Some of it is in Codex entries, some of it is in "The Calling" novel. It isn't really spelled out all in one place, its a matter of putting pieces together here, pieces together there, and inferring some other parts. And yeah, a good portion is what the Chantry teaches, but its pretty much accepted fact in Ferelden. Its kinda like how we accept the fact that Alexander the Great or Plato existed, and we have some idea about them, but no real way to know whether what we believe is true actually is. All we can really do is take what people wrote about them 1700 years ago as fact.
I'd think it would be a little more complicated than that since we're talking about the scripture of a religion. It seems more analogous to accepting Jesus was resurrected from the dead, except in a world where magic actually happens.
Anyway, it's undoubtedly a troubling situation. I'll admit part of me is just curious to see where it goes.
So, different subject. Has anybody tried Hard with only one Mage? I want to be a backstabby rogue for my second playthrough, but I went through my whole first playthrough with Wynne and Morrigan and don't really feel like having them both again.
I thought about using Jesus for my analogy, but I feel that the story of the Mages invading the Golden Palace is more excepted then the Jesus story, so I went with more real world people.
As for doing a Hard Playthrough with a single mage, it should be doable, though I haven't played on Hard yet. I would probably recommend Wynn for it, since Spirit Healing + another Spec is more useful then Shapeshifting + another Spec. I got through normal using only 1 mage, and that was before I learned how to optimize things (I had practically no crowd control). I'd say 2 tanks, a rogue, and a mage should work out on Hard.
Hm, okay. I was thinking along the lines of tank, two stealth Rogues, and a Mage, since I thought that might make Revenants and fights with multiple Mages easier to take care of.
Edit: Maybe Shale for the other melee though? I don't know.

God damnit. It's doing it again -- No lockup problems at all, once I get to the wilds after the origin story, the game starts to lock up my entire PC.
Anyone else having this problem? Last time I fixed it by going windowed mode, been playing all along in windowed mode this time and it still did it.
I haven't had any lockup problems at that point, or any point for that matter, but I get some really nasty load times in Orzamar after I've been playing for a couple of hours. It'll be fine, and then it's like the game goes "Oh shit, we're at the over two hours mark! *HNNNNNNNNNNHHHHHHGGGGGGGHHHH*"
It was getting pretty goddamn ridiculous last night.

Only time it ever crashed for me was the very first time I entered Soldier's Peak.
I just reload once before every area transition, every other if its small areas. It only takes 20 seconds in and out of the game, and then 10 seconds to reload the save, but its worth it to avoid stuttering and the 5-8 minute loads you can get if you don't log in and out. Damn memory leak and damn AMD Phenom.
I've had this game crash on me twice. Once, because I was alt tabbing between this and Eve Online. The second time it crashed going into a boss fight in the Fade. Since then, I've been golden.
1. Is anyone else having trouble w/ the Dragon Age Servers? Every time I try to log in it simply says "Please Try Again." No matter what.
2. I have got to figure out tactics properly. I have liliana in my party as a rogue, I've even given her a stinkin bow and arrow, but she PERSISTS in running up next to me (tank dwarf) and using her dual weapons. WTF chuck. Her tactics are even set to bow use unless surrounded (which is indeed the first one). But "If Surrounded" should not mean "run up to tank to get surrounded." Why do they not stop and engage at range when enemies are coming down the damn hallway?

Hmm, not sure. If her Behaviour is set to Ranged, then she should stand back and shoot people.
Personally, I didn't use "If Surrounded"; I just told her to use Dirty Fighting if she's attacked in melee, and she uses her bow all the time. Heck, I've even manually switched her to daggers and moved her behind a guy to backstab, but when I switched to someone else, she got the hell out of dodge and went back to shooting. Silly bitch.

I don't know what it is in the 360 version (in the PC version there is a little button below the party portraits that has a walking man or hand symbol). Set this to the hand when in battle (I really wish there was some option to do this). This will set people to move only when commanded to and not run like lemmings to the controlled character. Also, there should be a behavior (in the upper right part of the tactics screen) thats called "ranged" that should always have the character use her ranged weapon.

See, that's pretty much how it's currently set. Ranged/Archery defaults up top, but the first line is something like "if surrounded, use dirty fighting." But every single freakin fight she runs into melee range. I cannot figure out what is up.

in the tactics menu, choose archer in the one of the lists on the page. Can't remember exactly where said list is.
Finished the game (Human Mage). Pretty darn good I have to say. No one does dialogue and story quite like them there Biowares. Alistair in particular was very enjoyable, even though I was shocked after listening to him for several hours to find out he wasn't voiced by James Marsters. Seriously, was that an intentional imitation?
The endgame was quite epic, but after getting through the entire game on normal (360 normal mind you) I had to turn it down for the last boss. Way too gimmicky and too much chaos. Not feeling too manly about that. I've already started another character so maybe next time. Can't say I'm looking forward to slogging through some of those dungeons again (Deep Roads are uh . .. deep). Also, I've started a second "douche of the universe" playthrough on every Bioware game with the best intentions and never followed through. Someday.
My main complaint about the game was the loot/inventory system. I hated it and struggled throughout. I really should have bought the damn party chest but was too stubborn. My inventory was always full, it was a pain in the ass to figure out who should get what, and eventually that started really hurting the game for me. What I mean is instead of being excited by finding a "secret" room with a few locked chests, assuming my rogue was even with me to begin with, I almost couldn't be bothered checking them. Oh good, 3 more worthless Darkspawn Shortbows and 2 Studded Leather Helms to add to my collection. How are these useful to me in any way? Can't use, pointless to sell. With a game this epic and such a large pool of party members, there was a great opportunity to have useful, unique loot scattered throughout the game. This would have made it much more fun for me.
If youre on the PC I highly recommend using ONE cheat. It takes you to the party select screen, I used this to get my rogue for unlocking before sending her away and bringing back my regular team.

Nope, it doesn't end after you get the 4 treaties. After you get all four treaties, you probably have 5 or 6 more hours of gameplay. without doing many side quests.
Man, I just realized that being a racist/classist Human Noble Templar in this will be hard.
Mage Circle Spoiler:
If you side with the templars in the Tower, does Wynne still... you know... if she's not in your party?
So far the only people I can think of that would be definite party candidates would be Leliana and Alistair. I guess my dog too, but I feel like that would be way too mundane focused.
Any advice on where stat points should go for a sword and shield human warrior?
I want my cunning at 16 for coercion and dexterity at 26 for the top shield skill. Obviously strength should be high for good armor and weapon wielding and talents. But how to partition points between the remaining categories?
The goal for strength is to get it up to 38, where I think you can equip all massive armors (it might be higher, but I think thats the highest I've seen). Constitution should also be a up there as well, extra HP is never a bad thing. As for Magic/Willpower, its I think much more subjective. If you find you're not getting enough out of your poultices, dump a few points into magic. If you're constantly running out of stamina, pump a few points into willpower.
Really, I've just found it best to adjust as you go, just keep in mind those requirements, especially for strength and dex.
42 Strength for the top of the line sets of massive armor.
Anyone know of any good shields? I'm still using the Highever Shield from the Human Noble Origin. Heh.
The best shield I found and used to the end was from the Redcliffe quest line after doing the "good, save everybody" route.
Aw hell. Looks like I'm going back to Redcliffe. Good thing I'm level 10 and Morrigan has CoC/Sleep.
Best shield I've found so far is a shield I stole off of a dwarf in the dwarf city. It's base 4 Defense but the mod on it adds +12 Defense so it's pretty nice. Think it's called the Champion's Shield I believe the dwarf was in the Arena type place.

Any caster can be a passable healer with enough mana and the Spirit Healer spec. Spirit Healer is really the key, because Group Heal and Revive change the game.
I'm pretty sure that is just your achievement fraction. So if you have 800/1600 points, it'd be at 50%.
When I finished the game I got the achievement for "every area finished", which means I didn't miss any major things. I also have the "75% of all sidequests" achievement.
Due to the origins, and the deep playthrough achievements (level 20, all skills in a line etcet, different solutions for sidequests, all endings), 100% is a huge time investment. Probably not chasing that until some mods come out to change things up a bit. (That or liberal use of the "killall" console command to skip most trash mobs the second time round).
The game does shift fundamentally when you get a good healer. I dumped Morrigan like the bitch that she is and brought in Wynne - the difference in gameplay is night and day.

You don't need a tank either, but trying to heal with just single heal and the DoT heal, and ignoring Group Heal and Revive, would be as retarded as having no heavily armored character to absorb damage. If you're going to make a dedicated healer, not taking Spirit Healer is just dumb.
Kind of frustrated with party balance... can someone lend me a hand? Surely you dont have to change your party composition every damn fight on hard... do you?
Im going with warrior/warrior/mage/rogue(me) and no matter how i set up in fights, its always my mage who is left standing chugging healing potions and throwing spells at people. Did i completely screw up? I think we are definitely behind on the gear progression curve as my warriors are in heavy chain mail and im wearing normal chainmail (as a rogue, mistake?). It feels like im wearing gasoline soaked toilet paper as im more squishie than the mage with a 28 dex on my rogue! Is the rogue class really unplayable with daggers being garbage? Or do i need to cover my ass in plate? Thank you for any advice... im asking because even the 2 large bandit fights leaving up to redcliff (sp) left me with 1 woman standing
No need to spoiler party composition, but here's some advice :
You need to define a 'main tank' with sword and shield talents. Many have said that shield wall will make your life immensely easier. Grab Taunt to get the ranged foes on said tank. With shield wall on, your tank should take almost 0 damage from archers.
Your party is very melee-centric. That's not necessary a bad thing, but will requre A LOT of careful positioning on battles. This is essential. Place your 2nd warrior well enough for sweeps or dual strikes to be maximized. Your rogue needs to be backstabbing constantly or his damage is utter crap.
Finally your mage will almost be forced to dabble a bit into healing. And in CC (sleep, hexes, cone of cold). Otherwise your melees will almost always bite the dust.
Thank you very much for the advice. I already have a central tank with both talents you mentioned (the other gray warden slash Templar?). My problem comes from two possible sources.
1. Spell damage
2. Archers Focusing on Me (rogue)
3. Getting Swarmed.
I will try to see if i can grab some healing skills on my mage, but we are all level 7/8. As i said, i really fear i am behind on my gear progression.

The only time those two abilities are not enough (and pots are required) is when there's more than 6 enemies attacking my tank. Considering that group heal and revive don't change that, I'd say that no, its not comparable.
The difference between no healer and a healer is incredible, having no healer in a team is basically suicide.
The difference between a healer and a spirit healer is noticeable but not as pronounced. You can have a viable team without a spirit healer. Most damage will be focused on your tank, and constant tank healing is 90% of what your healer will be doing. You can deal with incidental damage using minor healing potions (or healing spells if your tank isn't getting clobbered), which the game basically forces down your throat.
I went through all of the Ozzramar chain with a single non-spirit healer (just one mage), I didn't run into any fights that proved too difficult to handle.

You don't need a healer either, at least on Normal. I only took Wynne through the mage tower. Since then, I've just been using poultices. They've gotten pretty thin at points, I had to run to get more before I tackled the last part of the Deep Roads, but I've survived.
