeds extremist Muslim 9/11x1000 Nazi attacks against America's patriotic fight against socialist gays.

Poor Republicans. They go so far to the right that Independants don't want to have anything to do with them but they don't go far enough to the right for the crazies that currently make up their base...
It's so awesome.
